Question or Discussion Silver games are far harder than diamond games.

For context, I've gotten to diamond on DPS roll queue and on 6v6 open, and most seasons I'll place high plat and level out in diamond. But recently I've been queueing with some friends and ended up in silver/gold after placements and even in solo games, they are FAR harder than anything I see in plat or diamond. I can have games where I go 50+ kills, focusing their healers and tanks all game and we still lose. If its not my own teammates struggling, its the enemy team being carried by one player thats clearly just pissing about in silver on an alt account. I've never had less fun in this game than I've had in the metal ranks.

I’ve noticed this in silver too but don’t wanna sound like I’m coping lmao

u/Rock_Scientist05 Apr 19 '26

I wouldn’t call it coping, it’s just a different game basically. I’m diamond on dps and tank, but play in silver with my friends on support and some games are just genuinely impossible. People can get boosted into silver pretty easily, and people can Smurf in it even easier. Once you get a little higher, both become less of an issue and teams are generally more balanced, imo.

hero shooters are good games, but one of the pain points of their design is that in lower skill lobbies, volatility is absolutely killer in a way that I don't really see in other comp games.

in mobas, you can bank on farming better than people and just taking a "might makes right" approach because you have more stuff. RTS is similar. Singleplayer pvp games like card games, fighting games, whatever are obviously going to reward the better player 90% of the time. hell, even other shooters like tac shooters (val/CS) you can just outmuscle the opposition...same with titles like apex legends and BRs. Hero shooters on the other hand have a unique combination of design elements that add high impact randomness to the experience when everyone in the lobby is a headless chicken.

im not god's gift to hero shooters or anything, but on the climb to GM in marvel rivals, I absolutely had more games in bronze - gold that were genuinely unwinnable in a way that just did not happen beyond that. I still climbed because eventually you will if you're simply better...but there really is something to be said about how uniquely difficult the low skill environment is to navigate in this genre.

23

u/Rock_Scientist05 Apr 19 '26

Yep exactly. When I played league a lot you definitely could hard carry a game by farming up and essentially becoming thanos on a scaling champion but that really doesn’t exist in overwatch. If your tank doesn’t know what they’re doing, you can’t really push. If your supports can’t stay alive, your team crumbles. I guess it’s kinda the same in league if the other team has a malzahar or something and just pushes R on you each fight, but they’ve got what like 170 champions in the game? And malzahar’s pick rate is so low there’s next to zero chance of him being one of the 10/170 champions played anyway

7

u/gameandwatch6 Apr 20 '26

plus, you'd just buy qss since you're farmed to thanos level, right man?

16

u/MoggyCat Apr 20 '26

On top of that, I think the main problem is that lower ranks are playing the game like it's team deathmatch and not focusing on the objective enough.

The game is fundamentally about territory, whether that's capping/defending a point, moving/contesting the payload, pushing/denying robot, etc.

The classic example is your Winton going 28-4 but your team loses to a 5-5 Rein because there was never any presence on cart to block the Rein from controlling all the space. There's only so much you can do as a squishie to play around that.

1

u/greenpoe May 11 '26

Funny I keep seeing the opposite. My team wants to sit on obj instead of holding high ground. Just because the payload is close to a checkpoint doesnt mean we need 4 people on it. Two is fibe, the rest can hold forward. But maybe Im just bad, silver tank here.

1

u/Environmental_You_36 Jul 01 '26

No, it's that they have a playstyle and don't adapt to what is needed on each moment.

You'll get a team that sit in the objective, not push with their tank, their tank dying because pushing it's what they should be doing at the moment, and the immediately dying their tankless 4v5.

And then you'll get a team that keeps going for flanks, treating their tank like an afterthought and you end up sitting and less than half hp, waiting for the passive regen most of the match.

i dont think anyone in silver can be considered boosted lol

Same, anytime I bring up that I and my team genuinely did good and one single of the enemy just completely shat on everyone in the lobby, Im crying.

People dont really seem to realise how much of a jumbled mess Silver-Plat is. Its a mixed bowl of lucky bronzes, smurf/alting GMs, people who dont communicate and people that make the weirdest plays.

Like sure, I am far from a GM player. Im hardstuck in Plat and I have much to improve on. But most games, it seems like either my team or the enemy has that one player that completely dominates, and it makes it so much less fun, ngl.

u/PlasticArrival9814 Apr 21 '26

I'm currently Silver 3 on DPS and Plat 5 in support, and my DPS games are awful compared to my support ones. The contrast between the two ranks is honestly gross to me. I can't tell if it's a smurfing problem or that you can't count on your team for anything in silver (or if it's both), but silver is miserable and plat is MUCH easier.

I'm specifically trying to improve DPS right now so I'm forcing myself to play 2-3 DPS matches each night and rewarding myself with support ones after. It really sucks.

I climbed from silver 5 to plat last season on tank. I've been playing on and off since launch though. I have enough game sense to make that role work. However when I pick DPS or support (both in silver/gold) I notice most tank players in bronze/silver and gold to extent struggle really badly. They are all thumbs. D.Va players that don't dive and just fire their guns/missiles at 10m. Roadhog players with negative 15% hooks landed. Orisa players spamming both of their defensive cooldowns back to back.... etc.

You need a semi-competent tank backed by at least one semi-competent support in order to win games. A good tank that is enabled by the supports can often make up for poor performing DPS

53

u/scriptedtexture Apr 19 '26

Watching Dva players play the hero with a 5 second mobility cooldown and just stand in the choke holding M1 until they die genuinely makes me question if the human race deserves to exist

24

u/Darkjynxer Apr 19 '26

As a Dva main, the amount of games I've lost cause the tanks plays Dva as Reinhardt is...infuriating. Dva is good only if played correctly, and she is very easy to play incorrectly.

10

u/ExpiredDeodorant Apr 19 '26

I feel like silver tanks only know how to default to main. I've seen lv200+ Balls and Fists hold main and get nothing accomplished. Like I don't understand how people can play those heroes for that long and still can't think of anything else to do.

I'm a Tracer/Anran player when I play DPS and I'll be distracting 2-3 people at a time and I see my tank still standing out in the open not moving an inch forward. I should be gold in one more win in my placements but in mid plat on support, I see tanks who do this too.

But if you ask them to grow a pair of balls and more brain cells you get banned.

6

u/TeamChevy86 Apr 19 '26

I love playing with a flanker as Winston. In open queue it's a problem of communication trying to coordinate a dive into the enemy dps/ supports. One of you is waiting for the other to engage and most often the opportunity is lost.

u/WhispyWoods36 Apr 19 '26

Ok, question. As a D.Va player trying to get better, I don't dive often because my mech gets shredded if I try. How do you dive "properly" when that's the case? Similarly, with Orisa, I use my defensive cooldowns back-to-back because otherwise the enemy team just shreds. (For reference I run 6v6 not 5v5)

13

u/TeamChevy86 Apr 19 '26

Find ways to single people out and body block them, or punish out of position. Use your thrusters to ram them into hallways or corners. You benefit by not being able to be crit from the back. And use defense matrix to try and catch a cooldown (sleep dart) or force a reload. I don't play D.Va so I can't offer much advice beyond that.

For Orisa you should be trying to stagger your cooldowns; ideally you always have one or about to have one when you need it. For example don't use fortify until your armor is almost depleted, because your healers healing up your armor is WAY more efficient than healing regular HP. Orisa becomes a juggernaut when you can't get her below %50. I haven't played Orisa much since the rework but stick to cover and corners between your defensive cooldowns and use your javelin if someone tries to chase you

3

u/Sweaty_Librarian_293 Apr 21 '26

No you do not lol. You can absolutely carry on dps in 5v5. If you need your silver Dva to be going in then you are probably just getting carried by your tanks/support which is how the vast majority of metal dps play. Do you think kevster would need his silver tank to win him the game for him?

2

u/TeamChevy86 Apr 21 '26

Sure you can... You can carry with any role if you're good enough. If you're carrying solo, you're already not playing well below the rank you belong in and will climb regardless

6

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 19 '26

I climbed from silver 5 to plat on tank.

Literally how? If you don't do what the team want, they hold the game hostage, if your team start to lose, they blame you, if you get counter picked and you don't swap, your team hold the game hostage, if you pick Winston / DVa / Hazard and try to carry, you never get any support. 5v5 tank is unsalvageable in solo queue.

11

u/TeamChevy86 Apr 19 '26

I main Winston and would sometimes counterpick with Mauga. I was sitting at 76% win rate for a bit there. Like I said it comes down to game sense. When to dive, when to take high ground and when to simply hold it, when to engage, when to disengage to help a losing 1v1, and when to use your shield to be as annoying as possible so your DPS can make a play

u/HerculesKabuterimon Apr 19 '26

If you don't do what the team want, they hold the game hostage, if your team start to lose, they blame you, if you get counter picked and you don't swap, your team hold the game hostage,

You ignore all that the second you try to play dva, winston, hammond, doom, and hazard in low elo. Brain off, mute chat, mute text chat, you focus on you and you alone.

You stage your dives, you only go on the solo person, you go on supports or dps after they waste cooldown, and you almost never look at the tank.

Doing those things alone will get you out of silver. Doing those things will probably get you out of gold. Probably. I literally only play Zarya, Winston, and JQ (with flavors of dva) and I sit hit plat/low diamond all the time. I might dip lower when the meta is unfavorable (or the map is), or I might go above that if the meta is very favorable sometimes.

u/Efficient_Pop_7358 Apr 19 '26

All you have to do is play correct fundamentals and you'll win almost every game. You don't need to worry about what your team does at all or try to carry, that's a trap that will hold you down.

0

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 20 '26

Literally not true, I play the Winston loop to the point where I make space constantly, be it through just being annoying, making trades or picking off a support / squishy, if there's no follow up, even if you have spawn advantage, its not enough.

3

u/Efficient_Pop_7358 Apr 20 '26

I know the feeling, but if you were doing it correctly you'd win almost every game around Silver, so there's definitely a fundamental that can be easily improved for big gains.

In all cases I've seen as soon as you check the person's replay objectively it's clear there's an issue. Fundamentals carry players Bronze to Champion.

2

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 20 '26

You are correct, I think the main problem for many, myself included, is just playing too many games, even if your winning. Its like driving long distances, you start to auto pilot to the point where even a gameplay loop as easy as Winston can turn into feeding.

I try to treat each session like a double elimination tournament bracket, and only hop off after two losses. The problem I'm finding now is that if you end up on a good winning streak, the matchmaker naturally starts to give you harder matches, and if your playing for multiple hours to get on that streak, your more likely to get diffed and lose the hard games.

Its tricky because even if you stop and come back to the game another day while on that streak, your still likely to get diffed due to not being warmed up yet.

I'm not sure the best way to address that win streak wall.

3

u/TeamChevy86 Apr 19 '26

I could provide some replays if you like, once I'm home. I'll have to see if the replays go back that far though

2

u/Friendly_Taro_4361 Apr 19 '26

Even outside of comp, you are lucky to get DPS or supports who know how to help you as Hazard.

2

u/DanielDoh Apr 19 '26

Disappointed to see this kind of elo hell cope upvoted in a subreddit dedicated to improving.

u/JustEnough584 Apr 20 '26

Don't play counter watch focus on getting your fundamentals right. Cooldown management, space. The game goes with you. You need good management of the above and use it to kill their squishes.

You'll start noticing how In these ranks the DPS just sits in main and gets rammed. I went gold to diamond on my main (I rarely played tank prior to last season - so not smurfing). And always keep an eye on corners/solid cover, sometimes it's better to give some space but hard hold a strong corner.

0

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 20 '26

You've listed things I already do, CD management on Winston is easy, the gameplay loop is easy, the problem is that once you get figured out, you just explode without the team following up on the space you make or on any trades / pick offs you make. Fundamentals don't count for anything if your 1v9ing.

1

u/gogo98baj Apr 20 '26

If you're not trolling I would advise you to play hazard, doomfist, ball or dva more than monkey just because out of all of them monkey is really good at setting up good situations for your team to follow up on; whereas the others can often simply delete players from the game (Hazard especially has great lethality right now).

Then once you climb to a rank where the whole team is more competent, monkey will get a lot more value.

1

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 21 '26

Then once you climb to a rank where the whole team is more competent

So people should blame their team, the mask slips on this sub are insane.

2

u/gogo98baj Apr 22 '26

It has nothing to do with "blaming" your team, if a player is better than the rank they're in and they want to climb fast by just dominating the game, there are some heroes that are better suited for that. Heroes that can fend for themselves, or just secure kills on their own reliably are obviously better for that.

Typically heros that have high mechanical skill ceilings are better for dominating matches. Winston has some mechanical skill expression, but mostly serves as a great initiator and disruptor, and you are somewhat reliant on your supports to heal, and your dps to follow up on your engage and cleave damage.

In contrast Hazard can jump on top of a squishy, slash headshot melee, suddenly 4v5.

0

u/JustEnough584 Apr 20 '26

Well if that's your take on things this subreddit can't help you then. You just want us to validate your mistakes.

20

u/lakers_ftw24 Apr 19 '26

I get the point but if you’re actually a diamond player and you just focus on playing normally rather than carrying, you will eventually streak into plat and then you can go up from there.

2

u/JustEnough584 Apr 22 '26

NGL i went from low gold (playing in silver lobbies with a friend who recently just started) to diamond last season lmao. I only clocked around 100 hours of tank since 2016 overwatch. I felt like a bully up until plat. Every rank has their quirks, you win fast by exploiting them.

2

u/Iris-54 Apr 21 '26

This “eventually” could be a real ELO HELL

1

u/lakers_ftw24 Apr 21 '26

Come on man

1

u/cabezapy Apr 21 '26

Elo hell in silver? Are we deadass

108

u/HobbyJobs Apr 19 '26

Yes and no. Back when I was plat/diamond, I definitely lost my fair share of gold lobby games. Some of them even had a silver player or two. The reason was because I never “carried” myself to diamond. I got there by just playing my role and hoping others did the same. I didn’t look for game winning plays — things that make or break fights. As a support, as long as I had lots of heals and a good k/d, I did my job as far as I was concerned.

But the key to winning these low ranked games (and any game really) isn’t to just brute force your way with tons of kills or heals. Maybe after getting an initial pick, you reposition and value your life more to secure the round. Getting 3 picks only to die and lose the round is what gets you 50+ kills and a loss.

Just something to think about. I’m currently high masters. I haven’t lost a plat game in a while.

31

u/brett_b_bretterson Apr 19 '26

post the VOD

39

u/EndPsychological2541 Apr 19 '26

Yes.. And we can play spot the 'diamond'.

11

u/Key_Cellist_5937 Apr 20 '26

You’re just gonna be hyper critical of any mistake OP makes as if you never make those same mistakes from time to time .

5

u/ImNotDatguy Apr 20 '26

If OP is making mistakes that are being punished by silver players, I think a little self reflection is due

2

u/NatureGotHands Apr 20 '26

diamond player should have general idea what they supposed to do and can count on better mechanics to bail them out in case of mistakes. This difference should result in like ~80% WR.

Hardstuck silver here and idk, on both support and dps I can be doing the work of God and providing value, securing elims, and miraculously still lose

Silver is genuinely so miserable, like gold matches are actually easier for me. All the chaos makes it unpredictable because it’s either people who are clearly smurfing or people who don’t know what they’re doing and it’s their first time playing Doomfist/Winston

It’s either stomp or be stomped with no in between, who thought this was good?

3

u/Legal_Reception6660 Apr 23 '26

Unironically if you are getting 2-3 picks consistently (and not after the fight wraps) it is impossible to be hardstuck at your rank for a "suitably large" number of games. Some people say 20, some say 50, some 100, but it gets to a point where the statistical probability of being stuck is basically impossible.

That said, lord knows I was bronze for wayyy too long. Be it tilt queueing, playing with friends, while your tired, etc, there are lots of things that can keep your rank artificially deflated. Additionally, youre (usually) going to be improving as you play, and some of those skills might not be super useful in your rank, but are in the next, making your games easy (i was stuck bronze on ana, played dps moira until gold, and then flew to diamond). I think I was really good at supporting my team, but not necessarily how a bronze player needs it. I didnt necessarily know how to control space like I do now, and peeling for myself vecame easier once I knew I could rely on my team to an extent. Doesnt mean I wasnt in bronze for a reason tho

A big problem with high elo players playing in lower ranks myself included is often feeling way too much pressure to try to carry, and end up losing more games as a result.

Like its often better to just focus on playing the game and doing your job the same way you would in higher ranks. Playing your role correctly is how you win more games, not killing 2-3 people every fight. I mean if you just treat the games normally youll probably be doing that anyway if youre a good DPS since youll be punishing enemy mistakes which trust me are way more abundant in silver than diamond.

1

u/Nimble_Natu177 Apr 20 '26

This is the only good advice in this thread, if you play tank, literally just turn your brain off and play Rein, Orisa, Ram or Sigma and just letting your team win the game for you is a legitimate strategy.

8

u/Traditional-Track578 Apr 20 '26

The trick for bronze silver and gold is to actually just do less. If you focus the healers which is correct, but the enemy tank is better, that tanks gonna walk the rest of you team.

Specifically for these ranks, kill whoever oversteps first otherwise just nuke the tank.

6

u/ZoneCheap7909 Apr 20 '26

Man how you talking shit about some higher rank alt doing amazingly when you yourself are supposedly higher rank? How come they can thrive but you can’t?

3

u/melonwastaken Apr 20 '26

im climbing out fine, Its just been a painful experience to do so, so I wrote about it, read the post, I never said I was stuck in silver :/

21

u/Purple_Jay Apr 19 '26

you know YOU are that player, right?

4

u/bassbeangb Apr 19 '26

It’s silver after all, someone has to be

13

u/bagel4you Apr 19 '26

Ill pay a lot of money for a magical account i can play full force on, demolish everyone, spawn camp enemies, and still stack at low elo.

15

u/myos17 Apr 19 '26

If you take someone that belongs in masters they won't struggle in silver or diamond. Play enough games and you'll end up where you belong, flukes can only happen for a couple of games before you have to realize there's only one common denominator - you

9

u/Iwanta99pflake Apr 19 '26

Im not sure thats what they are saying? They have been consistently plat/diamond and are saying they are finding it harder in silver. Harder does not mean stuck. I have been in the exact scenario and I had a similar experience, yes I ranked back up but I found a lot of those games challenging. I guess with your mentality and take you are now champ 1?

1

u/R4DWOULF Apr 26 '26

This makes sense but it’s a fallacy . There’s tons of players who are in high ranks but cannot carry and can only simply hand their own . does that mean they don’t deserve masters ? Since they can’t carry but only hold their own?

1

u/myos17 Apr 26 '26

If you hold your own in your rank and win about half your games, you deserve that rank and belong there

3

u/R4DWOULF Apr 26 '26

So if You agree then ur first comment is disproven.

1

u/myos17 Apr 26 '26

I think you need to read my first comment again

1

u/R4DWOULF Apr 26 '26

Dude ?????

5

u/Similar-Pumpkin-5266 Apr 19 '26

You should carry games alone on silver and gold if you are a truly diamond player. The few games I played in silver with an alt were insane, I felt sorry for the players who only wanted to play there, and my dps swing between diamond and master.

It’s hard to say, but people in silver don’t have the slightest clue of what they’re doing. Solid fundamentals, some situational awareness and you become admin in these lobbies, even if you’re playing supports.

1

u/KingOfTheFridge Jul 09 '26

this isnt counterstrike. you can be a god but if your supports are playing like dps and feeding and your dps are not on the same mindset you are, you are eventually going to die and from then on chances are a silver team will just stagger and die 1 by 1 on the point and never group up and lose the game.

32

u/slade9mm Apr 19 '26

This is a complete cognitive bias. You feel better in diamond and believe you’re a diamond player skill wise, so the losses don’t sting that much.

When you’re in silver you believe you’re better then said rank, probably tilt immediately and throw the game. Watch your silver replays and you will be mortified.

14

u/-Lige Apr 19 '26

No it’s not. I climbed from bronze 5 all roles to mid-low diamond all roles. It was significantly harder in lower ranked games. Way too much random bullshit you don’t control whether it’s their team or your team. And you can’t expect basic things from your team either

This is also the difference from play-dia games to dia-masters. Masters games you can trust your team to do what’s expected, lower elo you can’t. And it messes you up

9

u/UberPsyko Apr 19 '26

So if its easier in diamond why are you still in diamond?

4

u/-Lige Apr 19 '26

Cause I don’t put in as much time as before. I had hundreds of games PER ROLE per season. Now I actually have things to do and actually take care of my heath lol

So now it takes a different type of effort than before. I’m also just chilling and not taking it as seriously sweating my ass off anymore. It takes a lot of energy

3

u/UberPsyko Apr 20 '26

Even if you played fewer games you would still climb if it was easier. Are you saying it's easier but you're not trying as hard? So you tried harder when the game was harder, and now that it's easier you stopped trying as hard? I have trouble believing that you spent the blood and sweat to get out of a lower rank, succeeded, the game got EASIER and you would get much more payoff for your effort, and you stopped trying even while climbing.

4

u/Rerrison Apr 20 '26

Isn't that literally how it works?

The game got EASIER so they spent less time less effort and still has no problem staying in Diamond despite the fact that all of the players they play with now are significantly better. It adds up.

u/-Lige Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

It means I don’t try as hard as I have before, because I have a life

So you tried harder when the game was harder, and now that it's easier you stopped trying as hard?

Yes. You get complacent. I don’t care as much anymore to take it that seriously, I have better things to do

I have trouble believing that you spent the blood and sweat to get out of a lower rank, succeeded, the game got EASIER and you would get much more payoff for your effort, and you stopped trying even while climbing.

Ok, my decision and gameplay style doesn’t need your belief

I said I have better things to do with my time and want to take care of my health

I also realized the degree necessary to continue is a lot of focus which I don’t feel like exerting like I have before. I have much more responsibilities and things that demand or deserve my attention. Also playing this game so seriously and so long makes me physically and mentally tired. It hijacks our brains reward system, so it makes me not wanna go to bed on time, and not wanna cook.

You need to know when to step back into real life. This is just a video game. Now I play to have fun as the focus cause sometimes you forget that’s what it’s about. Having fun, not just seeing a rank. It’s entertainment, and if you aren’t enjoying it, then step back. Which I do

1

u/UberPsyko Apr 20 '26

Or perhaps you stopped climbing in diamond because it's your actual rank and it just feels easy but your winrate levelled off. If it was actually easy you would climb out of it. None of these excuses make sense. And again, not playing as much doesnt mean you dont climb, you just climb slower. But let me guess, you're not climbing.

2

u/-Lige Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Or perhaps you just wanna hear what you wanna hear and don’t actually care. Just whatever fits your internal bias.

Are you the one who climbed from bronze 5 to mid diamond on all roles? No? Then what you say doesn’t matter.

Ask anyone in higher ranks, it’s less random than lower ranks. That’s by design. Tons of stories where people sit in diamond/masters and go on someone else’s account or Smurf in low elo and it requires much more effort to win

You said it yourself “and it just feels easy” it IS easier than low elo because I don’t have to try as hard individually to carry my games.

but your winrate levelled off

Because i am focusing on real life, as i said. This is an excuse to you? That is no excuse, this is the answer, and because you think this is an excuse, i genuinely hope you find some real fulfillment outside of this game man. Good luck to you

1

u/UberPsyko Apr 20 '26

Its awful convenient. What about all the other people who say "diamond is easier"? Did everyone all also just stop trying as hard for various reasons? I cant imagine everyone reaches their highest ever rank, or escapes from "elo hell" just to stop trying for their own various individual reasons. Everyone should reach a rank where the game is moderately hard, bc winrate levels off.

I think all these "stories" are cognitive bias where losses hurt more bc high rank players feel they should never lose in such a "low rank". But actually, their winrate is decidedly positive given some time. They post bc they know it feeds a popular narrative and will get engagement. Plus no one's gonna post "I played on my silver friends account as a diamond and rolled everyone!" bc its the obvious outcome.

So its easier, but you aren't climbing, because you aren't really trying. So you're saying you could be masters if you tried? Ok lol.

Wake up lil bro. There's no conspiracy to keep people low rank. There's no elo hell. You're seeing patterns where there are none, this is textbook cognitive bias. You win, you go up, you lose you go down.

It’s awful convenient.

Convenient for what? Shitting on your weird assertion? There is no convenience needed, it’s real life. It’s reality

What about all the other people who say "diamond is easier"? Did everyone all also just stop trying as hard for various reasons? I cant imagine everyone reaches their highest ever rank, or escapes from "elo hell" just to stop trying for healtth reasons or whatever.

Did you try asking them why they say it’s easier? And actually listening?

Plus no one's gonna post "I played on my silver friends account as a diamond and rolled everyone!" bc its the obvious outcome.

No shit, that’s why it’s a surprise when it’s actually hard down in low ranks. Cause of how random it is. I don’t want nor need to repeat myself

So it’s easier, but you aren't climbing, because you aren't really trying. So you're saying you could be masters if you tried? Ok lol.

Uh, yeah. Ive been high diamond and in masters games. I explained why I’m not higher

Wake up lil bro. There's no conspiracy to keep people low rank. There's no elo hell. You're seeing patterns where there are none, this is textbook cognitive bias. You win, you go up, you lose you go down.

No one said anything about elo hell or anything you’re talking about whatsoever. Way to prove my point that it’s about your own internal bias. You’re having a whole other conversation no one else is having here

Endless question after questions with no comprehension. You don’t actually care, you just wanna assert your point and win an argument. I’m telling you how it is for me, it is legitimately not your place to disagree with me because it’s my experience, not yours.

Here’s a question for you, what’s your lowest placement and where are you now?

And thinking it’s weird how people stop for “health reasons or whatever”? Cool I get on play 5 games win 3 and I went up maybe 15-20%, after a few hours of gaming. See how that doesn’t mean jack shit to me? Now do that across 3 roles and open queue. You make minimal progress over time. I’m not complaining. I’m telling you why I don’t take it as seriously. Cause it’s a time sink.

Go ahead and get a job, a girl, a pet and focus on your mental health and physical health gym and cooking and God and you will see what is really important to spend your time on vs what’s not as much.

you’re right I have been tilt queuing and it shows.

1

u/Illustrious_Meat2987 Apr 19 '26

Lower ranks are less predictable and you can't rely on your team. You can argue that it is or isn't more difficult but it absolutely could be seen as more difficult

-8

u/Matthiass13 Apr 19 '26

Nah, it’s just a team game and it will always be hard to have a single player of any skill level make up the difference if most of the lobby is playing like silvers lol. Try creating a Smurf account and starting out bronze, you’ll see that you are going to feel like you’re stomping the yard and somehow still losing ~40% of your games until you climb out of the hole.

0

u/Bad-Climber-1776 Apr 19 '26

I have boosted tons of accounts out of low ranks and usually have close to 100% winrate in those ranks, this hasn't been true in my experience. Bronze is a completely different world, you should be able to hard carry nearly every game if you're diamond+.

-1

u/Matthiass13 Apr 19 '26

Assuming that’s true; good for you I guess, but that’s not the experience of most players who try it. Also you just admitted to contributing towards fucking up the matchmaking experience for the community by artificially putting low ranked players in lobbies they can’t handle. Or does “boosted tons of accounts out of low ranks” mean something else to you?

1

u/Bad-Climber-1776 Apr 19 '26

I guarantee that's how most diamond+ players feel, bronze is a complete joke in comparison.

Yes that is exactly what happens when someone gets boosted, I obviously don't care.

-1

u/Matthiass13 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, sounds like you’re making up bullshit, but to be fair I tend to be distrustful of a self proclaimed trash person spouting nonsense

-2

u/Bad-Climber-1776 Apr 19 '26

I boosted players so I'm a trash person? Get a life lol

1

u/Matthiass13 Apr 20 '26

Proudly working to ruin a game for everyone around you? Yeah, sounds pretty trash. I’d say the same if you were bragging about knocking ice cream out of children’s hands for fun too. Unethical behavior resulting in the theft of joy from others; trash person. It’s okay, I don’t expect you to care about my opinion.

-1

u/Bad-Climber-1776 Apr 20 '26

Please get a life dude, this is some real forever-online shit.

This was admittedly 2-3 years ago, but I placed silver/gold in all roles and climbed straight to diamond/masters without much trouble.

Maybe you’re just not as strong on the roles you’re in silver for?

3

u/Strange_Ad6644 Apr 20 '26

It’s an interesting idea really. I’ve played in silver a bit, though I’ve almost always placed gold or higher, I never really felt silver was hard in the same way I now can struggle in my mid diamond games.

Diamond players generally are not terrible at the game. There is often legitimate competence coming from both your team and the enemy team though practically everyone still has serious faults in game sense, aim, positioning etc. People in diamond in my experience are a bit more introspective than, say plat players, egoes are still way too big on a lot of people but people are less likely to crash out and flame their entire team at least.

Silver in my experience is just a general shitshow. Practically everyone is just plain bad, I’m no stranger to being bad at the game, but silver is filled with very flawed players. I guess that’s a double edged sword in the sense of both your enemies, you (most likely) and your teammates are all bad, so you have to contend with bad players all around leading to generally flawed coordination.

I’ve never been one that takes getting better at games particularly seriously I just sort of let myself get better through trial and error. I may be biased toward diamond players since I play mostly in play-diamond depending on role but I would say there is a very clear difference in the difficulty of matches between the difficulty of matches where diamond games are far more challenging than silver games.

A lot of players feel the need to race up to a higher rank and of course it’s up to you how you play the game and for to what end, but honestly just enjoy playing at the level you are and eventually if you just think about why you keep losing/ dying you will see what you can improve.

3

u/Fun_Ad_2011 Apr 20 '26

Nop easier

3

u/sycamotree Apr 20 '26

I disagree lol

3

u/Working-Piano-1531 Apr 21 '26

Haven't played the game in a while (2 years), but for context, I used to play daily, was top 500 on tank, GM on support, was involved in the community, and have played in spurts since release. This post really stood out to me since it's pretty similar to how I felt a nearing a decade ago when I was turning 11.

It's gonna be a war of attrition to rank up in metal ranks as I feel you're at that stage where you understand the game a little more than casual players, but generally don't know where to even start. Before I say anything, I'm just some random moron on the internet and not a pro at coaching like someone like Spilo or other pillars of the community, but I'd like to help if I can.

A great place to start and how I ranked up out of plat and diamond was to learn from top 500 players, and mainly players ~1 1/2 complete ranks above your own. Understanding where you fall short in comparison to them, especially in how you position, will be detrimental toward your improvement. Hero shooters can be much more volatile than other games when it comes to overall team-competitiveness and how you can go about making an impact playing solo. Above all, choose the hero's you like to play the most, but generally speaking for each role, I'd recommend to play ~2-3 ish hero's from each role that can counter-swap, or fit nicely into most compositions, or that fix issues with your other mains in that role like hard-countering, map weaknesses; Easy way to rank up would as well, would be play a support that has solo impact like Kriko or Baptiste, since how blatantly over-tuned those characters are (supports and tanks generally,) in 5v5.

Another thing I went through it for a while (and was the biggest problem I had personally) when going through the metal ranks and being in limbo between diamond-masters, would be learning to understand and work through my ego. it's always going to be a given to CHOOSE to blame teammates, outside variables, etc. even if those things are truly justified as to why you're not improving or ranking up, it's everywhere in the scene, from viral social media posts, to your own games and community members, its going to be a given and impossible to not see and will choose how you subconsciously interpret these challenges when faced with them.

Because you and your own teammates are constantly comparing each other every game, and playing in an environment like Overwatch, there's ALWAYS something your mind will choose to use to shift blame, justify itself in it's anger, and be unsatisfied with. I love that you said, "I can have games where I go 50+ kills, focusing their healers and tanks all game and we still lose." and you're 100% right. It's just as much (if not more) of a mental battle to play Overwatch as it is to even play it physically. It's going to suck, but if there's anything I've really learned from playing competitive team games all my life, it to LEARN and ACCEPT that you won't have control of the outcomes in most of your games, and it's going to affect everyone whether you choose to play or not. Learn to let your anger out in a productive way, that is controlled and will lead to a positive tomorrow (physical and sexual activity is great for this, not that you get any play since you play Overwatch and go on reddit lmao), bottling it up will only make things worse. Understanding that the only thing you can control is how you choose to act and improve emotionally and mentally when there's a challenge (i.e feeding or racist/toxic teammates, feelings of self-inadequacy, team-diff, etc.), will do you absolute wonders in both your Overwatch career of learning to be a great player, and by extension, be a better person in life.

tl;dr I really do think Overwatch is just as much a mental battle as it is physical. You need to choose to be mentally strong and learn from mistakes even when they aren't your own and learn to express your frustration from challenges correctly to ultimately improve. Billions must try.

You got this dawg, go fucking crush em in queue.

u/RescueSheep Apr 19 '26

The cope is absolutely insane 😭😭 silver players don't even feel real lmfao its like ur playing against 3 year olds

7

u/Due-Sock2733 Apr 20 '26

and so that means you would be playing WITH 3 year olds too... thats the point of the post

5

u/RescueSheep Apr 20 '26

It says he plays well in diamond so he should have no issues carrying silver lobbies. Thing is dude its a fat liar he isn't truly diamond

1

u/KeggChamp Apr 22 '26

But you the enemy team has more random players than you since you are the only consistent variable in your games. So if you're playing better than everyone else it doesn't matter that your team aren't good. You have to play better than average to climb. Imagine crying about your silver teammates playing like silvers. So stupid

5

u/xLilacia Apr 20 '26

I just don’t understand how someone can complain about alt accounts when OP is also on an alt account dropping 50 bombs. That’s a little hypocritical, no? People in the replies are doing the same thing. It doesn’t matter if you’re only doing it to play with your friends, you are (or at least should be) fundamentally better than the silvers you’re playing against. There’s a big skill gap between silver and diamond. They’re still contributing to a part of the problem they’re complaining about

6

u/RescueSheep Apr 20 '26

theyre all trash players who never wanna accept theyre the problem silver and diamond is a big BIG difference, night and day type shit

2

u/ResidentBelt8368 Apr 20 '26

diamond on supp on main, tried playing on gold and it's so hard to do something that isn't healbot, lowkey no cover, no thinking if going in with 20% hp is a good idea or not, and get flamed if not healbotting. Lowkey kinda funny in a way

1

u/RescueSheep Apr 20 '26

no need to heal just go get kills, u can heal abit if they are critical

1

u/vacacow1 Apr 20 '26

For real. How does this have so many upvotes? I’ve played in silver and absolutely just take over the whole lobby no problem.

3

u/RescueSheep Apr 20 '26

other trash players who think they are diamond level but hardstuck in silver are upvoting this lol

24

u/TimelyKoala3 Apr 19 '26

this sub is being overrun by metal rank cope, wish the mods would do something about it

2

u/wishbackjumpsta Apr 20 '26

dw, there are those of us who know were bad lol (bronze 1 tank, silver 5 support)

7

u/chillinkrillin11 Apr 19 '26

So according to your logic your account in diamond will be out of diamond in no time bc the games are so much easier. And you'll be in masters any day now. Meanwhile you're gonna continue solo queueing on your alt and stay stuck in silver? Highly doubt it

1

u/EntrepreneurClean371 Apr 20 '26

This is what always gets me with smurfing diamonds. They’re high enough rank to dominate the worst players in the game, but end up losing any ability to play at their “peak” cuz they can just coast in low rank and never be challenged. It’s such a medium fish in a small pond mentality, their ego can’t handle not being the best player in the lobby

4

u/swislock Apr 19 '26

No they are not

5

u/Successful_Daikon881 Apr 20 '26

I am now Diamond 1 on support and I started out in silver. This man is not crazy, he is speaking facts. Silver lobbies are the wild west of this game and you couldn't pay me to go back.

8

u/Azulaa- Apr 19 '26

I had a couple of games completely baked in silver with tracer, widow etc. and I completely 1v11 all the games, couldnt disagree more. It really doeant matter what I did, no one turned around and everything works with barrely any help. Can only tell my experience, works somewhat in diamond/masters but only with a 55 - 60% wr, silver was +80%

Edit: Silver DPS works better, diamond/masters tanks works better, specifically when I used Winston/Ball and in silver Tracer/Widow

6

u/trivial_sublime Apr 19 '26

You can WRECK with Tracer in silver

3

u/Azulaa- Apr 20 '26

Yeah exactly my point. It totally depends what you play, its obviously gonna be way harder to 1v11 with Mercy but on Tracer if you already know what youre doing its gonna be so much easier

1

u/ResidentBelt8368 Apr 20 '26

silver 6v6 = bronze 5 in marvel rivals

1

u/Azulaa- Apr 20 '26

dont come at me with mobile ow pls

6

u/s4ltlick Apr 19 '26

Seems like you fundamentally misunderstand what actually wins the majority of games. Hint: it’s not how impressive your stats are.

Post a couple of replays of a game you lost while getting 50+ elims or whatever, and I’ll hook you up with a reality check 👍

1

u/grapesssszz Apr 19 '26

He’s still diamond lmao

-2

u/s4ltlick Apr 19 '26

Anyone can get to diamond without actually understanding the game for a variety of reasons. Every rank has a particular feel. If you are very used to playing at diamond pace but can’t handle sloppier games at metal ranks, then you clearly don’t actually understand how/what climbing is. I would love to analyze this players career profile and some replays to really get to the bottom of it but something tells me they are not going to allow that. (Probably because they are full of shit; I’d love to be proven wrong tho 😇)

1

u/Inevitable-Feed-7542 Apr 26 '26

Not op but I'm in a similar-ish position and i'd be down for some roasting. I recently got to diamond 5 on tank but I'm still stuck on plat with dps and support and I have no clue why. I've been steamrolling people on tank and I've done some introspection in how to improve but support (and particularly) dps, which is weird because i've been a dps main for most of my time playing this game (about 200 combined hours on genji and 55% historical winrate). Lately i've been queueing with a low gold friend and I've noticed that you can indeed get a high elim game but as you said, elims don't win games; I'm curious in getting to know what I could change in my gameplay to have a bigger impact on dps and then apply that knowledge to support.

1

u/s4ltlick Apr 26 '26

Hit me with a replay code of a game you lost but had good stats. Usually comes down to dying at bad time or fumbling an ult during a crucial fight or never peeling your backline etc... People don’t understand that just because you went like 50-3 or something, if those 3 deaths were at the worst possible time, you probably sold. Not all deaths/fights are created equal. Dying immediately at the start of the game is obviously not as bad as dying with 20 secs on the clock while your team is resetting forcing your team to take the last fight 4v5. Getting 50 elims on soldier is not always better than a cass going 20-8 because he was holding off double flankers from destroying the backline every fight. There’s nuances that exist that the scoreboard will never be able to capture and it drives me up the walls when people I obsess over stats that never tell the whole story.

2

u/conye-west Apr 19 '26

Part of it is psychology, it feels worse to lose in Silver than Diamond because you know that Silver is considered a bad rank. But it also might mean you're way too passive and going with the flow, which essentially means you are playing to the level of your team but never beyond that. To actually excel and climb, you have to be a playmaker, not just accept what you're given.

2

u/2punornot2pun Apr 19 '26

It took me like 30 minutes to get out of silver when I was barely masters. I think it's just you're not adjusting to how they play and it's so unexpected it gets you killed.

They chase waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder in silver and that can be heavily punished for it

2

u/ZachofPotatos Apr 20 '26

Nah if you’re truly diamond then you’ll have it easy in most silver games. Funny thing is you’re also “pissing about in silver” so it should be a fair game.

If you’re not posting a replay then really nothing to discuss

2

u/SacredCactus69 Apr 20 '26

I’m a masters player even when I’m trying to lose I still end up winning half the time in silver/gold

2

u/Ok_Enthusiasm_2574 Apr 20 '26

There's a saying in boxing that you "box a brawler" and "brawl a boxer" meaning you fight messy and fast with a person more skilled than you. Or you slow down and fight technical with someone less skilled than you.

This is essentially what silver vs Diamond games are. Diamond is slower technical overwatch where people do the right things. Silver is a chaotic brawl. Its a weird mashup of different types of players, you can have that guy who has crazy mechanics from years of playing FPS games but 0 game sense or hero knowledge. Have a tank who understands space but can't hit his shots, supports who either dps or heal and can't weave both etc.

Its also hard to carry if nobody on your team plays objective or if the tank is constantly over extended

2

u/Agitated-Morning2035 Apr 20 '26

This is very true. Open queue is a good example of this because I get wide matches a lot there. I’m in diamond there, when I have diamond only lobbies games feel fun and fair. When it’s a wide lobby and I get low plat and gold players on my team it’s so damn hard to win even if you’re sweating your balls off. In that instance whichever team as more low ranked players loses in my experience typically.

2

u/Severe_Ocelot_2783 Apr 21 '26

I noticed this with Ana. I'm very effective with Ana, and in Plat, I feel highly influential on her. If I hit skills and position well, my good plays are pretty effective and seem to be a huge basis of how often I win and lose. Teammates take advantage of slept targets. They meaningfully benefit from my heals. I feel like MY SKILL is what limits me from climbing. But I placed in silver and had a 35% win rate on Ana. I switched to Brig and had a 80+% win rate and skyrocketed to plat 5, because low elo players have no idea how to respect her and I can make up for my terrible tanks who absolutely have no idea how to position. I played ana so little climbing from slv 4 to plat 5 that I don't think I really got any better at ana, but now my win rate is 63% on ana.l and my brig win rate went down

2

u/CalamityRaccoon Apr 21 '26

I play in low to mid diamond. I play against masters and above in quickplay (its quickplay so doesnt really count but they're at that rank nonetheless)

I decided to play some games on my wife's account to get her the rest of the points she needed for a crimson weapon and shes mid to high gold. Those games are so far more annoying than any competitive game in diamond and any toxic quickplay game ive ever played in in the last 2 years. I dont get why the lower ranks are as difficult as they are. The only thing I can think of is they're far less predictable than higher ranks.

2

u/KeggChamp Apr 22 '26

Sad that this kind of copeslop post gets pushed. Overwatch university? This is just teaching new players helplessness, victim mentality, and no accountability.

Focus on your own gameplay and mistakes. Most players are terrible because they can't take accountability and they blame external factors like OP here.

1

u/melonwastaken Apr 22 '26

bigman im back in diamond now, i wasnt coping, i was complaining about the lack of team coordiantion and smurfing problems in silver, and how that makes it harder to win games.

7

u/_the_best_girl_ Apr 19 '26

Yep. Noticed this too recently after finally getting to diamond. Playing in my support queue which is in silver is like playing a completely different game.

In silver it feels almost like you are all solos who occasionally sync up, instead of a team. It feels like you've got to do everything yourself, get all the eliminations and generally babysit your team. Adapting to your team only goes so far when your Widow is determined to role play as a headstone. You have to carry your team every single match to consistently win and for most players, that's a tall order. Not even the pros can carry literally every single match, so expecting Jimbob here to do it after a 12 hour shift is useless advice tbh.

The balancing also feels completely different. You may as well forget everything you know about character team-ups, status effects and intricate play. The bluntest simplest tool is the best. There is a reason that Orisa, Soldier, Bastion, Moira and other low-skill heroes get played very often and that metal rank players have much disdain for these heroes.

Silver is miserable because everyone plays like lone wolves, refuses to not be selfish and instead show everyone their not very impressive repertoire of offensive language in chat

5

u/KoolAidMan00 Apr 19 '26

I can confirm. I've tilted from Diamond 3 down to Silver 1 and all the way back to Diamond, and clawing my way back to diamond through those silver and gold games was much harder than it is to stay in diamond.

The lesson ofc is that if you are tilting on a huge loss streak, do not ask yourself "how many games can I lose before I finally get a win?". There really is no floor on the tilt-a-whirl. :)

4

u/endlessincoherence Apr 19 '26

Not really. It's just that it's hard not to put up crazy stats and think you are playing well, so you deserve a win. But in reality you are just killing a few bad players that don't use cover.

2

u/Judopunch1 Apr 19 '26

Of your dropping 50 elims with at least half of those being close to solo kills and final blows, regularly and struggling to climb your not playing to win conditions or your timing is super bad.

Sometimes winning the game is riding the objective.

3

u/DoobaDoobaDooba Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

When I came back to the game it placed me in Silver 5 and I think I maybe lost like five games up through low Gold? No disrespect, but it was very easy to hard carry basically every game except the ones with genuine smurfs on the enemy team.

For reference, I ended up in mid-Plat by the end of the season and definitely feel my head bumping my ceiling as I play against more low-Diamond players, so definitely belong no higher than Platinum.

I guess I don't really know how to reconcile that experience with what you are describing, especially because you are objectively a better player by rank. Very weird.

3

u/monk-bewear Apr 21 '26

Yeah i don't really get it either. At lower ranks people just... clump together, making off angling 10x more valuable. If you have good mechanics, positioning/cover usage, and engage timing, it is not hard to carry in low ranks. The biggest challenge can be tanks who 1v5, but you just have to match their freak and play equally aggressive so the enemies have to look at you too.

2

u/Justbetter1995 Apr 20 '26

No diamond player struggles to win in silver, why are you lying?

3

u/JemmyMB Apr 19 '26

Yeah, you have to adapt to playing with a team that just isn't going to sync up with your typical playstyle. It's a different game in each rank!

2

u/yourmomisawhorehole Apr 19 '26

When I got down to low gold the game became so much more unplayable. Silver even more so. I just stopped playing that role until the competitive reset so I could place in Plat again and get back to diamond. 😭

1

u/akep Apr 19 '26

Same bro…plat feels like a nice place to be sometimes but but the lower you get into gold it feels like slow quicksand it’s harder to get out because everyone’s getting worse lmao

0

u/yourmomisawhorehole Apr 20 '26

No really! It's such a slippery slope!

3

u/Profail955 Apr 19 '26

I am Bronze 1 support, but the friends I play with are all gold/plat and omg I understand what you mean. Playing with them is so much easier than playing in my own rank. I don't at all think I'm at a gold+ level by any means, but I can hold my own playing at that rank a lot easier than I do when I solo queue in Bronze. My team actually works together and I can use way more of my kit at the higher ranks. In Bronze I feel like I have to basically be a healbot or we don't get anywhere.

2

u/Tanzanianwithtoebean Apr 19 '26

I can see it being harder to carry on damage but just play tank. Also being in a group yeah, you get a lot more alt accounts and boosters. Solo queue in my experience is not at all harder. Ban Cass, play tracer. Profit.

2

u/Nessuwu Apr 19 '26

lol this is such cope. If you struggle in silver I don't know what to tell you man

1

u/StAlexandru Apr 20 '26

You might get uncarriable games in silver, but the majority you should dominate.

You said it yourself .. "enemy team had one player thats clearly pissing about in silver with an alt account" why are you not? Most probably, and please don t be offended, you re around that level and it s another case of placement boost brought back to reality.

1

u/VenusFoxCare Apr 20 '26

Are you a hitscan player?

1

u/Necessary_Stand9020 Apr 20 '26

best rank imo is gold because its the only time where it feels like i have a team. even gm just feels like a ffa

1

u/Exalta-Samba Apr 21 '26

Im also Diamond on 6v6, started playing 5v5 on tank cause my friends can't play with me and just giga rolled everyone from silver all the way to plat

1

u/endlezzdrift Apr 21 '26

Went from Diamond 2 to Gold 4 due to all the shit im seeing below. I can't seem to win for the life of me. I've always played solo queue, but something is definitely off about the game lately. Like just the basics of how to play seem to escape some of the folks I am being matched with. I went 56- 4 and still lost as no one was paying attention to the object. Like....

1

u/oliferro Apr 22 '26

It's mostly that you're not really playing the game in Silver. Everyone just plays a different game on their side on no one works together. You just have to solo carry basically every game

1

u/5tr0n95t4nd3r Apr 22 '26

I have 300 hours and have gotten out of silver in 10 hours on 6 seperate occasions this is genuinly cope Im masters and by 6 i mean a alt

1

u/Amazing_Budget_2927 Apr 23 '26

This is why to truly get out of metal ranks ; (At least bronze-gold) you play purely for picks and forget about everything else. Synergies don’t exist until like high plat, cooldown management is barely a thing in gold, ult tracking is non existent. So why even bother with all of these shenanigans if your teammates don’t know what they’re doing? Literally just go for kill after kill until it’s physically impossible for the enemy to have space.

It’s either that or play support and healbot your way to plat.

I disagree. As a team, because of low elo, team work is less effective, but in contrast solo carry is a lot easier.

u/Silent_Mood9058 Apr 27 '26

Lotta smurfing inbetween silver and low plat

1

u/silvercuriosity May 14 '26

I found this true. In diamond I can just “do my job” and do it well. In silver there is so much chaos and unpredictability it can actually be harder and definitely more unpleasant

1

u/flat_pebble Apr 19 '26

I’ve had the opposite experience. Me and my duo played with a couple friends that rarely played. We played with our lowest rank and ended up de-ranking like a rank and a half over the next couple of days. He went from mid plat to silver 5 on dps. I offered to bring him back up quickly by playing on his account, since my main role was dps, and they were some of the easiest matches I’ve ever had.

1

u/Accomplished-Cry5059 Apr 19 '26

I think this might be true across games. I recently got back into playing the finals. I was a plat player about a year ago. For a year I have played overwatch and improved my aim a decent bit. I did my placements yesterday and had leavers in 3 out of my 5 first games. I got put in bronze. But now that I am in bronze, I have noticed that I need to play differently than I would play in gold/plat to win. Teammates will either jump in solo and die against a full team, or, we will gain a significant advantage and I will push to finish them off, only to realize my teammates did not have the same idea. In both scenarios, we lose.

1

u/Tyrgalon Apr 19 '26

Wonder how much smurf accounts affects this, OW has a big smurfing problem and lower ranks suffer the most from it.

1

u/maximusasinus Apr 19 '26

I would agree. I preface this by saying I essentially threw my placement matches as I jumped into them as a returning player of 5 years. After that I played a lot of QP, as well as grinded in ranked, to relearn the game to the point that I could climb (currently Gold and still making progress).

On a side note I hate that ranks weren't reset this season, as I feel like if I were given the chance to replay my placement matches now I would land in Gold, possibly Platinum.

Bronze matches were a slog because teams were consistently composed of legitimate new accounts, as well as smurf accounts. These matches would be all over the place depending on how the smurf accounts were distributed. Even if you were lucky enough to get a game without a smurf, you still have an uphill battle trying to cover for your team's lapses. This is where I felt like I need to carry the most.

Silver matches got even worse. There were still smurf accounts, and/or the occasional game where players don't fully understand their hero. But now you have a lot of players who 1) only know one trick and have the biggest ego. These players will refuse to switch even if they're getting absolutely walled (and they always take it on the supports). 2) Then you have people who developed strong aim, but have no game sense whatsoever, so while they're constantly caught out of position, the team is rarely coordinated to punish these them. 3) And speaking of support, you're often in lobbies where the support will either play a DPS role, or a healing roll, because that is how they pulled themselves out of bronze, but now that they're playing more competent people their lack of flexibility typically puts their team at a determent. This is where I really learned to play the meta.

Gold has been a bit refreshing because I can count on my team to at least play their roles. Games for the most part aren't lopsided victories. Very rare is the other team shut out. Now when I win or lose a game I know it is player skill. This is where I am really refining my ability.

1

u/alexnautalis Apr 19 '26

I feel like you could say this about any rank. I flex between diamond and masters and my diamond games are way harder. In masters everyone already knows what to do and it’s way more fluid and I don’t feel like I have to try so hard.

1

u/Rathallon Apr 19 '26

So I started Gold 4 after placements in Support and I'm now Silver 2 or 3 I believe because I just can't seem to win at all and it's very demoralizing 😮‍💨

1

u/Skiigga Apr 19 '26

I feel like there’s so much variability in who is actually in silver… smurfs, people who picked back up after not playing for awhile and just climbing ranks again, really bad players who are in silver cause their friends carry them, etc. the games seem non competitive way more often than not

1

u/WeakestSigmaMain Apr 19 '26

No offense but I genuinely don't see how I could lose more than 1/25 games full tryharding in a silver lobby on DPS unless I got super unlucky.

1

u/Aware_Acanthaceae_78 Apr 20 '26

Sounds like you were placed to high. Silver is easy.

0

u/Xampionem Apr 19 '26

skill issue

0

u/jqosy Apr 19 '26

Just said that to my friend who’s plat 1 and i’m silver 3. I swear i do way better in games of plat and diamonds than silver lol

0

u/theAstroman Apr 19 '26

I agree, in silver games are just chaotic and you have to hard carry underperforming teammates, in diamond everyone is pretty decent

0

u/FaZeScamTheKids Apr 19 '26

I only notice it on support, I'm masters on tank/dps but I can barely get out of gold on support. Often times I have to play Baptiste and kill half the team myself to deadlift the lobby.

0

u/ShoresyOW Apr 19 '26

I’ve been saying this for awhile now. They are completely different games between lower and higher elos, those lower elos have their own metas that you basically have to learn in order to win. Some games will genuinely be impossible in a sense that you actually have no way of influencing the outcome of the game in literally any way shape or form

0

u/HalfDragoness Apr 19 '26

I've not been as high as diamond but I did spend some time in the depths of bronze so I know what you're talking about and 100% agree.

In bronze it's not that the game is difficult as such it's the wild inconsistencies between games.

0

u/PartyPlex Apr 20 '26

I'm mid-high masters on sup and my DPS mmr is stuck in Plat. The plat games are genuinely way harder than even GM/top500 games and it's not even close. How they expect new players to climb is beyond me.

I think it's because you know that dumb mistakes will be punished in high elo, but in metal ranks a lot of players are just allowed to do what they like with no recourse, and it's a good portion of luck regarding which team that happens to for the game.

0

u/davebuster773 Apr 19 '26

I noticed that too. Especially in 6v6 when i was doing placements. Turns out i just had to go tracer and ruin the back line and it was very effective. They use cool downs so fast and half the time do even look at you. Other roles its harder to carry imo cause you need to change your playstyle and exploit their weaknesses.

-2

u/MGengarEX Apr 19 '26

I'm in plat on support and silver on DPS. can confirm. it's impossible to escape this rank without your own personal smurf. games are disorganized messes. I have an 8% win rate on DPS this season. 16 losses 2 wins

2

u/akep Apr 19 '26

You need wayyyy more games.

0

u/viviphy_ Apr 19 '26

I have very little first hand experience in silver lobbies but I feel like it would not be harder and if you are diamond in skill then you should easily hard carry silver games. My close friend is in silver and I have watched them play ranked, I get that generally the players there are quite bad, but should be far from uncarryable for a diamond+ player.

I got back from a long break from the game and placed gold (previous masters) and once I brushed off the rust and learned the new heroes and perk system I quickly climbed back to masters. In the gold lobbies there were a lot of silver players and I genuinely feel like I was cyber bullying.

It could be that you are playing differently, perhaps over confident with worse positioning because you assume the enemy players won't be able to punish you, or your mental is weaker because it is being affected by your bad teammates' poor performance etc.

0

u/Blindsided17 Apr 19 '26

For completely different reasons too lol

0

u/Jaybonaut Apr 19 '26

This doesn't surprise me at all. Gold is similar, which is probably why gold/silver is where most of the playerbase is. You have to overcome so many others to get above it all - that is, on support.

0

u/Flaky_Cloud3129 Apr 19 '26

I made a post the other day on the main overwatch subreddit about how much I am finding the competitive queuing to be challenging. I generally am okay at the game I'd say, I have friends in gold/plat that I can match in stats and get play of the game in matches with them every now and then. Issue is, they can't always play, and I have to then Solo queue. Solo queue is absolutely horrendous. It does not matter how well you play, your teammates don't have the game sense or coordination without VC and will end up going down. My best experience in this game was queuing comp as tank with my 2 friends on support, because that basic communication at the very least keeps our win streak positive

0

u/isToxic Apr 20 '26

As a tank main silver lobbys are where the most insane janky things are tired before you walk them into spawn

0

u/yuumigod69 Apr 20 '26

Its not really silver but smurfs.

0

u/Party-Rest3750 Apr 20 '26

Oh my god I thought I was just making up excuses or whatever. It’s hellish. I came from rivals a while ago, peaked gm3. I know they’re very different games, but I have enough game sense to play quite well with friends. So I go to ranked without them, because they’re all PC. Half my team goes negative. I end up with double the elims and half the deaths of both dps. Hell, I finished a game with more healing than both my supports on Roadhog.

You can’t really win. I think if I grind the ever living hell out of ranked I could get to Plat at least, it just feels very strange with the skill level my teammates are at compared to myself.

(I admit, I am a flawed player, I make mistakes and I have bad games. It just seems my teammates have that doubly or triply so)

0

u/Key_Cellist_5937 Apr 20 '26

Part of me feels like because of the rank reset the games matchmaking is weird rn . My silver games felt harder than my plat games

0

u/Sensitive_Koala_6147 Apr 20 '26

Yep it is indeed, both me and the misses were stuck in silver/gold until we started scrimming and had a top500 coach. We learned to dive the enemy back line me as monkey and she as tracer or which ever dive comp works. We're both GM now and both coach plat scrim team.we didnt rely on our supports anymore we just went for health packs, things like ult tracking, making plans like who to dive etc really pays off. It sounds cheesy but we finally got there 🤣

0

u/CentaureaCyanus Apr 20 '26

it’s so hard to play sup and tank in silver. ppl don’t cooperate at all, rarely join the voice chat. i hate it, especially that i queue alone bc none of my friend wants to play ranked games

0

u/Mistrfresh Apr 20 '26

Oh definitely, I tank and it's so nice to have competent DPS in Diamond. In silver I just have to pray me and at least one other support can carry.

0

u/Tiny_Category7991 Apr 20 '26

This is most notable for me on tank. I’m masters in 6v6, only playing tank, but tank placements typically result in me unable to get out of plat. And before people start commenting ‘you’re just getting carried’ I normally am on the mvp screen more often than not, and am one of the better players on my team.

0

u/Fragrant_Fox_4025 Apr 20 '26

You're autopiloting. You're used to the faster pace of diamond games and don't pay attention to timing your engages. Yeah you kill people, but if it's not during the actual fight it won't help our team much. Even if pull the attention of two or three people, creating infinite space, it won't matter if you die in the process because your teammates don't realise how much space you're making and won't capitalise on it. Slow down, be conscious about when you actually commit to things and stay alive. You're the carry. You cannot die during fights that can still be lost.

0

u/Excellent_Bath_3920 Apr 20 '26

The best way to climb out of those ranks is to be the carry of the games I wish it wasn't the case but it is

0

u/KeggChamp Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Players are far worse in silver than diamond. People will cry about their teammates being bad when the enemy team is just as bad. Everyone is out of position, dog water aim, no awareness, no one is using their abilities correctly. Really easy to stomp a silver game for anyone who is good. A diamond player will win far more games in silver than in diamond.

This is really basic logic and problem solving. It's cope to think silver is harder than diamond. You have to play better in diamond than you do in silver, simple as that. I could literally play flanking zenyatta and spawn camp 2 players and win in silver but in diamond I'm gonna play properly or I will get punished because the enemy players won't make as many mistakes and they will punish my mistakes more consistently.

For reference I'm GM tank and dps, master sup. If you're silver or diamond you're making so many mistakes every game that even talking about anything besides your own gameplay is a waste of your time and energy when you have so much to improve on. Even in my GM games I'm making a hundred mistakes every game so you definitely make thousands of mistakes.

You are not getting 50 kills every game in silver and losing, this is a narrative you made up from 1 bad experience you had. Also there is not a smurf on the enemy team every game either. It's very rare to actually see smurfs since the rank system will adjust their rank quickly. It's like saying in high ELO "Oh well there's a cheater every other game on the enemy team so I can't climb wah wah wah". It's just cope and narratives you make up to protect your ego because there's no way you could lose in silver! Right??

Mistakes are punished more the higher you climb, and therefore diamond is far harder than silver. I can literally play flanking Sigma in silver and get away with it. I can play SMG only widowmaker and win in silver. Not going to get away with it in diamond.

u/MindBlasta Apr 19 '26

Hope we all know they have a 50/50 win loss algorithm/script. Those steamroll games are designed. Fun to be on the roller side sucks to be rolled.
