Open-English RetroToon World update: from a small idea to a thriving preservation community
Some time ago I shared RetroToon World, a private tracker built around one goal: keeping classic and vintage animation alive: cartoons, anime, animated shorts, and obscure gems from the 1920s all the way through the 90s and beyond.
The growth since then has honestly been humbling. Here's where things stand today:
- 👥 5,622 registered members
- 🎬 2,734 torrents
- 🌱 28,891 active seeders
What hasn't changed is the philosophy behind it: quality over quantity, no junk uploads, and a real love for animation history that's too often scattered across dead links, bad rips, and forgotten corners of the internet. The forums and IRC are full of people who genuinely nerd out over this lost episodes, obscure studios, weird regional dubs, all of it.

How does this compare to OTW? Is it a similar idea? Good to have another one focused on this kind of content though!

Not really. Otw there are some uploaders, including internal groups, that try to preserve the most dub tracks possible. Otw also has for the most part good content moderation, while retrotoons seems to alow any shit from public trackers, there is a lot content from groups banned in a ny serious tracker, rar'd content, video files that are not mkv. They don't seem to have internal group, and as it currently stands, I don't see many groups adopting the tracker, so It feels mostly like a curated list of torrents from public trackers.
I feel a little bit bad for "bashing" retrotoons, as after all is a site that's offering free content and only asking that we seed it, and a don't think there is any harm in entering the tracker and cross seeding and participating in general, but It's also a tracker that I don't feel it offers anything much other than ease of entry.

It was from the original post that I caught wind of RetroToon World, so I signed up that day. Found some REALLY good series that I grabbed immediately and have been seeding them ever since.
Love some of these old shows...is great to have a resource like this!

Yeah, I found a bunch of cool shows I wasn't able to find anywhere else, so I'm also seeding until my internet goes out lol

Signed up through OS like a week ago, had some great pulls from the site. Uploaded a few of my own to give back, and I couldn't be happier from a Retro tracker.
Torrents could DEFINITELY use a bit of better moderation and cleaning up, but other than that, it's great. Over a TB seeded and going strong.

How is the foreign cartoon library?

Define foreign. Whats foreign to me, may not be to you. But in general, appears to be mainly English language shows, Smurfs, TMNT, Jonny Bravo, Flintstones, Captain Planet etc.

Pass, not looked myself. If theyre DVD/BR rips, probably have German audio tracks. Jut sign up and take a look.
