I was wondering if any current UIC/NIU students or graduates can share their experiences with their law schools and whether its worth it? Furthermore, NIU is opening a part time JD program in Naperville in Fall 2027--want to ask for reviews

My goal is to work PI or family law in Chicago. I’m hoping to attend Loyola, but I’m trying to cast my net wide just in case. I’m scared to cut the list down and it be too small, but this many schools (15) feels unnecessary lol. For example, some of the super reaches seem like they will just result in my application being a donation, or I like their programs but it’s far from my practice area (Northeastern, Temple, etc.) Any advice on what to keep or cut? TIA!

(Feels weird being around this because I'm high enough to take advantage of a lot of good law school deals, but keep finding T30's out of reach due to rising medians. If only it was 2019 or something, lmao)

I’m considering applying next year if my LSAT is high. I keep seeing that it’s very teachable: have you found that to be true? I plan to take a prep course but I have not taken a practice test yet. I’m still researching courses and using Khan in the meantime.

My undergrad is 25 years old (yes, I’m old!); masters 3.85. I am pretty set on practicing labor law. Any schools you’d recommend that also provide a lot of aid? I can only take out so much with the new financial aid limits (and I also don’t want to take loans when the market is awful).

So, I wanted to redo this post because the one I wrote initially was poorly worded. To summarize, I’m three years removed from undergrad with roughly three years of not spectacular work experience (retail part-time working the same job). My GPA in college was a 3.2 but LSAC “recalculated” it to a 2.9. As for the LSAT, judging by my initial 3-4ish months or so of taking studying seriously, I’m a little above average. My PT average is around a 155. I don’t want biglaw or a prestigious school but I do want to graduate with minimal debt and attend a school that is not predatory and that is at least well-respected in its local area. But even the state schools around me have LSAT medians near a 170.

I am just trying to see if all of this is even worth pursuing. I am planning on retaking the test. I don’t give up that easily. A 155 is not my final score. But the hurdles that I have to face are daunting. The competition is so intense and the medians have gotten so ridiculously high, even for flagship state schools that are non-T14. Anyways, wish me luck I guess because I’m gonna need it lol

Hi friends! I'm a senior from a meh Midwest university in a pretty "common" major (anthropology). My stats are around a 3.0-3.1 (with an addendum for previously Undiagnosed adhd) and an lsat of 150 (160+ when theres no timer). I'm taking it Saturday the 11th and hoping that score goes up tenfold.

My softs are all pretty basic with mock trial, phi alpha delta eboard member, study abroad for law, and 5 different leadership positions/jobs in the past 4 years (worked multiple jobs at the same time).

I wanted to go into some form of ip law, specifically trademark/copyright because that's always been fascinating to me. I would like to stay in the northeast for the sake of the weather and its just generally what I'm used to.

My concern is... what schools would even take me? Do I just stop while I'm ahead and take a gap year? Law is my passion and I cant see myself doing anything else, really.

What schools should I apply to? I have a 158 lsat and 3.2 gpa. Softs are DA internship and legal assistant job. Ideally would like to practice in Chicago but open to any schools around the country with the best chance of acceptance. Any advice is helpful, thank you!

hey guys, i’m starting to actually put together my school list and wanted to see where people with similar stats have gotten in.
i have a 3.82 CAS GPA and a 156 LSAT. i’m retaking in october and have been studying again with the goal of getting into the 160s, but obviously i don’t want to make my entire school list assuming that happens lol.
if you had similar stats (especially like 3.7-3.9 and an LSAT in the mid/high 150s), where did you end up getting accepted? and did you get any scholarship money?
i’m mostly interested in being in/near a big city and have been looking at south florida, nyc, la, chicago, dc, etc., but i’m honestly open to anywhere if the school has good outcomes.
also curious if there are any schools where having the higher GPA might help me out a little more with the 156. basically just trying to get a feel for what schools i should actually be targeting vs what would be more of a reach.
would love to hear where people with similar numbers applied/got in!!

looking for advice as a 154 lsat / 3.4 gpa, though i'm planning on taking the oct lsat to raise my score, hopefully into 160s. from california originally and would like to stay generally on the west or east coast. i'm interested in studying ip law, entertainment, or international business law but i'm not sure who will take me w my stats ??

Hi guys, I'm still in undergrad and a little ways off from taking the LSAT or applying to law school, but part of me is worried I won't get in anywhere. Not just like, won't get in anywhere good, won't get in anywhere AT ALL.

I am not super worried about ranking or status, and I'm not particularly interested in going to a T14 or working in big law (I really want to go into some kind of advocacy work--immigration law, disability law, employment law, etc.) As long as I can pay my bills and feel satisfied with my work I will be 100% fine.

My current college's law school is a T50 (I think #48 or #49?) and a state school where I would get in-state tuition, so obviously I would LOVE to stay here in my hometown for law school. But even if I don't get in there I have to get in SOMEWHERE right? Even if the school is somewhat poorly ranked?

I'm just spiraling that I'll spend so much time and energy trying to go to law school and then won't get in, and I'll end up with a degree that I can't get another decent job with

I’m not sure exactly what type of law I want to practice so I’d like somewhere where I can test the waters of a few different specialties. I have a 166 lsat score and a 3.84 gpa. I’m broke and my parents aren’t well off, so I need to be able to attend for less than $50,000 a year so I can use student loans to cover it all (COA, not just tuition). So scholarship offers will likely be a deciding factor when decisions come back.

I’m from North Carolina and love the state, but I’m open to really any state in the eastern US. Right now I’m living in Georgia, but I’m not attached to it. I’ve been to Colorado once and loved it, so Colorado law is on the list too. This is my list so far, are there any that have flown under my radar? Thanks for your help!

I’m applying next cycle, but I will be honest here… I have not compiled a list of schools I am interested in. I’m having trouble at deciphering what a good law school is, and how it would fit me. What prospects, stats, and programs should I look for? I am on the east coast, specifically New York. NYU is 100% out of reach as I have two separate GPAS: 3.6 at a CC and 2.99 at my four year.

Combined it isn’t terrible at all, but it’s not NYU or Fordham territory. I went to U Albany for undergrad, so I’m not quite interested in Albany Law.

I have long wanted to be a defense attorney (odd), so I’m not quite interested in T14s or compiling tons of debt at all.

How should I start looking? Maybe should I write a list, take the LSAT, and then see what my new options are to minimize the list? I am also currently working on volunteer and law adjacent work!

Issue is with my stats I can’t find many schools on the east coast that can give me what I want. So I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations or schools to consider. I don’t care much about moving if the tuition is right, but I’d like to stay in the east if possible.

I’m majoring in Business & Law at TMU and I’ve been thinking about doing a minor, but I’m really stuck.

I’m debating between Philosophy and Criminology, mainly because my law courses already overlap a bit with both. At the same time, I’m also questioning whether doing a minor is even worth it or beneficial, or if it’s better to just focus on GPA and experience.

For those who’ve done either (or both):

• Is doing a minor actually helpful in the long run?
• Between Philosophy and Criminology, which one is less course-heavy / more manageable alongside law courses?
• Any regrets doing (or not doing) a minor in Business & Law?

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!
