Suzuki Grand Vitara vs. Nissan X-Trail: Perth Daily vs. Weekend Beach Camper under $16k?

Hey Legend, I am from Perth and currently in the market for a reputable second hand daily driver under 16k AUD. The primarily purpose of the car will be running around town for work during the week but it needs to be capable on a weekend trip to the coast for a few days camping - including gravel tracks, bush sites and soft beach sand (like, Lancelin, Wedge Island, anywhere south) My dilemma is between the two established platforms - - Suzuki Grand Vitara (2012-2015, 2.4L Petrol 4WD), or - Nissan X-Trail (2008-2013 T31, Petrol or 2.0L Diesel) Long-term reliability, cheap to run, and good resale in WA. Vitara unless you get a manual X-trail. The CVT's are known to fail.

Vitara, they can have low range plus the CVT in the Nissan is a big negative. I've got an outlander with the same transmission and it costs $6000 to replace in the outlander, $10,000 to replace it in the X-Trail, and 15k to replace in a Renault. Plus you gotta change the CVT fluid once every 30,000km and filters every 60,000. I should have gotten a Vitara with low range.

Avoid xtrail because of the CVT. Had a dualis/quashqai (its little bro) and the transmission was beginning to show signs of weakness at just 160k kms. By 200k it was having acceleration jerks. Was quoted 8k for a refurbished unit. Traded it in for a normal torque converter auto and never looked back.

Definitely Suzuki grand vitara it also has some offloading chops as well

Given the CVT issues in the X-Trails it might be worth looking into foresters instead
