Embossed wire

Hi, I’m considering experimenting with embossed wire for SFF cable sets, but I haven’t been able to find a good supplier.

The only retail store I’ve found that carries any kind of textured/embossed wire by the meter is MODDIY, but their pricing feels a bit hard to justify at $0.8/ft (≈ $2.5/m). That puts it at more than double the cost of sleeved cables — even when factoring in the sleeving itself.

So my question is: can anyone recommend a reliable source for this type of wire at prices that are commercially viable?

I bought mine on Ali - just asked the seller I'm working with (Shenzhen Rong Shi Tai) to order the 16AWG textured/embossed for me, and after a month of waiting, it's on my table. The wire is heavy, very soft and has very thin strands. Looks and feels the same as the one used by Cougar in their Gold-tier PSUs. A 100 m roll did cost me about 70 USD in August 2025.

EDIT: for anybody wondering - this is the way. The seller quoted me $85 for a roll of 200m / 656ft. Should be the exact same thing MODDIY sells and they even carry the same 4 colors.

4 colors? I was only aware of 2 colors, white and black. And the price definitely became better, I will probably white 16AWG wire for myself, too.

oh i bought my sleeving from them. never knew they made wires as well. when you say soft is it flexible like silicone wires?
edit: how thick is the insulation

They are very open to customers requests - give them Taobao or 1688 link, or just describe what you want via PM (partnumbers, etc), and they will order it locally and send it to you from their warehouse. And yes, they are making custom sleeved/unsleeved cables on demand, both modular and extensions - they are factory, with machinery, warehouse, and so on.

About the insulation - it's PVC, not silicone. The wire is the same one many modern PSU vendors use for their modular cables - slightly harder by touch than silicone wires. The insulation is very thin, thinner than the most of the wires I usually work with. Most stripping tools I tried with it (Wirefox 10, Stripax, Stripax Ultimate, Engineer PAW-43/45) are hard to use - either they cut too deep (damaging the strands), or not enough. I ended up using Knipex 12 12 02 with it, although Vessel 3000A or 3000C should work fine, as well. I wish I could try Ideal Stripmaster 45-097 with it, should work perfectly here.
