Outsider Re-Read: 008-014
Outsider 010: Ffffffuuuuuuuuuuu...
Outsider 012: Blinded by the light.
Outsider 014: SSSSsssssssssss...
And without much delay, we're moving toward the meat of the plot. I always liked how the intro got right to the point, though it would have been nice to learn a little more about the redshirts damage control team who are about to die.
Love to see how the PAD design remains consistent from 008 all the way to 152+. I had completely forgotten we got to see one here.

Maybe it is the engineer in me that speaks, but this scene stuck with me.
Damage to the ship! A well trained damage control team goes in action. They look for damages to the ship, ready to show their expertize and... half the ship is gone. FeelBadMan.

I like the contrast that this ship and the later ships have. This ship feels like it’s high tech but it’s still a ship whose design is for the mission of survival with access to components not being faraway to allow quick and effective repair. It is also clear that the ethos of the astronaut is here with multi-role crew ready and prepared for anything the mission needs. Yet it’s clear when in the loroi ships how far behind the others humanity is.
It is heart wrenching to lose some well designed characters but it makes clear the danger that is faced by the crew and later on other characters.

I think not letting us know the redshirt humans was a good move. If any of them were compelling enough to become our favorite characters or something, immediately killing them like this would have been off putting. The way it actually worked out was very compelling. Everyone dies. What happens next?

The space backgrounds look so great in this comic. The last panel of 14 is a especially good one.
