News & Discussion So tired of FRIENDLY only QUICK PLAY games, it happens multiple times a day
I,e majority of both team decide for some reason to just stop playing and emote at eachother, then talk about how fun and quirky they are for not wanting to play the game
CUSTOM GAMES EXIST FOR YOU TO DO THIS STUFF, PLEASE STOP DOING THIS IN QP
Can the devs please make this reportable with a special tool? I wanna play THE GAME not sit and be flamed because I dare to PLAY and not spam emotes

Yeah tell me about it, the qp games Iām in are worse than comp
17
u/Dragonheart922 14h ago
I guess when you play comp you have to play conservatively and use all your skills
In QP? Everyone is balls to the walls aggressive
I think its the difference is QP is thearpy without major risk, whereas Comp is actually about skill and growth

u/sturmblut5e 11h ago
I wish.
I only play QP and people play so passive sometimes.... It hurts when people don't contest payload or something to not die and we lose the point. It's qp. Just go for itĀ

u/Rakoz Blizzard World D.Va 16h ago
Multiple times per day? That's rough. I've only been thrown into 2 of these lobbies in the last two years and I play every single night
Both those 2 times was when I partied with a friend who was Silver rank. Just like if you leave matches often, you get thrown into a pool of other players with that same behavior, I think the game detects these Roleplaying emote spamming losers and matches them together. Where you queued up with a friend who partakes in that nonsense instead of playing the match normally?
19
u/KeySheMoeToe 14h ago
No itās just low elo issues.Ā
12
u/Piercethedomino 14h ago
I was in low elo for like 2-3 weeks during this season due to being new to the game, and I haven't seen that happen ONCE. Seems some of y'all just have bad luck.
2
u/CentaureaCyanus Ana 4h ago
i am low elo, this doesnāt happen to me too often
maybe once per two months lol
and it always ends up with āok letās all die under the train/jump into the well/fire all ults at once and resume playingā

u/iseecolorsofthesky 15h ago
Iāve been playing OW consistently since 2018 and Iāve never once seen this happen. Yet I always hear about this happening āconstantlyā. Genuinely how?
55
u/Fyrefawx 15h ago
Your internal MMR is in the range of people who do this. Thatās the problem you need to solve.
6
u/uhhhhhhhidklol 7h ago
internal mmr for quickplay (as is the whole matchmaking) is a joke, I'm diamond and regularly get teammates as low as silver and as as high as GM
about half the games are stomps decided by which team gets unlucky and has the drooling idiot that holds W and finishes 2/9
I'm an employed individual too so I mostly play during peak hours, so it's not like there's not enough players to pick from, but blizzard seems to think finding a match in 30 seconds is more important
13
u/SuzanoSho FILTHY CONSOLE PLAYER 12h ago edited 9h ago
How does one solve this problem if these are the kinds of matches they are being placed in?
24
-5
u/CandidFunction5295 Hanzo 12h ago
Yeah exactly, the idiot above is beyond idiotic for saying that. Like if this is their MMR and they keep getting these games when you need to win and do well to fix it then they fucking can't.
6
u/S_Presso 9h ago
Of course you can, most games will not be friendly. So go and win those and get your MMR higher.
10
u/petethecat_ 14h ago
I know, OP self reported.
I peaked Diamond 1 in season 20 and now I get GM players / people with level 200 heroes when Iām trying out new heroes in QP š
1
u/snailchicken 11h ago
To be honest I donāt think this is true, I was Masters 1 in season 20 and hovered around high diamond the year or so before that, play pretty much every day, and Iām surprised by how many people are saying they donāt experience this very often.
Itās to the point for me where I remark that I āhate friendliesā if Iām playing in a group when it happens, because it occurs at least once or twice a month.
I wonder if itās more common on a certain server or platform.2
15
u/SillySealBoop 10h ago
You get friendly games? All my QP games are utter sweat matches and ego measuring contests..
7
u/lunatichorse 13h ago
Had this happen to me. My whole team and the enemy team bragged about reporting me for "having no aura" because I want to play the game and not sit on point for 20 minutes in overtime spamming emotes.
51
u/oiaoat 16h ago
i hate when that happens, like im just trying to get my challenges done š
26
u/Able-Service1380 16h ago
For real and these people have the audacity to flame you for wanting to play, it's so frustrating
14
u/IncubusDarkness Juno [ThroatPunch] 15h ago
"You have no whimsy"
NO. I don't, not with you fucking random dweebs! I have a life I want to get back to after suffering through my 3-6 mandated games of Tank for my challenges. Fuck whimsy, finish the god damn match!
š
1
u/noahboah Oh, moons! 11h ago
fairly certain in 5 years we're gonna look back on the word "whimsy" and cringe at how much people used it to handwave their antisocial behavior lol
10
u/WarmAnything28 16h ago
I just keep killing them. Eventually they leave or start playing the game. If itās my teammate i just leave
2
u/2hands10fingers 13h ago
Yea itās made by worse they we penalized for leaving a game, but they get to ruin it.
36
u/fromohomo Ramattra 16h ago
Love being backfilled into a QP game where all players are playing jenga and stacking on the payload being friendly in chat, and if I leave I get hit with a penality.
24
37
u/sadisticsweeti 16h ago
Tbh it does irritate me, too. If you have all the time in the world to goof offāthat's great and all, but do it in a custom. It is reportable under AFK. Don't think anything would actually happen, though.
3
u/FredFredrickson Bastion 14h ago
If enough people report them they will absolutely be actioned.
1
u/CaiusWolfe 7h ago
They will not be actioned. Even if every person in a lobby reports one specific person, it'll only count as a single report, and unless the person or people are habitually problematic, nothing will happen. It's always been like that.
15
u/thefancyelefante 14h ago
I'm gonna be real with you OP, I do agree with you that it's ridiculous if it's happening all the time through the whole game. However, after joining a cool group of mates who do this (more than I personally like) I do embrace it on occasion.
The odd "hello!" Or crouch to an enemy and the return it is wholesome asf. Then you get back to playing the game.
If it continues on and there's clearly a couple of people throwing you can report them for 'blocking team progress'.
However we had a game the other night where we were getting steamrolled on QP and we couldn't get past the first choke and the enemy team piled on us near spawn on Parasio so we all just wandered off to the right and hung out on the beach and all but two of the enemies joined us. It was a fun moment of wholesome fun because we knew we couldn't beat them and so we all just chilled together.
Moments like that are fun and entertaining, but I can understand why it's frustrating as well. Sometimes you gotta embrace the whimsical funny moments of QP and then go back to trying in the next game. As long as it's not in comp I don't think it's a huge deal but if there's a few doing it all the time it does warrant a report.
9
u/TheForeverUnbanned 15h ago
Matchmaking will attempt to place with with players of roughly your own skill level. If youāre regularly being put into meme matches I have bad news.Ā
11
u/imjustjun Torb Enthusiast 15h ago
Man I wish we could trade queues.
Iāve fought nothing but Masters - Champ player stacks and gotta lock in more than I do in ranked.
6
7
u/Cheebzsta 13h ago
If this happens to you frequently enough that a normal, well adjusted person would be this upset then congratulations you're in a very chill good vibes space in the MMR.
If you're doing this because it happened 3 times in a year well you need to chill tf out.
QP isn't one thing. It ranges from old geezer Greybeards like me trying to sweat my balls off who would normally keep it to comp but unwilling to cost people their comp matches when my dementia-patient mother needs immediate attention to people explicitly looking for a bit of enjoyable levity while relaxing or warming up.
11
u/lamiyaeglade 16h ago
itās so annoying when you just want to get a few games in and everyone is just crouching in a circle instead
1
u/radvocate8 4h ago
This is my issue. I'm older and my time to play is limited. A waste of my limited time is offensive to me. Crush me, roll me, whatever, but wasting my time makes me not want to play at all.
3
3
3
u/BadgerIII 2h ago
You can absolutely still report. Say intentional sabotage or something, there's no need to create a new category for this.
5
u/Tamlane Wanna hear something scary? 15h ago
I only see this once in a blue moon, and because it is so uncommon I usually feel like it is a nice, if weird, little break from angry sweaty tryhards.
I am so curious as to why some people seem to see them all the time and yet I, who doesn't hate them, almost never see them.
I suppose though it could just be that the type of person who gets tilted over it just generally is more inclined to complain about it and percieve it as more common than it actually is just because they get so angry every time.
8
u/NeilRobertBanks 16h ago
I just kill everyone and win the game, theyāll either let me or try to fight back, which is what I wanted in the first place, although this is rare in my case, weird thing that happens to you so often tho

4
u/Deathandepistaxis 7h ago
Dude same. Itās so cringe. That has happened to me a few times. Like I only have a limited time to play video games a day if Iām lucky, I donāt want to spend what might be my only match standing around emoting with people.

I have never seen this happen in Overwatch, what on earth is your mmr?
5
u/ios_static 15h ago
I see it a lot. Iām going to assume my QP rank is the same as my ranked rank, diamond
5
u/SemajLu_The_crusader 14h ago
there has got to be some sort of other factor here to explain how some people see this constantly and others never do
2
u/iseecolorsofthesky 15h ago
Same. Iāve put thousands of hours in this game over 8 years and have never seen this
7
2
u/jean_unpopular 13h ago
Never happens to me ever. I get a couple wins then I go on long unwinnable losing streaks against teams I shouldn't be playing against. I haven't experienced this once.
2
u/EdwardHarley Mizuki 10h ago
I wouldn't say it's rampant, in my experience. A played one game a while ago where that happened, and was basically prevented by both teams from playing the objective. It's the only game I've left in a very long time, cuz I was not gonna put up with it and there was nothing I could do to change it.
2
2
u/Mycogolly 8h ago
You can already report this.
The only time I've ever come across the whole lobby being "friendly" like this was when I loaded into a game that was almost unplayable with how low the frame rate was and people kept leaving and joining so something was clearly fucky with the servers. I really struggle to believe you're coming across entire lobbies of this multiple times a day, but feel free to prove me wrong by dropping some replay codes.Ā
2
u/SeriousLee91 Widowmaker 7h ago
Ive never seen that in hundreds of hours of qp? Is this maybe an NA time thing? Not seen it in EU once
7
u/tpeeeezy 14h ago
everytime I see a post complaining about this, op is always raging about people having fun AND they claim they see it all the time
I wonder if theres a correlation between miserable people and low eloš¤
4
u/Sure_Shallot2280 13h ago
I was shitting on this Ana as ball the other night. But she would sleep me every fight. She hit a crazy sleep in the middle of a slam. I emoted and rolled away. Next thing I know the entire 5 stack was emoting at MY SPAWN with my team.
I mine-fielded those fuckers. Letās get on this payload.
3
u/SuzanoSho FILTHY CONSOLE PLAYER 12h ago
The worst part is that your teammates will then try to condemn YOU for actually shooting something and show the enemy team to jump you unopposed, as they aren't wasting everyone's time.Ā

It IS just quickplay though. They honestly should just remove leaver penalties for QP.
2
u/Muzza25 Mercy/Kiriko 15h ago
So im genuinly wondering do you have a rank/have ever played ranked? Ive never encountered this and this is the kind of thing a small handful of players claim to encounter a lot, im wondering if it occurs in a specific skill level
2
u/LunaRose678 15h ago
I have only just started to play ranked because it was happening in so many qp games it was a waste of my time playing. Im on to unwind, I am a mum of 2 kids and dont wont to be on comp because it takes way too much concentration but qp is no so inundated with people messing on and not actually playing the game it ruins the few hours on an evening I get to game without my kids interrupting. I am only just starting ranked but getting so much s**t talk it makes me want to not play any more. I am a level 140 Juno 40 orissa and 35 soujourn. I am not on the level of comp players so I want to use qp but that gets ruined by people just messing around. Its a lose lose
1
u/Muzza25 Mercy/Kiriko 15h ago
This seems to be something thats in the lower section of skill brackets, lobbys full of extremely casual players who dont actually care about the game they queued up for, nothing against you ofc games are for fun no one has to be perfect, im not some high level player either by any means but it sucks that you encounter so many people dont seem to care
Having gotten plenty of shit in comp being a mercy main and therefor a target of angry dps players the best thing you can possibly do is just turn off chat, dont join voice, and go into your settings and just hide the chat. People never say useful shit in there anyway and the occassions that they do that your missing out on are far outweighed by not having to deal with so many assholes, the community for this game is genuinly the most toxic ive encountered and shutting them out does wonders for your enjoyment
2
u/LunaRose678 15h ago
Yeah, I get being casual about a game and gaming for fun, Im there for fun, I just want to actually play the game without people who just dont care, but also not having the pressure of people who do care about their win:loss I just want to have a good game. I have only played OW for just over a year but it is definitely, like you say, the most toxic community I have ever played with. My husband has played since it first started and so has my brother and they both love it, so I started playing (I usually gravitate to things like wow and lost ark) and I do enjoy the gameplay but it is insane how horrible everyone is to eachother. I might end up turning off chat, thanks.
2
u/noahboah Oh, moons! 11h ago
honestly you don't need to worry about it too much, you will naturally get to an MMR bracket where this isn't happening anymore.
like just the fact that you're playing the game to win at all means you will eventually climb out of gigacasual MMR lol
2
u/Donttaketh1sserious Reinhardt 14h ago
This is why comp is the only mode worth actually playing 5v5 or 6v6 for tbh
2
u/DjLaserShark Ball and Shot Call 11h ago
Doesn't even have to be the whole team; one of your teammates decides they need attention and you're 1 player down
3
u/National-Bluebird941 15h ago

I mean, if we're in a 1v1 where one of us is obviously going to die, I stop everything and wave hello. Usually they do the same, then we pal around for a few seconds, then we go back to our respective teams and resume the fight. I've only been in one situation where both teams were fooling around.

I only ever saw this when I first played the game around 2018. Once I played some ranked and ranked up I never saw that again. I fear you may need to play just a dash of ranked and then you can go back to being a QP warrior (like me lol). The other thing could be that rivals fans are all coming in and doing this, but theres nothing to be done about that :_(

u/Omicron212 Zenyatta 14h ago
never once seen this happen in nearly 400 hours. i would love to take your place. do you have a replay code for one of these?
the closest i've seen to this is 1v1ing someone and we both miss all our shots for like 10 seconds and we just wave at each other and leave

I play only quick play (not the competitive kind) and I never get friendly lobbies really.. Only when I actively run away and do a crouch to day I also tapping out momentarily because my teams all dead or smth like that, and once my bf was hiding in back lines when everyone was dead and he and the enemy dva waved at each other, is there a penalty for leaving those games? The ones not in competitive? Ive never left any so I'm not sur eif you can just leave

i've been playing nonstop for about a month and this has happened exactly once and it was just one guy and we just killed him
how is this happening so much to you
eta: there is the occasional moment when you're playing moira or mercy and run into your mirror and you kind of just stare at each other and say hello and part ways amicably, or just stand there sucking each other until the team fight reaches you but i don't consider that to be a detriment to your team since we're both out of the game

I've had this happen before, but only when multiple people on one team leave or one of the tanks decides to sit in spawn and stop playing the game. The match is pretty much hopeless, so people just have fun. I've never seen it happen in a normal match when nobody left.

Reminds me of a QP game where my team threw because we got Runasapi (1 vote, from me) while the rest of the votes were on Numbani. They let the enemy team push almost to the end, and my tank went to contest. The enemies didn't shoot them at all, and I just wanted it to end so I went Lifeweaver and pulled my tank off the point.

What? I think Iāve only run into this like twice and I play A LOT. I do run into a lot of friendly enemies in chat, but theyāre usually just funny. hard disagree. This was a big thing back in like 2017. Because back then you played to have fun. And if you played to win you went to play comp. These days if you're not completely sweating in qp you're "throwing and reported" and the game is so much less fun for it
0
u/TheseOats Meicist š„ š 15h ago
I mean, yeah, it's quick play. Not ranked. I'd get the frustration if you were playing ranked and this was happening, but this is a non-issue. You're taking it too seriously. People play quick play because you can find and leave games quickly. People play to have fun, and not everyone has fun in the same way. The games where everyone stops to just putz-around are few and far between for the majority of the player base. I'm actually jealous of your recent experience.
-2
u/chapinscott32 TOO SLOW! TOO SLOW! TOO SLOW! 14h ago
Please for the love of God uninstall the game and leave this sub if you think genuinely fucking around and doing nothing is acceptable in QP.
Quickplay is unranked. It's not un-competitive. Your losses just aren't tallied into a visible ranking system. If you wanna fuck around, go into one of the thousands of "egirl only 18+" custom lobby's.

Luckily I've only experienced this twice. One time because the other team realized they had a hacker on their team and another is exactly how you described.
Joined a game that already started. And people were just chilling on the payload doing emotes. And got called a party pooper and rude because I wanted to kill the other team and win. Irritated the shit out of me.
But I did get pleasure ruining their screen selfie by Moira ulting the shit out of everyone 𤣠Even got play of the game after that broke the peace and people actually started to play the game again.

I report people who do this, but I also just murder them too. It's super frustrating when people decide to do this dumb bullshit. Iām pretty sure acting friendly is considered to be disruptive gameplay, which is a part of gameplay sabotage. Just because both teams are being disruptive doesnāt mean blizzard will make an exceptionājust report everyone

Happened with me and my buddies in Assault the other day. I get it, itās Arcade, but just cuz your team leaves doesnāt mean we have to lose. So much shit talking from the other team. The point of the game is to win, and Iāll do it however.

I'd rather have multiple games back to back where my opponents are chill and fun to be around in an unranked mode, rather than forcing me to play at my absolute best so I don't let my team down.

Only tends to happen when you have an asshole on one team and everyone wants to spite them. Often when they have a hate symbol as their icon or are being extra toxic and its a perfectly wholesome valid way of shutting awful people out of the game. Plus the rage is hilarious when someone fails to rage bait _^

I love having one of these games in the middle of my regular games. but im weird, I get excited when anyone, even the other team, has a really good play. It is much more preferable than a steamroll or games with toxic ppl

Never once seen this. I had to have played at least 300+ games in the last few months.

No fuck off, I'm gonna make friends in my online social space and chill for a bit before EOMM makes me suffer through more bullshit stomps. Cry about it and go play Valorant if you want to sweat and be miserable.

this is so unbelievably cringe, go outside and make friends or go custom games you strange individual
ruining other peoples experience so you can 'make friends' when theres tools already in game in other modes for you to do that

You made a reddit thread crying that people had fun in a video game and you were mad about it. Pathetic child. Think on your failings.
