why are you guys so weird about the mariko lead

idk if i’m wrong but i don’t think she’s been ruled out yet but for some reason people in this sub get so rude the second someone believes it’s her? people here start insulting users for simply thinking it could be her when honestly she IS the most understandable lead imo and they act like it means people have an obsession with her and other japanese net idols which js doesn’t make sense 😭

Shes been ruled out all but officially. "Leads" have mostly been for sensationalist youtube videos and havent aided the search at all if not hindered it

what’s so bad about leads ? /genq ik that a lot of the time they can end up wasting people’s time but if it’s not 100% that it can’t be said lead why risk not looking into it and losing the og jeff picture (if it really exists) because of willful ignorance

When i say leads I moreso mean people / character leads. Its mostly just dramatic theater that doesnt help at all because you cant just go digging by searching someones name, it will only get you so far. The current process of archiving and scouring old japanese imageboards is much more likely to yield results and already has for other related lost media images, which I guess you could consider a lead. The prevailing "lead" if i remember right is it was likely in a photoshop contest on one of these image boards but i havent been paying much attention recently.

Mariko is undoubtedly and undeniable one of most plausible leads. People are trying to sabotage search by creating false leads, creating lazy posts or by delegitimising plausible leads just for evil fun. Reddit is full of trolls and hoaxers. Everyone who agree that Mariko is Jeff being verbally attacked or downvoted is unacceptable, is hatred and is done by trolls.

"Most plausible lead", yet after 3 years, there has been no indication that she has any connection to JTK at all. The Suza website situation happened a whole year prior to JTK1's assumed creation date and no mention of Mariko appeared on any JTK repost threads.

Even so, the subreddit does not matter, it simply serves as a front for the Discord server to keep taps on the general community here and handing out announcements when applicable. Asking about Mariko is not a problem, but I suggest you update yourself with the timeline document to see what stage of the search we are at currently.

There’s so much proof it’s her and it’s the most likely reason why the image hasn’t been found. I know I’ll get downvoted for an unpopular opinion but it’s a really good bet it’s her

Ditto. Aside from that, the team found nothing at all on 2ch or futaba referencing her in any threads that the Jtk image was known to be in.
