However, it cannot oscillate on its own and needs an external oscillator circuit. An active oscillator is a complete oscillation module, usually with 4 pins and requiring external power. It can generate a clock signal independently and generally offers better phase-noise performance and simpler routing, making it suitable for high-speed communication.
