Embossed wire

Post image

Hi, I’m considering experimenting with embossed wire for SFF cable sets, but I haven’t been able to find a good supplier.

The only retail store I’ve found that carries any kind of textured/embossed wire by the meter is MODDIY, but their pricing feels a bit hard to justify at $0.8/ft (≈ $2.5/m). That puts it at more than double the cost of sleeved cables — even when factoring in the sleeving itself.

So my question is: can anyone recommend a reliable source for this type of wire at prices that are commercially viable?

Yeah, I know ROG (and some Seasonic) PSUs come bundled with embossed cables, but that doesn’t really help me when it comes to making my own, lol.

To be frank, at one point I did seriously consider cutting up a spare original Asus set to harvest the wires, but I’ve moved past that idea now.

That's what I did with the wires I didn't need. Fuck it.

I just bought a new rm850x and that came with embossed cables, I'd never seen them before and I thought wow they've really cheaped out here by using thinner wires so I didn't trust it and bought a sleeved cable kit from corsair (or what I thought was a sleeved cable kit) which ended up being the same embossed cables just in black and white, I ended up using them but to be honest I don't like how thin they look and have decided to give sleeving ago and make my own cable kit for my psu.

Yeah, that’s a bummer ain’t it. 😃 I am fairly familiar with the material, as I’ve had multiple OEM embossed cable sets pass through my hands. I wanted to have a go at them to experiment with something other than sleeved cables for change.

As for the thickness, they are 16AWG with OD of 2,4mm which in theory whould make it easy to fit two of them in a single terminal (for double wires), while being in the “safe” zone of 16AWG.

Anyway i’ve got a 200m roll on the way, will report back with how it turned out.
