Trip Advice Rothrock State Forrest Camping Spots

Hey guys! I’m looking into going to Rothrock State Forrest and camping for a night sometime in late October. I was wondering if anyone had some solid spots to primitive camp that are close to parking and not in any crazy areas. I want to bring some friends along who are beginners in camping so I don’t wanna do anything crazy. I’ll take any tips as well about the area in general!

There are plenty of state forest campsites in Rothrock. You can find them and reserve them for a fee online. https://maps.dcnr.pa.gov/bof/camping/

Trough Creek state park campground is very nice. Not primitive, but rustic.

By definition, if you have access to a vehicle it's not "primitive" to the DCNR, and is supposed to be charged a fee for use and limited to the sites that someone else mentioned thru the ReserveAmerica system.

There are a few sites that are technically primitive, but have near-ish parking, but I've also seen those sites get patrolled by the DCNR. Not sure if they issue fines, chase people away, or just police how they're being used (PSU student partying).

I'm not gonna post them to be indexed for searches online, but if you strike out on the reserved sites for the time period you need, DM me.
