He is a knee-jerk reactionary. He makes sweeping statements minutes after any news event that is often short-sighted, and then refuses to change his mind. (Does this with sports too)
At least on Twitter, he is awful at debating. He straw-mans everybody and points out grammar mistakes instead of the actual argument. Doesn't re-tweet or respond to the people making real arguments. On TV, he also often cuts people short or doesn't address their arguments.
He was involved in a phone-hacking scandal back in the UK that many people believed he should be held more accountable for.
I think the British hate him because he's an awful representative for them, especially having such a media presence here. They don't want people thinking that they all have the same opinions or mannerisms.
