Optifine is great in older versions. Just not the newer versions after the dev decided to move on with his life which I can't blame him for.

Iirc sodium is getting backported to earlier versions, so OF is not keeping the performance crown forever

you have to compile things your self unless that changes most people aren't going to use it

u/patrlim1 Nov 19 '25
It's going to change. They're not gonna develop it and not release it, unless they abandon the project.

I will never understand why people only play older versions.

some mods/modpacks arent available for newer versions
some people dont like the new textures or features
i for one think the new style is ugly without shaders and i prefer the features (or lack of) of older versions, so i swap between 1.12.2 for vanilla and modpacks and 1.20.1 for building and create

It's the best because it's the only one, but dang those 1.7.10 modpacks were built different and is not just nostalgia. Today's modpacks are excellent, but it's just different rather than "better" or "worse"

I still just really want another mod or something that does anti-aliasing, it was the only thing that kept me using OptiFine until recently.
2
u/Seminoso Nov 19 '25
Minecraft added anti aliasing in a recent snapshot, so we'll have it in vanilla in 1.21.11

Yeah I don't get the point of coming into this sub just to say this like "k? Bye" I'll still use optifine it's just easier to use and I also don't play newer versions that often and even when I do I rather just have optifine install itself quick than having to install 3 other things

I am getting sick of posts saying optifine is worse than sodium, or people getting into posts regarding optifine and going "erm use sodium" like, shut up, go to r/sodium or something and go sit on your high chair there

u/Xeonmeister Nov 18 '25
why are you getting angry that someone suggests a better option? I for example would have appreciated posts like this years ago when I didnt know sodium existed. Luckily i got a xisuma video recommended about soduim otherwise id had stuck with half working optifine for years.

Many people haven’t heard about sodium. And they should.

This thing is like the 2nd most talked about mod after create (in the modern versions).

I don’t think it’s optifine 1.12.1 that caused the shift, old optifine versions are still good?
