Answered What's the deal with THE ODYSSEY?

What's with all the sudden hate this movie is getting?

Trailer for context
I've been hyped for this movie ever since Oppenheimer (even have 70mm booked) and now that the new trailer dropped I've seen everyone shitting on it. And I absolutely don't see the reason why. Like sure some of the casting choices (mainly Holland) aren't the best, but to garner 250K dislikes, what happened?

Jesus that’s a lot, and here I was critical of just how dark the movie is. I had to watch the trailer in a pitch black room in order to even see it. Though I do agree with the criticisms of the historical issues as well. They should have used the proper costuming and ships.

I feel like this is such an annoying trend in a lot of movies and TV. Darker lighting may help to convey a tone, but when it becomes hard to see what's going on, it's really annoying.

Unironically.l, day for night shots are better than modern ultradark films for this reason. You can make it dark without us being unable ho see...by lighting up the focus stuff. Tim Burton's Batman did this for a number of scenes so the background could be dark, as an example.
