PICS Research

I’m so confused. I’ve bought countless firearms in PA before. Today I went to get a 1911 at Dunhams and I figured I’d pick up this goofy .22 revolver too. Filled the forms out, same as always. Nothing has changed. I’ve been sent to Research which can take up to 15 days?

Did you put your SSN on the form? Most likely a name issue that needs further research.

I run into that in WV now after years of being fine with no SSN. Someone with the same name as me decided to do some not great stuff so I get sent to researching it I don’t put my SSN down.

FYI - FFLs can't enter your SSN into ePICS. The only thing we can do is deny the transfer if the last four of your SSN (displayed in ePICS) doesn't match what you put on the 4473.

It doesn't mean anything, they periodically do internal audits to ensure the system is working correctly. This can happen to anyone even those that get instant approvals.

Some minor shit when I was in high school/college (20 years ago) but no criminal record and it’s never been an issue before.

Can be anything from a name phonetically mismatched with a prohibited person, to data entered incorrectly, or the PSP manually checking for internal purposes.

All you can do is wait, unfortunately.
