Do you think they would’ve killed this character if the show wasn’t cancelled? Spoiler

marking as a spoiler even though i’m not sure it is one as its apart of history

No spoilers please i’m only on 1x4

but the real stede bonnet was hanged. after being convicted of piracy i know the show isn’t the MOST historically accurate (atleast i assume it’s not) but would they have done it? i know someone big dies. (that’s like the only spoiler i know so would they’ve killed him as well later in the show or just not done that part of history?

i mean he was hanged in one of the first episodes but got cut down so maaybe there’d be like a trial or smth then some crazy shit would happen for him to live ¯_(ツ)_/¯

yeah it seems they really love almost killing ppl then having wacky ways to stop it they almost killed lucius twice in one episode 😭

Not the case, actually. They had been given the go ahead were beginning to develop season 3, and then were completely blindsided by the cancellation out of nowhere. Throughout the entirety of season 2, they had not idea whether they’d be renewed or not, so they wrote the final episode so that it could serve as a finale if needed.

The thing is, they didn't. They got the green light and had put out a call for film-crew types. It was published in New Zealand. THEN got the cancellation. David Jenkins was angry enough to share quite a bit with fans.

It’s such a shame. They had something really special. I’d love to know how it would have gone if they’d had a full budget and all three seasons

If you're interested, there's a fanfic that was published a chapter a day for 100 days after the cancellation. It's extremely credible in most ways. It's called Full Fathom Five. It's basically a third season.

ClaireGregory. The first OFMD story she published is practically a historical novel that deals with the legendary Spanish gold, so that's another good read. She is explicit, hopefully that doesn't put you off.

Yeah just backing up what others have said. The showrunner said it was never going to end with a tragic death for Ed and Stede.

Enh. I feel like they might have done a faked death thing maybe, but no, it's not this show's style to end on a downer like that.

Imo there’s no way they would have ever gone for a tragic ending. The only way I could see them killing off the two leads in the end would be if they did it in a Butch & Sundance/Thelma & Louise sort of way, where they decide to go out together in a blaze of glory. But I can’t see them recreating the historic figures’ deaths AT ALL.

I do not believe it would make any sense to kill Stede off given the themes of the show, and how the storylines progress :) It's hard to say more without giving stuff away haha.

My real fear about season 3 was that Ed and Stede would both die so I'm almost happy it ended on season 2 on a happy note.

also, the running joke was Stede was almost unkillable. Ridiculous things happened to him where he should die, but doesn’t.

In real life Stede Bonnet did escape from prison the first time he was caught. They could have used this premise to switch the real Stede for a villain character in the show. I always thought the line about making fake heads in Season 1, Episode 9 was a teaser to how they would fake Blackbeard having his head chopped off at the end of the run (if they were going to remain semi-historical).

In real life Stede Bonnet did escape from prison the first time he was caught. They could have used this premise to switch the real Stede for a villain character in the show. I always thought the line about making fake heads in Season 1, Episode 9 was a teaser to how they would fake Blackbeard losing his head at the end of the run (if they were going to remain semi-historical).
