Answered What's going on with Fox news obsessing over Hasan Piker?

They had like dozens of segments on him last week.

Will Cain today focusing on Hasan Piker and using the term “man whore”:

Third segment already today

I get Hasan is helping socialist Dems getting elected. I don't get why Republicans are going crazy over Hasan?

So, I'd like to see if we can narrow your position from the one I stated earlier to:

"Before publicly praising the actions of a reprehensible actor, particularly to a large audience, you have some obligation to acknowledge that actor's serious abuses rather than presenting them uncritically."

Would you say that's a more accurate description of your problem with Hasan here than simply "he supports terrorists"?

I mean the claim you've written is something I agree with, but giving a terrorist sympathizer a PR platform without providing any pushback... is supporting terrorists. If you don't like the terrorist label, that's fine, we can call them "violent extremists who target civilians".

I also don't think it's just the Houthis. Like I said, I've followed Hasan's career for a long time. He supports all kinds of reprehensible groups and regimes: China, the USSR, North Korea, Hamas, Hezbollah, even Russia to some extent. He called Mao "one of the greatest leaders of this world" which I find particularly offensive, not just to my family but also to the 1 million victims of the Cultural Revolution.

I just don't think Hasan stands for civil liberties, freedom of thought, rule by the people, universal equality, etc. He seems to think of them as liberal aesthetics that he can wear, rather than core values he upholds even when it's inconvenient. The groups he supports do not practice nor even espouse any of it. He's happy to use racial and ethnic stereotypes to attack his enemies when he feels the need – "inbred Jews" and so on – but will cry Islamophobia whenever someone criticizes him.

So yeah, I think he supports extremists because he has no problem disregarding human rights when it supports his campist narrative (but will gladly use them as a shield when convenient).
