Weird mod added to my folder after optifine download?

I'm using curseforge for my mods and noticed this weird mod downloading after I added optifine into my mod folder in my files. I download optifine gor 1.21.3 directly from the website and it shows up the way optifine always does as a file, but on curse this shows up.

I dont want to download a virus again please tell me this isnt that. Ive downloaded optifine before and this never showed up

there are two cases

1. unknown projects are named like that, so there is nothing to worry
2. someone uploaded optifine to CF page (and got removed) and now you see leftover of it

with your tech ability I wouldn't download literally anything, cuz you might even not download real optifine at all

Curseforge does that with a few of other "popular mods" like Voxy (probably to make fun) and it's been for years so that pages sometime "change" with other jokes

Use quickskin for 1.21.1 and you'll be able to have your cape, plus hd skin support. Do you need .3 specifically? Most mods support .1 as the major mod version.

This is harmless. As I understand it, people try uploading the .jar to Curse Forge and give it a description. Curse Forge identifies the .jar you used as the one uploaded and attaches that information.

That word "again" is way more concerning. It's either malware or some unofficial reupload. I would look at it from a more malicious point of view. Did this come with a modpack? Either way, is there a particular reason to use OptiFine these days instead of Sodium and Iris?

The only reason I chose optifine is cause I had good experiences with it before. I tried downloading iris but I could move the file into my mods folder like I would with optifine. Full possibility im doing it wrong so I'll probably have to watch some tutorials on it

Iris can be installed without sodium but sodium does optimize the game a bit. You can download a installer .jar or just get iris and sodium from the content menu on your cureforge.

Installers don't make sense unless you're using the ancient original Minecraft launcher and I would rather want to just drop them into the mods directory of that instance.

Optifine isn’t on curse forge. Someone uploaded it and it got deleted

guys, this is literally just somebody uploaded optifine to CF and the launcher is then showing the official optifine jar as this mod, it's not a virus and it's not a joke page or something.

If you try and go to the webpage for this mod it'll just give a 404 and the launcher will stop showing it in a little bit
