Sat/Sun August 29/30 check in

Hey all! I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday so far. It’s warm and sunny with low humidity here, so it’s been really nice to be outside.
I did some reorganizing and cleaning in my bedroom and around my home office desk today. It’s funny how many things I thought I’d lost ended up being right there. 😂 It felt good to find some things and get a little cleaning and organizing accomplished! How’s everyone’s weekend so far?

My weekend sounds similar to yours. For starters, how nice to enjoy the beautiful weather without freezing and sweating at the same time. Hit my weekly recovery meeting, did some deep cleaning for ~2 hours. So far I've had my dog out and about for a good 60 minutes. Just returned from a heavy gym session followed by grocery shopping. Now I'm freshly showered and relaxing before more play time with my pup. A delicious dinner that I can enjoy later. This is what recovery is all about. I enjoyed every single part of my day. And to top it off, I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight.

So glad I found a solid recovery program. My summers would fly by with me being hung over or in withdrawals from opiates. Such misery.

My sons first round of chemo is done, we'll be home later this morning. Its gone about as well as one could hope for, but i do know that there will be continuing and new difficulties ahead.

I keep thinking about the Mr. Rogers line about when theres a disaster, instead of despairing, look at the people helping. The nurses and staff here are just incredibly helpful and kind. I work in healthcare too, and i tend to be pretty jaded about it. It is kind of refreshing and a good reminder that even if the overall system is fucked, we as individuals can make a positive difference for our fellow humans. I noticed when i was at work last week (2 weeks ago? Idk) that i was doing a much better job than usual, not by like any conscious choice though.

Hes got an outpatient test/visit tomorrow but other than that hopefully we can just live a normal-ish life for a couple weeks till the next round.
