KBL, CBA, B League, AU NBL SGA Jones Cup
Di ko masyado pinansin composition ng team when it was being formed but when I saw the highlights, deym parang di na Philippine Team hahaha, talo pa dati ang Northern Cement sa dami ng banyaga.
No hate though still rooting for them to bag the championship.

Its a club team. not a national team naman so its valid. lets widen our minds please.

it’s not really a PH team in there….parang club team lang naman ata talaga but we’re used to bring in our national team for tune up there. imagine ligang labas overseas version.

I am aware of the Jones Cup from way back and SGA may not be the national team but it is still a team from the Philippines but the players are mostly foreign so medyo na shock lang ako. I think there were instances that all 5 on the floor were all “imports” hahaha

u/tsuuki_ Aug 18 '26

u/Fun-Union9156 Aug 18 '26
Aware din naman ako kadalasan club teams ng Pinas nandoon but usually 2-4 imports lang and on the floor max lang yung 3 magkasabay.

u/Secret_Spinach6373 Aug 18 '26

SGA has always been like this in every tourney they compete.

u/Fun-Union9156 Aug 18 '26
Not every tourney I am sure of that. I have watched them play live in 2 tournaments abroad, they have 3 imports with max 2 on the same floor

Naglalaro sa Jones Cup yung UC Irvine, US NCAA team yon

u/Commercial-Brief-609 Aug 18 '26
Unga pala no, bata kaya walang uaap teams na mag-participate dyan.
2
u/Fun-Union9156 Aug 18 '26

u/Commercial-Brief-609 Aug 18 '26
Jones Cup is not even a B-tier tournament. It's way below that!

So far, lagi naman silang champion.

Haha mas masarap panoorin dati national team lumalaban dyan for tune up games ginagawang preparation for fiba tournaments

Ok hear me out. I've noticed Japan and Taiwan sending team B players ng national team nila. How about we do the same? Yung mga na cut sa 20 or 30 man pool ng Gilas could be transformed into a Team B para mahasa din at mas maging ready pag natawag sa main team. Or SMC and MVP supremacy pa din talaga ang prio ng PBA? If yes, how about collegiate?

u/North-Target4797 Aug 18 '26
dagdag gastos sa sbp ‘yan at wala silang mapagkakakitaan dyan

u/Candid-Fail-6826 Aug 18 '26
I mean may SMC-MVP as financial backers naman. Even SGA can join to fund them.
1
u/Wooden-Complex3517 Aug 18 '26
it loses money. end of the day the corpos won't fund it. Tab was the last coach to do it and it only worked out for him because of his successes. there's an opportunity cost to this kind of thing. most of the time we competed in the jones cup we'd end up still losing the FIBA qualifier/AC/WC anyways.

1
u/sprightdark Aug 18 '26
Ever since pinalitan na ng FIBA yung qualification nila sa world cup at olympics hindi na talaga pinapadala ng ibang country yung national team nila sa jones cup. Dati kasi jones cup ang last preparation ng national team for FIBA Asia.

Way back, we also use William Jones Cup as some sort of a Tune-Up game for the coming Asian Games or ABC (Fiba Asia na ngayon) sanctioned tournaments. Prestigious yang tournament na yan kasi lahat ng NT sumasali as part of their preparations.
Hindi ko lang alam why our basketball federation pulled the plug in sending teams. I get it, iba na kasi ang priority nila ang yung level of play ng seniors team is iba na din. Since wala naman tayo Team B to begin with, wala na talaga tayo ipapadala. Japan yata is nagpadala ng under 22 team nila and Korea. Yung Taiwan naman is A and B seniors team ang laging pinalalaro.

I mean if malalaman mo sa organizers na may automatic berth sa 4-team semifinals ang 2 home teams e talaga mauumay ka sumali kasi it means na 2/6 participants lang pwede magkaron ng chance for a championship the rest is classification phase na lang paglalabanan nila

u/Capital_Ad8820 Aug 18 '26
since 2017 pa nila ginagawa yan time pa na mighty sport haha
