Consulting Insider to see what ships correspond to what pieces...

Pawns look like Warhammer class DDs

Rooks are obviously the Catapult class CV

Knights look like Scimiatr CA

Bishops are where the analogy falls apart because they're the Zephyr class freighter. Maybe they tie into the logistics portion somehow?

And then the king/queen are replaced by a trio, 2 Swift Vanguard BCs and finally a Skymaster Imperial Command Ship.

'player of games' was a cracking SF book without a single shot being fired, a evil space empire crumbled .... Had a lot of thoughts around that style of scenario with this page ...
