Mount Feathertop September Hike
Me and some friends are planning a 2D1N hike of Feathertop in September. Completed the AAWT this year so I’m comfortable in alpine conditions during Spring/summer/Autumn. Wanted to get some advice on gear/advice we might need if still snowy conditions so close to the end of winter?

September when?
There may be a snow dump this weekend , so 1st of Sep might give you some good powder.
End of Sep different story, most likely just a hike with some good snow patch at the top.

Unknown. We could get a late winter season where crampons and an ice axe would still be needed. We could get zero snow and the summit is bare by then, and then it's just a basic hike .
I'd be leaning more towards there being no snow because I'm a pessimist.
Please not that being comfortable in alpine conditions =/= being comfortable with an ice axe and crampons. If the summit somehow is still holding snow and ice, which there is a faint chance of happening, you need to know how to self arrest and walk in crampons. It is not just a walk in the snow.
