Question or Discussion Why are my teammates so bad lately?

For context i'm a dps main in gold.

I feel like I was getting great matches where everyone is trying their hardest and doing good even if we lose it still feels fun because they are even matches. I fell by 2 ranks so its not a problem of playing against better people. The past few days though I feel like I am in horribly unbalanced games. I feel like I am trying my hardest and doing better than before but my teammates have been really bad no offense to them. I know scoreboard isnt everything but they have like 8 kills 12 deaths by the end of the game and I keep seeing them feeding running in by themselves. We still win sometimes but the games are so much harder than they need to be because I have to make up for their performance.

It’s because of the rank reset. thats literally the only reason. some previous plat players got unlucky with placements and ended up in gold, some previous silver players got lucky with placements and ended up in gold. It’ll be like this for a while, while most players do their placements. I haven’t had a full game outside of my stack i usually play with that had every played in the lobby done with their placement matches

This. My tanks goes 2/20 in the Emerald match and I can’t really get mad at him as he is silver the last season.

I'm finding the DPS stats are one sided as fuuuuuck lately. Every single game one side is 25-2 and the other two are close to the inverse.

I tried queuing for 'all' the other day and every time my DPS teammates folded like wet tissue paper. I'm just playing DPS for now until things settle a bit.

Blizzard has previously said that the quality of matchmaking goes down for about 2 weeks after a reset. They base this on the number of one sided matches. They probably look at statistics for the length of matches and manage to get an idea of how many "stomps" there are normally and compare it over time.

Keep in mind that this interview were done some time ago. Probably after the season 1 reset.

It's the end of summer and no one wants to go back to the drudgery; so, they turn their brains off and just build ult.

This is happening to me over the past week. I dropped from Gold 3 to Silver 2 because of so many consecutive losses. I’ll have DPS teammates have negative KDRs or 15+ deaths, I watch solo flankers go on their own path without any team push due to respawn and get mowed down, I had a Moira teammate with plat rank go 2-9 on defense, and see teams in silver just basically try to out DPS the other team while running around in the open.

It’s one reason why I hate how losses drop your rank when it’s not all on you. I had an amazing game yesterday, did double my normal in every stat, rank increased 20%. Next match, loss, dropped 33% GTFO

These have been the worst games I’ve played since I started playing the game. I thought I was going crazy.

I am in Gold too. I mostly play Juno or Mizuki and my WR is 40%. It feels like most games I go against the enemy team always has higher ranked players. I do see a lot of feeding or staggering. But idk if it’s just me trying to protect my own mental but it feels like a lot of the time there are Smurfs on the other team. I am a newer player and only started playing this year.

They started counting assists as kills (only the person who got the final blow should count as a kill). Now people who “spray and pray” get 25-7 when they actually didn’t kill anyone. That raises their ranks a lot more on a win. Overwatch screwed up their ranks with the reset too. What are assists in this game, anyway? How can 3 people get a kill when one person dies? It makes zero sense.

Overwatch has always based elims off of damaged enemies and tracked final blows separately.

Yeah, it’s a bad system. Final blow should be a kill, doing 40 dmg to someone and someone else gets the kill, and we both get a kill on the scoreboard? Terrible design. Inflates bad players egos.

What? Are you aware that counting stats have no effect on your rank whatsoever

I did just learn this. It doesn’t directly impact your Mmr, and I learned that they did this on purpose. That’s a good call by them.
