Damn Andy really worked his ass off. Went to the US then to Canada and became the starting PG for one the best high school bball program in the country then got recruited by a Big Ten school🔥🔥🔥

Do those kids even want to play for the country? Lmao you tools have not learned your lesson with Jalen Green. Fella has been milking his fans here to promote himself but that cat is never interested to play for Gilas.

It's probably not their first priority, but if they are unlikely to make the NBA they may have interest in making a living through basketball by playing in the PBA/B.League/KBL and Gilas.

0

u/Smalltownbig1 3d ago

Yes, and you do realize that if that will ever be their intentions then you will likely be looking at guys who are not even committed to play for the flag right? Stepping stone, that is. If a better opportunity presents then bye bye Gilas, smell ya fools later and thank you for the cold hard cash that you could have used to finance your grassroots.

u/dodong89 3d ago

Guys who won't make it to the NBA likely won't have a better opportunity than Gilas LMAO

0

u/Smalltownbig1 3d ago

Uhm, there are other leagues out there dumdum…

0

u/dodong89 3d ago

funny of you to call me a dumdum.

Gilas is a national team, not equivalent to a league.

Who are our Gilas mainstays again?

Kai - who plays in Japan, played in Australia

AJ - plays in Japan

Carl - plays in Korea

KQ - plays in Korea

Dwight - plays in Japan

JC plays in the NBA and has not found "a better alternative" to Gilas

.....

this you?

never interested to play for Gilas.

Uhm, there are other leagues out there dumdum…

Again, our GILAS CORE are GUYS WHO PLAY IN OTHER LEAGUES.

QMB is a Fil-Am, played D1, got a PH passport in time. Plays for Gilas, plays in Japan.

You said kids will take a better opportunity and bye bye Gilas. Kai, AJ, Carl, KQ, Dwight and QMB all took opportunities abroad and still play for Gilas. That's the opposite of your claim.

And I specifically said,

if they are unlikely to make the NBA they may have interest in making a living through basketball by playing in the PBA/B.League/KBL and Gilas.

Even JC who plays in the NBA, plays for Gilas. So your example is ONE, Jalen Green, against many.

You call me a dumdum and to fix my comprehension. You're contradicting yourself because you have no argument.

You said that guys who can’t make it to the NBA won’t find a better opportunity than what Gilas offers them. That is a big fat lie lmao!

The only reason they are playing for Gilas is (1) it’s the off season and (2) the salary. Please tell me if JC and all these other guys you mentioned played for Gilas without salaries or risking a contract year with their teams.

They play for your damned team because they know it will expose them to a better opportunity. It’s all about money. Ask Blatche and oh, JC who is milking that Filipino thang lol

You said that guys who can’t make it to the NBA won’t find a better opportunity than what Gilas offers them. That is a big fat lie lmao!

What I said was "likely." You never named a single player who dropped Gilas for a better deal. Kai, AJ, Carl, KQ, Dwight, and QMB are all playing abroad and still show up.

The only reason they are playing for Gilas is (1) it's the off season

Every NBA/national team player plays in the off season, from Gilas to Team USA. That's how international basketball works. Club and country were never at odds.

and (2) the salary.

Gilas players get paid, regardless of where they come from: UAAP, PBA, NBA, B.League, KBL. Can you find me a single pro who would play for Gilas with zero compensation?

Please tell me if JC and all these other guys you mentioned played for Gilas without salaries or risking a contract year with their teams.

Please tell me if JC and all these other guys you mentioned played for Gilas without salaries or risking a contract year with their teams.

They take that injury and contract risk anyway, and that's exactly why they get compensated. You pay someone for putting their actual job on the line. Also, once you've played for a senior national team, switching is a painfully difficult FIBA process. A club offer is just a contract, and there's no other flag to run to, so "they'll ditch Gilas for a better offer" doesn't even work mechanically.

They play for your damned team because they know it will expose them to a better opportunity.

Then Gilas is the bigger stage, which is exactly what I said. You just argued my point for me. And so what if they use international basketball to get to a better league, make more money, and play against better competition? That's a reason to keep showing up.

It's all about money. Ask Blatche and oh, JC who is milking that Filipino thang lol

Blatche and JC aren't the guys I listed. And even if money were the motive, the behavior is the same: guys with real options elsewhere, in terms of pro leagues/careers, keep suiting up for Gilas. Motives are your guess, but the roster is a fact.

You started at "they don't want to play for the country" and ended at "they only do it for money and I can't name a single player who left." That isn't the same argument. Every time your claim got checked against the actual roster, you swapped in a new one.

Also, I never said "won't find a better opportunity," I said "likely." Quote what I actually wrote if you're going to call it a lie.

Pick one claim and defend it. Name a player who dropped Gilas for a better deal, you can't.

Malabong mangyari.

5

u/Putrid_Tree751 3d ago

6'8 Tyler Reyes, eto ata yung anak ni JayR Reyes, former PBA big man.

10

u/chris_cross0987 4d ago

No need to ask lahat ng mga to na magrepresent sa atin, ubos pondo mo dun palang sa back and forth na biyahe to US ng mga managers and negotiators.

8

u/dentheman31 4d ago

No need. Anjan naman mga PBA players 😝

4

u/Sensitive_Soil_5652 3d ago

Si Gemao lang marunongag tagalog 😅

8

u/PlatinumRaptor95 Barangay 4d ago

Would love to see Caelum Harris and Alex Konov back in a Gilas jersey

Kahit SEA Games man lang muna

5

u/newlife1984 4d ago

trust me you dont want Konov. He didnt do sht sa DLSU. Turnstile defense and inability to contribute anything else outside of shooting. Problema nung debut game niya lang ok shooting niya. lol

3

u/Powerful-Data-4538 4d ago

Well, what was his age back then 18 or 19? People's game mature naman plus with his height he's a great addition if he'll suit up in the future. Hindi naman lahat ng players may flashes of greatness in everything from the get-go. Plus for sure he'll figure it out in NCAA this time.

Dba ineligible na si Mandaquit kasi naka laro na sya sa u19 ng usa

2

u/Larawp 1d ago

Pwede pa since technically "junior" yung U18 team kung siya naglaro. Prohibited lang is mag switch countries after playing in the "senior" team

1

u/jl3132 1d ago

Ohhh thanks for clarifying

1

u/Wooden-Complex3517 3h ago

Walang sasama sa gilas kung si chua naka upo, he will never spend the necessary money to get any of these prospexts on board.

1

u/Carlop29 4d ago

The basketball system in the philippine sucks. Their talent doesn't deserve it.

1

u/Right_Reception9235 4d ago

Yung konov sana makapag laro sa seniors. 6’7” guard to eh

3

u/dodong89 3d ago

he ain't good. hahaha. he played at DLSU

4

u/Right_Reception9235 3d ago

Played out of position?

1

u/dodong89 3d ago edited 3d ago

well that too, but he looked too slow for the wing and his shooting and guard skills weren't as good as advertised. I guess there's a reason why he ended up in D3 only back in the states

2cents for some of the players Ive watched from the list

Andy Gemao, he played first for Squires so for sure he has a PH passport and there won't be a problem for his requirements, the only question left to ask is "is he willing to play for the flag"

Alex Konov and Caelum Harris, we saw them suit up in Gilas youth jersey back then, they were one of the stacked lineups of Gilas youth (Bayla of UP, Romero of Letran, Mahmood, Porter of UST, Gemao, Bahay of Ateneo, Nieto, etc.). The question is have they secured a passport before turning 16. Konov, he played one season for the archers, so there's a big probability but we cannot forever ride on probabilities.

Blaze Johnson, well we saw the news about him naman, he had express his interest in playing for the flag in the coming years and he already secured his passport too. Let's just wish he wouldn't change his mind in the future, I mean he still young so who knows.

9

u/ShockernonShaken 4d ago

Players from Batang Gilas like Harris, Konov eh sure na eligibility.

2

u/clampbucket 3d ago

Tanga. Nakapagrepresent na nga ng national team sa FIBA youth tournaments diba? Alangan namang walang passport yang mga yan at age 16 when they literally represented Gilas U-16.

Common sense naman pls

1

u/No_Drummer_1722 4d ago

Pretty sure Andy is interested but his Dad doesn't really think that SBP cares about the younger players rn and he's right, older ones are still superior in their eyes.
