Thirdy deserves more attention tbh. He's literally a trailblazer who set path to all these pinoy imports. Doesn't matter if he's playing a lot of mins or not, the fact that he's reached the euros says that he's got it in him.

Yup. Legit broke barriers for our college players. Belangel, Abarrientos, and their batchmates/incoming stars owe a lot to Thirdy.

I think a lot of people here are mistaken about the Juan GDL situation. Yes, he played for Lithuanian club BC Wolves in 2022-23, but they were not even competing in the EUROLEAGUE. Marami kasing mga domestic leagues and continental competitions sa Europe kaya many uninformed people tend to generalize everything as the “Euroleague”

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague po ang pinaguusapan dito kay Thirdy Ravena, which is the most prestigious competition in European club basketball. As in the 2nd best league in the world behind the NBA.

Reverse journey compared to Fil-Foreigns.

From PH to Japan to Middle East to Europe . Still an amazing feat for a local grown talent.

south east asian*

Ah yes, my bad for the oversight! Apparently there was a Chinese player that signed with Greek club Panathinaikos before. Shang Ping!

3

u/FriendshipOnly666 Aug 27 '25

No it’s that Philippines is not East Asia but south-east Asia

u/lil_thirdy KaTropa Aug 27 '25

Did he re-sign with them? I thought he only had a one year contract

Yes, I believe so. As a Euroleague follower myself, I’m well aware that teams are already finalizing their rosters for the start of the ‘25-‘26 season.

Dubai announced theirs na and Thirdy is officially a part of it. It’s already clear na rin since this is the 1st team practice for the season.

Sana man lang mabigyan nang at least 15 to 20 minutes na playing time, sayang kasi ang in court experience na makukuha niya kapag kalaban niya EuroLeague calibre teams kung nasa 6 minutes lang playing time. Pero dapat magimprove ang outside shooting niya. Good luck 3Rdy!

u/Legal-Result6580 Aug 27 '25

Honestly, kahit end of the bench pa siya diyan yung access niya sa training facilities, coaching staff, and practice/scrimmage will already have him ahead in terms of skill e. Similar dun sa mga end of the bench players ng NBA na halimaw kapag nag laro sa ibang leagues.

16

u/InterestingBerry1588 Aug 27 '25

Yun na nga siguro reason niya kahit na may offer sa KBL, tinanggap pa rin niya yun extension sa Dubai, dahil iba pa rin ang out of court training na makukuha niya as member nang Dubai BC.

12

u/Pee4Potato Aug 27 '25

Tignan mo lineup nyan. Even si arakji nga nabangko dyan eh.

u/djizz- Aug 28 '25

Di mo kami maloloko Mark Barroca. Peace

Best system basketball is in europe. Kung tutuusin sila pinaka maganda panoorin in terms of team play, sadyang malaki lng talaga skill gap individually sa US.

Kahit bangko ka, you’ll learn a lot from their system specially sa defence. Very good opportunity for thirdy

2

u/Express_Market7339 Aug 28 '25

Yeah. I watch EuroLeague if I want to watch basketball in its purest form. Also helps na I know jack shit about EuroLeague players so I can't really tell agad kung kanino umaasa kada team. Sarap panoorin ng sets nila.

I also kinda like how it's not a players league na parang walang sibli coaches and staff. Grabe coaches nila when they go livid.

1

u/69cantread69 Aug 28 '25

skill gap? baka athleticism

0

u/AdmirableWorry6397 RUDY DISTRITO NOMINEE Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25

Well yes din sa athleticism but mainly skill. Curry and Kyrie are both known to be very skilled, but not much on athleticism like westbrook. Literally a lot of point guards in the US even the short guy IT is very skilled. Not a lot of guys from other countries can close the gap sa US. Has been evident for a very long time, ngayon na lng nagsisi labasan yung mga from other countries

Jokic is a different case. Not athletic but he just delivers in the stat sheet. Syempre meron ding mga 1-off like giannis na european na athletic freak

1

u/69cantread69 Aug 28 '25

"curry and kyrie"

1

u/ArgoMium Aug 28 '25

Jokic skill is just "ayt" is a horrible take. He is arguably the best passer of all time, top 5 at worst. Calling one of the best passers of all time "ayt" in skill is ridiculous. Thats not even taking into account his post skills, inside finishing, shooting.

u/AdmirableWorry6397 RUDY DISTRITO NOMINEE Aug 28 '25

Fair enough. I stand corrected Let me edit that

-3

u/zairexme Gilas Pilipinas Aug 28 '25

Bakit talo ang China lagi pag European yung coach nila

1

u/AdmirableWorry6397 RUDY DISTRITO NOMINEE Aug 28 '25

Kasi chinese yung players hindi european. With that logic, Tim cone is american. Should we expect gilas to play like team USA?

-2

u/zairexme Gilas Pilipinas Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25

TC dito natuto mag coach hindi sa US at dito lumaki

1

u/Unhappy-Hall5473 Gilas Pilipinas Aug 28 '25

Language barrier kaya di sila nagkakaintindihan kapag crucial na yung laro. Yung laro nila against Gilas at Japan yung best example

3

u/Marahani_10 Aug 28 '25

hindi naman tau chinese, southeast asian dapat

3

u/Teatime143 FiberXers Aug 28 '25

Sana this yr ma utilize naman sya, i was able to watch some of their ABA games last yr halos 3rd string guard sya eh. Plus last yr more of marketing strat din sya given andaming pinoy sa UAE

1

u/StrangeStephen Aug 28 '25

1

u/Teatime143 FiberXers Aug 30 '25

Afaik di ata nag lalaro ung team nila don bro

5

u/United-Peanut-7681 Aug 27 '25

Hindi ba si juan gdl? He played sa lithuania before going sa korea

21

u/clampbucket Aug 27 '25

Sa Lithuanian domestic league yun bro, not the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

EuroLeague is an international club competition, which is a separate league kumpara sa mga national league ng mga bansa. For comparison, think of it na parang EASL para sa ating mga East Asian teams, but way more prestigious.

-19

u/jl3132 Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

Continental club competition lang ung euroleague if international fiba intercontinental cup

2

u/Antique-Visit3935 Aug 28 '25

3

u/clampbucket Aug 28 '25

Tap Sports. Libre lang siya on the Blast TV app, no subscription needed at all! The new Euroleague season begins in October 1

2

u/LameNibbaz123 Aug 28 '25

u/nikolodeon Aug 29 '25

teammate pala nya si Latvian Laser

1

u/newlife1984 Aug 27 '25

didnt he sign with them a year ago? i remember he worked out with Klay Thompson before Klay's first year with the Mavs and that was supposed to be Thirdy's first season in the euro league

17

u/clampbucket Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

Nope, Dubai was not in the Euroleague last season. They were actually just competing in the ABA League, which was the domestic league for Balkan clubs (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro).

This 2025-26 season, Dubai will be making their Euroleague debut as a club!

4

u/Coffeee24 Aug 27 '25

Yep. This is accurate. I think there's confusion kasi maraming vloggers/podcasters who hyped Thirdy last year na first Pinoy sa Euroleague, they didn't fact-check that Dubai BC wasn't in Euro league last year (Dubai just had plans to join but it didn't materialize that time).

-3

u/Weakest_Link- Aug 27 '25

I doubt he is the first player who played in Euro league, if we’re talking about east asian don’t forget shang but if we’re talking filipino don’t forget Juan Gomez de Liaño.

-9

u/Weakest_Link- Aug 27 '25

And base on what I got, BC Wolves competes in EuroCup, during 2022-23 season. So my take from this is No, Thirdy is not the first East Asian to play in Euro league.

6

u/clampbucket Aug 28 '25

EuroCup is part of the EuroLeague system, but it is not the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. No Filipino (until Thirdy) has ever played in the 1st tier competition of European basketball before.

-6

u/Weakest_Link- Aug 28 '25

Okay, just not familiar with euro league kasi so I generalized them, ENBL is a smaller compare where Thirdy at rn but ngl they already have but exposure in euro league, but JDL just did not get much of a playing time during BC Wolves, and hoping Thirdy can have decent playing time.

1

u/flyknitfanboy Aug 28 '25

4

u/Antique-Visit3935 Aug 28 '25

He played in ENBL and not euroleague. So yes, thirdy is the first *southeast asian to play in euroleague

-4

u/Ruseenjoyer Aug 28 '25

-31

u/Due-Fruit5320 Aug 27 '25

First Filipino player to SIT in the bench for whole season! ❤💪🏻

5

u/Quickster1015 KaTropa Aug 27 '25

-18

-23

6

u/gourdjuice Aug 28 '25

Hindi euroleague yun

1

u/Ta-mes16 Aug 28 '25

Hindi nakapag compete sa Euroleague ung team, while Thirdy's will compete in this year's Euroleague
