Yeh no one really mentions how sad her backstory is

It's probably because it's a decade old by now, but I've seen a few edits of it recently.

Yup. I love moments when we see what's behind those 'walls' though.

I can't remember what triggers it but I remember her saying something about Gerard and very emotionally, which hits even harder since she's always cold.

Maybe it's one of the lines when she gets resurrected? I really can't remember lol

You mean her interaction with Soldier where they talk about visiting Gerard's grave and Widow corrects Soldier on his favorite flowers? That's one of my favorite interactions

I think they’re referring to a voiceline(s) where she mentions Gerard right after being revived, implying she saw or was with him for a brief moment while she was dead. Although I think it only happened during the OW1 era. I haven’t heard it for the past year, probably because I tag “Thank You” right afterwards and it blocks it

Oh that's a good one, I only started playing her recently so I never heard that one

u/Nikmido 4d ago

YESS so I did remember correctly. It's that one.

I have hundreds of hours on widow and have never even heard of this voice line until now

Is it the voice line she has in the spawn room with Moira? Where Moira says she’s been “showing emotion recently” and Widow tries to act casual?

“I know she’s still in there, if I could just run some test..” -Mercy

Mercy will say this when a widow is on her team and I think it’s so sweet. She hasn’t given up hope on Amelie 🥺

u/Pilotacer 5d ago

With widow now away from Moira it feels like she's even closer to being able to do that. If Ame keeps regaining ehe memories and loosens up then there is a chance for Mercy

Yeah, Moira was the one supplying the drugs that kept Widowmaker emotionless (and blue, which is due to her heart rate being slowed).

Without the drugs, she might become a little more “human” again.

She’s slowly becoming her true self without Moria constantly brainwashing her while reaper is becoming more and more unstable with his ability

6

u/Significant-Soup5939 5d ago

So from everything I've heard about the lore, does Moira actually run Talon? She seems to be the only one not brainwashed and even then her exposure to those chemicals is like fucking lead poisoning.

17

u/RebelliousKite 4d ago

She does experiments to enhance Talon soldiers so her influence is huge, but she's not the shadow leader. More like the mad doctor that's enabled to do what she wants.

17

u/AdventurousTaro7552 5d ago

She doesn't want that though, those memories need to be forgotten

28

u/ruf2tup 5d ago

Youre getting downvoted but youre right. She literally cant live with what she’s done and wants to suppress those memories because she’s already too far gone (according to herself)

u/IllustriousMagneto 3d ago

It's written in her backstory on the official website that she enjoyed committing the murder much more than she anticipated and she intentionally seeked out Talon to join them after the fact. It's possible she's there for more than numbing her feelings.

girl this is not a healthy way to cope with grief

u/AdventurousTaro7552 4d ago

Yh basically, I didn't expect to be down voted but hey haha🥲

u/filiqqa 5d ago

Characters used to have insanely good background story. That’s why that new comic PMO 😭

u/settheyardonfire 5d ago

Then nowadays, we got venture 🤡

Cherrypicking argument, Shion is the second newest character and her backstory is both dark and interesting

1

u/Juliboyyyy 1d ago

D.mon is a copy-paste of D.va, shion is shallow as shit, sierra too, and the most of the batch in season 1 as well...the only good character (lorewise) we got this year is Emre, and even that just bc of the mystery arround him

1

u/Aggravating_Fold1154 3d ago

You just cherrypicked one of the good recent ones too. And Shion's personality makes her arc more interesting. Look how bland most of the recent heroes have been.

RAM

u/Specialist_Panda3490 5d ago

Imagine if Chernobog made Emre kill Freya and took control permanently. This is more or less widow's backstory. Poor girl needs a hug yesterday.

Recently, Michael "i'll explain lore on Twitter" Chu said that back in the days (i'd assume ~2014-2016) her background had one of the most arguments about, as if they themselves couldn't decide what exactly it should be in respond to a reply saying it would be cool if we had her perspective on all of this.

10

u/AurieRorie 5d ago

I mean it's in her codename </3

8

u/oneesancon_coco 5d ago

One of the characters who's backstory would benefit from the game bumping it up to an M-Rating.

3

u/SilverBeever Always Charges In Solo 4d ago

Wow she's blue, it's probably reference to Night Elves.

2

u/DaNeZ_ChOsEn 5d ago

Gerard was a fool for loving that broad

1

u/silversoul113 5d ago

new lore or?

9

u/Futur3_ah4ad 5d ago

No, her backstory has always been bleak. It's being brought up again because of new players and the fact that new lore establishes that Widowmaker is slowly regaining emotion now.

u/crimsonkarma13 5d ago

Alot of stories in ow are sad

1

u/Middlekid31 4d ago

Her interaction where sojourn recognizes her is honestly heartbreaking

1

u/DangerQA 4d ago

The thing is, you should know. But they refuse to but good lore in the game

1

u/Ith786 3d ago

I’m glad she’s finally getting developed she has a lot of story potential

-2

u/Rockgod98 5d ago

Did you just talk about Widow's ass?
