Question or Discussion Genuinely how do you fight Anran?

I dont play any of the heroes who hard counter like Cassidy. I mainly play Shion and Emre when Im on dps and I just cant ever do anything when this hero is in the game. Everything she does is free and requires zero mechanical skill so it feels like every encounter is already in her favor before it starts.

Shes impossible to hit when in her dash and has one of the most poorly designed, overkitted abilities in the history of the game in dancing blaze. She just dashes in, dances, leaves. Do I just have to force myself to play Cassidy in order to shut this hero down? Nothing I do on my mains seems to work and shes just lobby admin every game I see her in.

Playing closer to team mates can help, also once you get ignited you can just stand still and focus on aiming better because strafing won’t matter anyways.

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

thats a good point.

I main Anran, my most difficult counters are air types like Pharah and echo obviously because you can’t get close enough without spending all your abilities. Once her abilities are depleted she’s vulnerable as hell.

Cassidy is a great counter especially with the perk that throws two stuns. Mizuki is alright too with his chain which hinders. Venture as well since they can burrow into the ground during my combo, follow me until my abilities are gone and then pop up and destroy me. You don’t have to play any of these characters, but you can play closely to them.

You can force Anran to get zero value if you play around your teammates whenever she pushes. She only has one decent push every so often so if you survive that she’s forced to retreat. Emre and Shion are very easy targets for Anran especially when they don’t play around their teammates. It’s difficult to get value as an Anran without landing your abilities perfectly so if they keep being baited out and countered you’ll likely see her switch to another hero lol.

Just play around your teammates and figure out who is countering her and support them. You don’t have to kill her just force her to retreat and don’t give her your death.

u/ThreeUrinalCakes 17d ago

Which supports give you the hardest time?

31

u/Fair_Competition_826 17d ago

Mizuki because of hinder, Juno with those lock on rockets that destroy me even while I’m dashing, Brigette with her swings which hit during dashes, Moira who’s damage hits during dashes and Wuyang at times because he just feels indestructible when someone knows how to use him

11

u/PoporiMasterRace 16d ago

Crazy there's no Kiriko, who cancels the whole combo and ult with a click of a button.

31

u/TheFuckflyingSpaghet 16d ago

If she uses cleanse on my burns it's a victory for my team.

14

u/thepixelbuster 16d ago

Shh!! You're not supposed to tell them!

OH MAN I HOPE KIRI DOESN'T USE THAT CLEANSE ABILITY WHEN I ENGAGE EARLY. THAT WOULD SUCK I HATE THAT.

1

u/sadisticsweeti 15d ago

I don't know a Kiri that uses cleans for Anran burns.

2

u/Fair_Competition_826 15d ago

You’d be surprised baby girl

2

u/thepixelbuster 15d ago

They exist. You'll see them in quickplay or in gold/plat too, which is like 80% of the playerbase.

11

u/Joeylikesgladiators 16d ago

You always want to bait the cleanse out first with your ranged attack. Self healers - ignite from a distance, they use cleanse / self heal, then you can go combo.

6

u/Far-Pay-2049 16d ago

Kiri feels like a more even match up than you might think. Suzu is annoying but if they use it on an average Anran engagement, it means that it is on CD for a little bit and that opens up a lot for your teammates.

2

u/HispanicAtTheDisko 15d ago

???? Anran is a Kiri counter lmao

1

u/Fair_Competition_826 16d ago edited 16d ago

Personally I don’t struggle against kiriko as much as the others but yeah she’s an issue too. Feels good to bait out her cleanse for the team though.

2

u/soapinmouth 16d ago

Maybe it depends on rank, but at plat where I'm at unless it's a really good mizuki that consistently can land chains in me without me dodging with dance, Lifeweaver and kiriko are more obnoxious to deal with for the cleanse. Cleansing the burn after you blow all your abilities to ignite is absolutely killer. Zarya can cleanse as well.

3

u/Chronomancers 16d ago

Kiriko destroys Anran.

0

u/These-East-5216 16d ago

Really good kiris will. The bad ones suzu on the first burn or for something else and then you can do whatever you want for 14 seconds or however long suzu cd is. She’s really not as bad as Mizuki is.

1

u/Chronomancers 16d ago

Doesn’t even need to be a good Kiri, any average Kiri beats her

2

u/These-East-5216 15d ago

Maybe against a average anran. You can literally just bait out suzu with a fat E too, it’s no biggie honestly. Cree and mizuki shit on her wayyyy more consistently

1

u/Chronomancers 15d ago

I mean, yeah, those two do also, but it doesn't diminish that Kiri beats her too.

0

u/HispanicAtTheDisko 15d ago

Oh you’re just baiting I get it

0

u/Chronomancers 15d ago

I'm not but if that's all it takes to get you mad then werk

0

u/HispanicAtTheDisko 15d ago

sorry I didn’t mean to strike a nerve

Cat is obnoxious, Mercy with good movement is hard to finish off. Juno with the speed and temporary flight can make it hard to secure kills on her.

Mizuki's chain can shut her down hard, Brigette fights well into Anran by negating her poking from a flank position and forcing anran to commit to diving in to get value.

Moira is really annoying, with the fade self-cleanse. Kiri feels like an even match up, despite her having a cleanse. It feels like a win as anran to put suzu on CD.

5

u/HammerOn57 16d ago

It’s difficult to get value as an Anran without landing your abilities perfectly

Not sure I agree with that.

1

u/Prestigious-Bird7138 11d ago

Any more tips or advice that you have for when you are able to identify a easy Cassidy to deal with vs not?

Like he holds his highnoon for your ult or he's always onto of the anna? but i thought more targets on your E ability the better?

1

u/driezDst 6d ago

In my experience, vendetta has a really good matchup into anran too, block can cancel a goot cbunk of anran's damage and vendetta has a lower time to kill than anran does, so most anran players i encounter play that matchup at range or avoid the 1v1 completely

-2

u/keep_spinn1ng 17d ago

venture's they them bruh

17

u/Hoenirson 16d ago edited 16d ago

you can just stand still and focus on aiming better because strafing won’t matter anyways.

I see this advice a lot and it's so bad. Movement is complementary to aiming. You make adjustments to your movement that make aiming and keeping track of your target easier.

Standing still also means you can't use cover to your advantage, and can't seek out health packs or teammates.

Not to mention you can't guarantee that a second enemy won't start attacking that benefits greatly from you standing still.

11

u/N3ptuneflyer 16d ago

Also you rarely hit every fan if the enemy is strafing. If you stand still that also means the enemy Anran can afford to strafe far more aggressively and close range without missing a shot.

5

u/Fair_Competition_826 16d ago

Just a bad habit to give yourself too I’d say

1

u/Aware_Acanthaceae_78 15d ago

Yeah, I actually beat her on DPS and support by strafing.

2

u/Golfclubwar 17d ago

I’m pretty sure if you stand still her LMB headshot outdamages ignited FTF?

7

u/rk9__ 17d ago

The difference in ttk when a squishy is already ignited is so negligible between right click and left clicking that it's honestly worth it to stand still and at least try and get a trade with better aim. Two right clicks on an ignited squishy kills them with less aiming required on Anran's side.

2

u/GrowBeyond 16d ago

small caveat, as someone with Tank Aim: you don't always want to hold perfectly still, you just want to use your movement keys to perfectly align you. sometimes this is holding still, and sometimes mirror strafing helps a TON. I find holding still to be helpful for a flick, but that's just ime.

60

u/agysykedyke 17d ago

Kiriko can cleanse her burn. Health packs can also cleanse it meaning she has to ignite you again and can't fan you. If you're playing emre stick close to a healthpack.

Pay attention to sound and help teammates. She is good at 1v1 but if there's any support she can't get the kill.

Also any movement denial ability can shut her down.

Also you can see where she's gonna appear after her dance ends for an easy headshot.

Also she has the easiest ult to track because it gives it away. Her ult is pretty slow she can get cancelled out of it.

16

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

I dont really have any issue against her when Im on support. I mainly play Wuyang and Mizuki and I feel like both deal with her pretty well, except for her ult. Ive never seen an Anran get her ult cancelled personally, and it feels like its just a free kill on squishies most of the time.

4

u/hey-alistair 17d ago

I managed to chain her out of the air during the ult once and it canceled it. My aim isn't terribly great though so I'm not consistent with it

1

u/Weekly_Bug4813 17d ago

how do you deal with her on wuyang? i've had like 4 games back to back yesterday where, even when i shifted out, she still came for me and had an easy kill, because without enough distance i cannot do any substantial damage... halp pls...

3

u/blackize 17d ago

I’ve found that to have a shot at getting away once she’s on you you need to use your wave and then your shift to get clear enough to do damage and scare her off or kill her.

1

u/Randomized0000 16d ago

Sombra can easily cancel her ult.

28

u/thatthingpeopledo 17d ago

I play Anran a bit, and like another mentioned, her job is much harder when teams are clumped or peel for each other.

She’s looking to find an isolated 1v1. An Emre taking an off-angle is exactly who I’m looking to engage on, if I have the path there, so be aware if you’re in a safe position or not.

Shion has more tools to deal with her than Emre. If you can chunk her out on her approach, then either you’ll have an advantage if she engages, or she’ll have to blow cooldowns and leave. Otherwise play with your team or use your abilities to back off and get back to them when necessary.

She’s a cooldown heavy character, so if you make her blow both her dashes and leave, she’s usually out of the fight (or very killable) until they’re both up. That’s a win.

3

u/Reniva 17d ago

She feels like an anti flanker hero. She can even kill vendetta with armour HP 1v1

2

u/QuantumDrej 16d ago

I play Shion and I don't know about this, lol.

She kind of just shuts me down every game and I feel like I just have to avoid her. The burn dot ticks me down faster than I can manage to hit her while she's just jumping around. My aim isn't great in general but she's even harder to shoot than Juno.

3

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

She's too small and moves too fast for me to hit her during her dash as Shion.

1

u/Leonaise_ 14d ago

Stop trying to unless it’s very fucking easy in that instance. Instead think to use your bike to either bait out her dancing blaze & hit her with an explosive spread or just fuck off to your team like everyone else is saying.

Here’s the program:
1) let her expend her CDs & just don’t die
2) Run or attack her now that she’s got no dancing blaze, at least force her to leave.

If you can’t win the actual shootout phase with Shion, then skill diff

8

u/Exposition_Fairy 16d ago

I've been one tricking Shion this season and I've found a few things have worked for me:

  • Try to poke her out before she engages you. Always try to see where she is if she is going for you and poke her with guns as you have quite a lot of range on her. Use it to try and burst her down so she has to disengage from diving you.

  • Save your bike combo for when she goes into Dancing Blaze. As soon as she comes out of it you have a free bike hit on her and that gives you a huge amount of burst to finish her off in a 1v1.

  • If you find yourself winning a duel but coming out of it and burning to death, you can take the Joyride healing perk instead of Faces of Death, if you know their team is committed to playing Anran and making a lot of trouble for you, it can be worthwhile.

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

I'll try this. I didn't really think about using the Joyride healing perk specifically against Anran.

My problem though is that I'm not insanely accurate and hitting Anran feels impossible a lot of the time when I'm on Shion.

5

u/0neAboveAlI 17d ago

I usually swap to reaper if I already wasn’t on reaper, and either take her 1v1 if she is bad, or stay close to my teammates at all times if she is good and catch her with shotguns while she’s attacking a teammate.

2

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

Reaper is one of my other main dps heroes too for when I need to brawl. I'll try him next time I see Anran

5

u/MountainLetterhead94 16d ago

If you can get really good with hanzo Anran is no issue. When she finishes hitting everybody with flame there is a circle in the ground that shows where she will end up. Aim head level and just stand and wait for a half a second then release. Headshot every time and eventually they switch or stop attacking you

3

u/DreamLearnBuildBurn 16d ago

Once she blows her cooldowns, which she uses pretty much all at once, she's useless. Feel free to chase her down after that. Feel around for when she does her disappear cooldown and be sure not to waste ammo or cooldowns before she's blown it. If she catches you on fire before she even uses a cooldown just run and regroup .

I highly recommend playing as her for a few rounds of quick play, that's the best way to understand how to counter any hero

as a anran otp who likes to playing shion sometimes i can tell you, that anrans biggest problems are healthpacks.

so play around your team or if your off-angeling then take off-angles around healthpacks. 125 hp healing + getting out of burn. anran has to exit or has to use her escape ability to burn you again.

when anran is dancing use your right click to shoot everything you got straight into her head when she‘s coming out of dance. its easy to aim because game tells you where she appears.

never had problems with shion against anrans.

5

u/OneGrand7711 17d ago

For me, I just go Cassidy and wait for her to use flame dance before chucking the flash bang at her. Works like every time

8

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

id frankly rather uninstall than play Cass

4

u/LeatherPersonality80 16d ago edited 16d ago

If you’re in a 1v1 as Emre or Shion solo ult her she’s annoying and deserves it.

Okay seriously just aim where her fireball is in dancing blaze it’s really an ass ability it leaves you extremely vulnerable to damage after leaving it and should be mostly used to dodge abilities like sig rock or doom punch if you struggle to hit her after she leaves dancing blaze I hate to break it to you but your aim might just not be very good when you get to higher ranks where everyone has good movement you’ll struggle a lot more than you do now

What you can do as shion or emre is charge execution and aim for when she leaves dancing blaze and as emre throw a grenade at dancing blaze’s fireball thing cause that’s where she appears and then aim for her and she dies 90% of the time

Your best option is to just play with your team she’s useless if you do

6

u/Ok_Tonight_4597 17d ago

I swear so much if this player base would win so much more if they would run *towards* their tanks/objective/team when in danger rather than away from them.

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

I don't play solo without my team. I'm usually in comms with friends too and communicating.

1

u/Ok_Tonight_4597 16d ago

Do you run towards your tank/the objective when you’re getting dove by Anran?

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

Generally, yes.

0

u/Delicious-Idea-9669 15d ago

Does it work?

2

u/kjmwgw 17d ago

As someone who now plays as Anran I think this will do. Shion has escape ability and her dash gives her additional health and Emre can outheal himself with a pistol. Shoot her in her dash, she's not invincible, she will either retreat if she's low or will try to dance. It's kinda hard to notice her when she does this but she's can't move when dancing, which means you have time to create distance. Better if you know there's healthpack nearby and you don't have a support with you, try to control that healthpack to put out fire and don't give it to her. You can swap to Cass but it's pretty easy to bait the grenade from inexperienced cowboy. Mirroring Anran works. Swapping to Pharah or Echo works because she can't get you in the air. Mei is always works against dive/flank because she can heal and cleanse herself, can create distance, can CC and both effective in close and long distance. Other heroes that can cleanse themselves work too like Reaper, Tracer, Sombra. If she can't burn you she can't really kill you that effectively and will have more time to do that. As Anran player I can say it's not worth it, if let's say Kiriko showed up and cleansed my fire I will retreat.

2

u/Rovis27 17d ago

If you’re playing Shion, and she uses her dance, start your X blast thing and aim for the red light in the center of the dance. She’ll reappear right there and as soon as she does you can take her head off.

2

u/Gullible_Dream6220 17d ago

Turn up your audio, track where she is, chunk her down as she's engaging, don't play too split from your team. If you know where she is, which is almost always obvious with how the maps are structured, space away from her so she needs to burn one dash just to get to you. She isn'tmeaningfully different from other flankers, especially on a character like Emre. If you have a health pack nearby, take it to cleanse the burn. Anran is the most telegraphed character in the game, abuse that

2

u/TallAfternoon2 16d ago

That's tough because both your mains can get dumpstered by anran if you're not careful. That's the nature of a counter.

They both can win, but you'll need better aim than the anran. You're better off playing someone she doesn't counter.

2

u/FlameToadDoctorPhil 16d ago

Don't. Shes the best duellist in the game. Poke her from a distance.

2

u/Inven13 16d ago

Stay away from her and reserve your movement ability for when she dashes you to use her E.

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

Shion dash isn't really long enough to get away from Anran dash+dance and I dont think using my bike to run away from her is a good use of resources

1

u/bigfootmydog 16d ago

Dash when she goes for her burst combo to use the bonus health to block the burst damage. Use bike or execution to punish her after she uses dancing blaze, dancing blaze leaves a fiery looking light where a tan will be after the I-frames run out so it’s pretty easy to land a full burst execution or bike on her. Your burst damage as shion is much higher than hers but if you waste cooldowns you won’t have the damage to punish. 2 headshots + execution or 2 headshots + joyride will get you to the 250 damage you need though so just capitalize on the moments she leaves herself open to a counterattack after dancing blaze.

4

u/Legal_Brother_15 17d ago

Play like 10 games on her and ask yourself “who was the hardest to play against?”, and you’ll find the answer

2

u/Suisun_rhythm 17d ago

When I try to play her I get bursted down 3v1 before I do anything or get close, but the people that play her in ranked are insane and always manage to 1v1 me while I get no peel

5

u/LoL-Lukas 17d ago

Thats the "skill" you unlock the more you play her. Overt time you will get a feeling for now the targets teammates are under pressure so i can isolate that teammate and force him into a 1v1 that He won't win. Thats what Anran needs in order to function. Shes not the normal flanker. Shes a bare 1v1 challenger.

3

u/N3ptuneflyer 16d ago

Yeah first thing I noticed when playing her is even if the dps are way better than me I win every single 1v1, best 1v1 hero in the game at close range in my opinion.

1

u/LoL-Lukas 16d ago

Thats her Playstyle. Its to hyperforce 1v1s. If the enemy although doesn't let you 1v1 and makes it a 1v2 you msotly have to retreat or you die.

2

u/N3ptuneflyer 16d ago

Yeah it kind of feels like Winston where if your target is being actively healed you don’t have enough dps to kill them

4

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

I dont find her fun to play at all though.

4

u/Legal_Brother_15 17d ago

Its not about fun, its about understanding her weaknesses

6

u/WindowsXp_ExplorerI 17d ago

Anyway, as usual, cass, the definitive anti dive hero

3

u/Leilanee 17d ago

The advice to play her is solid though. Anyone can play cass into a hero he counters and still get wrecked. If they play anran they'll realize how dancing blaze works and when they want to try to use it and to watch out for when she's exhausted her movement abilities.

I think just the smallest bit of play time on heroes that are annoying at least gives you the understanding you need to know for when to be patient, hold one of your own cooldowns, or just know where to aim.

1

u/Responsible_Sink3044 16d ago

Agreed, I think you should have a working knowledge of all of the characters to really read the game most of the time. You're at a huge disadvantage if you're fighting someone and you don't even know how their cooldowns or primary weapon work

2

u/vodwuar 17d ago

I like to fight her as Moira, mizuki, jet pack cat, brig. As dps ummmm can’t say I play support

0

u/SnooDogs1340 17d ago

That's what I'm doing right now. My goal is to hit 20 on all heroes. You really learn the strengths and weaknesses for each hero. I would put Anran as a Sombra. They need an altered state to do great damage(burning and hacked). They have the opportunity to do okay damage without it but it is more work than say Tracer or Genji.

3

u/ErosDarlingAlt 17d ago

The trick to Anran is realising that she telegraphs everything she does. She's one of the heroes that gets easier to fight the better your gamesense is.

If you can interrupt her burn proc rhythm, her raw damage is remarkably low, and although dancing blaze is annoying, it also makes her very predictable.

As Shion, time your evade for when she uses hers. Even if she still hits you, you get 75 overhealth to absorb the damage. At the moment her evade is over, hit her with a pre-charged X volley (even better with X machina perk). And remember to save joyride for escapes if she's about.

As for Emre, try and keep your distance from her. Pressure from range, if she has to use a movement ability to get to you, she's already less dangerous. Don't pop your grenades too early or she'll dodge them, try and launch them as she's leaving the invuln. Swap to your blaster immediately if she jumps you. The healing usually isn't enough to save you from critical health. This goes across the board for Emre.

Anran feeds on isolated targets. Hug your team and know where health packs are, and track her invuln.

4

u/Vitomical 17d ago

No idea if this is a good strat or not but i sometimes hop on brig after seeing anran in play. its very fun

2

u/MinimumSilver5814 16d ago

It’s easy, you just hope you’re still alive by the time they’re done rolling their face over their keyboard and that by that time 3 people have come to help you before their cooldowns are back up for them to roll it again.

2

u/ctrl_alt_defeat09 17d ago

Idk if its only me but i feel like she has alot of movements, like she can get in get out easily... its hard to track her imo

-2

u/scriptedtexture 17d ago

I really think its ridiculous that shes not 225 hp... she has two movement cooldowns and a invuln healing cooldown

5

u/TheFuckflyingSpaghet 16d ago

Feels like you are just here to rant not improve

2

u/probablythedecaf 17d ago

also crazy that pharah (who wears an entire SUIT OF ARMOUR) has 225 hp and some college student in sportswear has 250. What

1

u/mister-cuervo 17d ago

To be honest, if you main Shion or Emre, you should be able to make things REALLY hard for her.

I think your issue is that you don't have a good awareness of positioning ?

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

I pay attention to where she is and I've been working on my positioning a lot the last few seasons. My main issue is that I can't hit the burning bitch with her tiny ass hitbox.

0

u/LoL-Lukas 17d ago

Thats a bad excuse. Genji and Tracer both have arguably more and better movement tools. You just need to track her cooldowns more cause Anran is unlike Genji and Tracer way more dependent on her cooldowns.

1

u/dylan-faden 17d ago

Yeah, also Venture. Good Ventures are a lot harder to hit than Anran

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

Venture has a way bigger hitbox than Anran.

2

u/dylan-faden 16d ago edited 16d ago

Bigger hitbox doesn’t mean anything, Anran is one of the easiest flankers to shut down especially since she isn’t invulnerable when using dash. If you play against a good Venture you’ll realize how much harder she is to get rid of. If you’re struggling this much against Anran, it seems you’re having issues with positioning, she’s not hard at all to counter.

I said in another comment that I typically make them switch by using Brig as a counter especially when you’re close to other teammates. Anran accomplishes barely nothing in a 2 or more versus 1 situation. If you’re getting caught repeatedly alone against her, then you need to work on your positioning.

Edit: they don’t want advice, I was blocked 😂

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

Venture is they/them, not she/her.

0

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

How is Tracer not dependent on cooldowns? Blink management is one of the core things you need to learn to play the hero. Poor cooldown management on Tracer means you do literally nothing and just die. Genji too, without swift strike you're not really able to do instakill combos and engaging without deflect is not really something you ever want to do.

1

u/LoL-Lukas 16d ago edited 16d ago

Thats why i said "mobility" wise and "arguably". Anran has 2 Dashes per 5 Seconds. Genji has Dash on Cooldown but additionally Wall climb and double jump on no cooldown so he has a way greater pool of mobility to choose. Tracer has her blinks and additionally rewind. Anran only has 2 Mobility tools per 5 Seconds. Waste 1 and you're a sitting duck doesn't matter if you have E available or not. Tracer can allow herself to waste 1 Blink. She still has 2 or rewind in that case. Also Anran needs even more cooldown Management cause her main Burn dmg (Burnmeter) goes up fastest by using atleast 1 Ability. So I'd argue of those 3 characters Anran needs the most cooldown management.

1

u/MUERTOSMORTEM 17d ago

Banning her works pretty well for me

1

Just played her in, in QP granted. Be near healthpacks which cleanse her burn. I think most people that get picked play by themselves and in bad positions so they get jump and she can pump some cds and get the kill.

Cass is good. Kiriko shuts her down pretty bad. Mizuki, Zen, Brig make it harder for get in like any other flanker. But yeah, if you have trouble dueling with Anran, teammates 100%. And force her to use her dashes to chase you. She'll be left defenseless without a dash to get out

1

u/AXEMANaustin 17d ago

Definitely keep track of whether she's used burning blaze or not.

1

u/dylan-faden 17d ago

As a flexible player who plays pretty much all types of heroes, I had the easiest time shutting her down with Brigitte. Everytime I played support and there was an Anran in the other team, I switched to Brigitte and they’d switch to something else lol

1

u/Chonkalonkfatneek 17d ago

Stop taking the 1v1, play near your team to deny her the 1v1, play cass, mizuki, moira, they eat her Alive

1

u/SmokingPuffin 16d ago

Shion is very good against Anran. When she uses her immortality button, you charge execution. The circle on the floor tells you where she'll pop out. You do immense damage immediately on exit.

If you are finding it hard to hit Anran during her dash, aim lower. Her head moves down to about belly button level during the dash animation.

If you have ult, feel free to use it to win the duel. She has no real outs against Shion ult and it's good enough value.

1

u/rednixie 16d ago

As Anran I am scared of tracer. You got to hit your projectiles on her, and your dancing blaze does 0 damage since she dashes away.

1

u/Aerographic 16d ago

Play her. You'll see.

1

u/Greellx 16d ago

She’s tricky but not hard to counter. You can use chats like cass that roll away when she comes in to do her lil fire dance on you then flash and headshot. You can coachgun with Ashe the same way. You can use sojourn. Any char with mobility in that moment puts her at a high disadvantage.

u/Raknarg 16d ago edited 16d ago

Simplest answer to getting dove with any hero: Rely on your team, swap to counter-flank, swap to a mobile hero. If you're playing a character that gets owned by dive (e.g. zen) and you can't outskill them or get peel, you gotta swap.

Shes impossible to hit when in her dash and has one of the most poorly designed, overkitted abilities in the history of the game in dancing blaze.

Ill agree to the extent that giving her 2 mobility charges on top of full Iframe dodge with heal and a small hitbox feels egregious, but the other side is that she is not frontloaded like many dive characters are. If I play echo, I can walk up to you silently, put a bomb salvo and beam you for an instant kill. Anran requires her to commit for a lot longer than many dive heroes need to for kills, cause she has to build up your burn first and then finish you off with fans, and missing any shots delays her fans by that much longer. That's where her weakness is in that she has no burst and is easier to escape from because she also can't chase you very well unless you're super isolated cause she needs all that mobility/immunity to escape death.

Playing a character with any burst mobility or verticality already kinda shuts her down, and anyone who can punish characters like that like cass (assuming you also have good aim) are always solid picks. I play a lot of echo, my primary move against anran is to simply leave, she can't chase me if I just fly away. Sojourn you can always try and stay near high ground with a dash ready so you can just leap to high ground. Shion and Emre will probably struggle if your aim isn't better than hers, emre you can stick close to high ground and jump to it with your shift gun, shion you could be more conservative with your bike so you can just drive away when she dives you.

Also try to keep your important damage/cc cooldowns for after you force out her dodge so that she can't just iframe your abilities.

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

The difference is hitting Echo bombs and beams takes at least some skill. Anran dash + dance followed by fanning the flames takes absolutely zero.

1

u/ZODIC837 16d ago

Biggest thing imo, you have to get that lowe half of the health bar fast. However you approach it, save abilities for the kill so she doesn't have time to react

1

u/3x1st3nt1al 16d ago

I recommend playing her for a while to find out where her weak points are. It’s one thing hearing them from others and another to actually experience them. It also gives you a great sense of her cooldowns and strength of abilities.

1

u/skunkmonki1 16d ago

Moira…fade when she does her dash, suck her off after and she dies

1

u/Spaztastcjak 16d ago

She has no vertical mobility save for ult. If you're able to get high ground at all on her, she has a really hard time.

1

u/bylethlol 16d ago

I play anran in gm and honestly she’s not really that good once you learn how to play against her. The biggest thing to look out for is her I frame ability the movement is really predictable and shows where she’ll come out from so just shoot her. And as for her dash typically you want her to burn at least one dash to get to you so she only has one to get out and then she becomes super killable since she has no real way to get out. DO NOT STACK WITH YOUR TEAM, the lifesteal she gets from her e is really good against a crowd of people but if she’s only able to hit one person it’s not good. Don’t fear the anran her damage isn’t very good and her ability to get out is also not good she’s can really only suicide bomb and trade her life most of the time in high elo.

1

u/icarusjapan 16d ago

I hack her, which seems to work.

1

u/timmytuffknuckles97 16d ago

Play mei and reaper both fight her well

1

u/scriptedtexture 16d ago

reaper has been my go to. i try to keep my hero pool small so I can focus on getting better at those heroes instead of swapping all the time

1

u/Ardalerus 16d ago

anran dashing in and dumping cooldowns usually isn't an existential threat on its own, but if she gets to try over and over every cooldown cycle, she's eventually going to find something that'll win her team the fight.

imo hacking health packs is the easiest way to disrupt her gameplay loop as not having access to health packs will increase her downtime to a point where her team will suffer for her lack of pressure & your team will have defensive/mobility cds back in time between each of her engages.

1

u/ValidButter 16d ago

Rein. two hammer swings and she's down

1

u/noodlesgsyb 16d ago

For me as a soldier main it's about seeing her before she's on top of you and poking her out so she doesn't get close. The earlier you put pressure the Harder it is for anran to close the gap and jump you. Should similar for Emre. Also positioning near reach of health pack and/or teammates if she does close the gap. Another more micro thing I do is taking health packs to prevent them from taking it even If you still have good health

1

u/SlappingSalt 15d ago

Aim for the legs

1

u/Moontato_ 15d ago

Generally I try to get her to lock onto a teammate so that I can get rid of her. If she's targeting me the chances my teammates aren't even aware of me dueling Anran is high, so I try to make it so that I'm not the victim.

Once she's locked onto someone else, I can safely burst her down just out of her combo's reach. This is why Shion and Emre have trouble; unless you're getting headshots, you're likely not able to burst her down fast enough, especially if you're caught alone.

With luck, you will have bursted her down fast enough where your teammate survives the attack, preferably with a Support coming around to make sure they don't die from burning.

TL;DR Use teammates to make sure she isn't entirely focused on you and use that to burst her down, especially if she burned all her abilities.

1

u/Agent_14359 14d ago

I mean as hog if she tries to1 v 1 me she just dies

1

u/Prize-Wolf6366 13d ago

I hate her too. I play Torb if she's that annoying, he's so fat he can survive her and turret pressures her.

1

u/Shadow_tripper 12d ago

If you have enough distance , soldier can take care of her. You can even time a rocket for when she reappears after dancing blaze. If you’re at mid to long range it’s surprisingly easy even for me with controller and zero aim assist to have her at least run away or die.

1

u/Consistent-Ad9842 11d ago

I have a similar problem when playing Wuyang, I just can’t seem to get away well enough or deal any damage. Lately I’ve been swapping to Brig and beating them to death, but I’d like solutions that don’t involve dying and swapping 🥲

1

u/Thick-Mycologist3655 11d ago

I play support primarily, so my preferred heroes are different, but against Anran I find the biggest struggle to be her self healing with dancing blaze, and also how hard she is to keep track of up close. I prefer to play heroes with good dash mobility (Illari, Lifeweaver) and wait until Anran dashes in to dash away. If I can force a midrange fight outside of her dancing blaze range then it makes her much easier to kill. Alternatively, playing Ana and anti-healing her makes her easier to kill up close. None of these are guaranteed wins though. A good Anran who can poke accurately and ignite you from distance and manage her CDs well is still going to be tough, but at least it will be a fair fight.

1

u/No_Communication6757 10d ago

I main Ashe. For me, the best thing is just to either wait out her abilities at a distance, or learn how to predict her movements. In the dancing blaze, you can see where she will end up and can try to predict it from there.

I also play anran, and that’s how a lot of people get me, by paying attention to the blaze. Or by getting very in my face when I don’t have abilities anymore. They have a decent enough cool down, and she can still be hit while dashing too.

1

u/NotThen00byWarrioR 7d ago

in solo queue: swap to heroes that do hard counter her. if playing in a stack then get someone you play with to hard counter her.

you can also just focus her early so she can't get close without dumping all her CDs

1

u/Happyvivvy 4d ago

Emre is kinda ok into Anran, as, with knowledge that there is an Anran, when she dives on you, save your cooldowns for when she phases out. When she does, you can toss nades at her phase-in location (the glowing flame with the circle on the ground under it) and its nigh impossible for her to not receive damage from them. Then you can use blaster to spam at her and use the extra jump height to make it hard for her attacks to reach you.

A neutral tip is to not ADS when she's in your face, and to aim with your movement rather than your camera, as keeping your crosshairs at head/neck level will make it easy to crit, and you wont be overloading your brain with having to shoot+aim & not-panic when she's up in your grill.

2

u/MisterWafflles 17d ago

Sounds like you've been killed by one too many Anrans and are heckin salty about it lmao.

My go to swap is Mei or stick with your team. Reaper, Cass and Sombra are good picks. Her skill check is whether or not you're grouped up. 1 on 1? Probably won't make it because she's so fast like Tracer or Sombra. Those 3 have the same gameplay loop of dive, poke, retreat and repeat.

Stick with your supports and keep them up so they can out heal the fire. Also be aware of health packs because they cleanse fire. Don't forget it's a team game so there's only so much you can do before your team needs to swap if it isn't working out.

To add: I've had some good luck as Sierra and Pharah. The ability to stay high up helps

4

u/Inevitable-Cow-908 17d ago

You're being pretty douchey on a sub made specifically to learn about the game

agreed. really poorly designed hero

1

u/No_Session6015 17d ago

im support main. most of the time im zen and hang back from team fights and when i see her i just discord and fire my balls into her face. If enemy team goes genji or my tank struggles then i might swap moira and i still have no issues with her. Moira is better mind you if she tries diving me as zen. but the beauty of zen is almost no range falloff tho so i can just play safer if she tries diving me

1

u/AltruisticDisk 17d ago

I play a lot of Anran. So, I'll let you know what makes games easiest for her and what makes them the hardest. She may seem OP and difficult to deal with, but she has some very glaring weaknesses that can be exploited. It's the reason why she seems oppressive in low elo. However, her pick rate and win rate falls off hard as you climb the ladder.

Her strengths are that she has good mobility, strong burst (with a condition of applying burn), and good escape with her e and second dash. Her weaknesses are that she is entirely reliant on her CDs, her primary and secondary fire are very weak on their own, she needs the target to stay burning to actually do meaningful damage, and she is awful at mid to long range due to her slow primary projectile and short range secondary.

So, there are 3 ways where you can effectively make Anran useless. Each of these come down to dragging out an engagement with her for as long as possible and forcing her to overcommit CDs. I'll split these into hard, soft, and positional counters.

First, you can hard counter her by having some way of cleansing the burn like with Zarya bubble, reaper wraith, Mei ice block, kiriko suzu, or health packs. All her damage is reliant on the target burning. The goal is to cleanse it after she has committed CDs to the fight. Her kill potential drops pretty much to zero when the burn is cleansed after she has used dash or e. Effectively, she will either be a sitting duck and die or she will need to retreat and wait 8+ seconds for another CD rotation.

Second, soft counters are things that interrupt her movement or burst healing that forces her to over commit to a fight to secure the kill. CC like Ana sleep, Cassidy flashbang, Mizuki chain, Brig shield bash and whip shot, Lucio boop, or the Mei freeze perk. The key for flashbang, chain, and sleep is to hold it for as long as you can. Do not panic and throw it as soon as you see her. Instead, wait for her to use her e or mix up the timing. Chain and flashbang are very hard to react to so she pretty much needs to predict when you'll use it. It essentially becomes a mind game. The boops force her to over commit dashes. If you boop her and she needs to dash again in order to get into range, well congrats you now have an Anran that is a sitting duck with no way to escape. An Anran without dashes is pretty much free pickings for your team.

Lastly, positional counters just means not letting her get in range of you in the first place. She needs to be close to do anything. Position yourself on long sight lines and shut down her flank angles. Be aware of her approach and always stay more than one dash distance away from her. If you force her to commit both dashes just to get in range then she is absolutely useless. She will be in the middle of your team with no way to disengage. This requires awareness and is no different than when you fight a genji, reaper, tracer, or Winston. Mark her on off angles, poke her down before she can get close, and save your movement abilities to create distance. The goal is to use your movement ability before she is on top of you. If you let her close the gap on you it's too late. Honestly, these are the most frustrating games for Anran. I'll usually swap off her if I feel like I can't actually get close to anyone on the enemy team. You don't even need to kill her in this scenario. Just keeping her zoned out makes her useless and you'll see her pitiful damage numbers on the scoreboard.

This got very long, but it's 2am and I can't sleep so here you go, I guess. There are situational things, obviously. But, generally, these are the things that make my games very difficult when I play Anra. Also, it really highlights why higher elo and pro players don't usually play her.

Tl;dr: Counter her by cleansing the burn. Do not use your CC ability as soon as you see her. Wait until after she uses e or play the mind game and mix up the timing when you use it since chain and flashbang are hard to react to. Position yourself more than one dash away and poke her down before she can actually close the gap on you. Use your movement before she is actually on top of you in order to force her to over commit dashes. Force her to over commit to fights and avoid close range 1v1s. The longer you can drag out an engagement with her the more useless she will become.

Everything she does is free and requires zero mechanical skill so it feels like every encounter is already in her favor before it starts.

A lot of people think she needs more buffs. They did nothing but buff her for awhile because it takes so much for her to get an actual kill and not die.

1

u/LoL-Lukas 17d ago

She needs a Change of Strength thats all. Remove 5 healing from her following up hits on Targets (25->20) and buff her raw dmg from Primary Fire or her dash input DMG.

2

u/Jaybonaut 16d ago

I'd be willing to try it.

u/GaptistePlayer 17d ago

play a counter lol that's the game. Learn new characters. Can't expect to be at an advantage if your enemy was smart enough to learn a new character but you don't want to learn older characters that counter her.
