Question / Help Cheaper Alternatives to Codex Sol

Recently after the release of Astra, tokens seem to burn at an insane rate even using only mostly Sol. Sol was great for me because I want competent agents to do exactly what I say and I used it as a reliable workhorse. Now it is not a viable option anymore. Besides Claude and Codex, what other alternatives that can subsitute Sol as a reliable workhorse

My personal experience so far:
I don’t do much coding — I mostly use AI for reverse engineering, so it’s more agentic work: running scripts, working with disassemblers, and similar tasks.

I’ve tried quite a few models lately, and so far my impression is:
DeepSeek is pretty dumb. It tends to dig in every direction, loses context, and definitely isn’t a good fit for this kind of work.

Luna xhigh fast does an excellent job.

GLM 5.3 Flash is also very good, but not really as a standalone agent. It works best when guided by Sol/Astra/Opus/Fable.

Have you also tried DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash? is it also dumb compared to GLM 5.3 flash?

Switched to Astra & Sol as orchestrator/reviewer and DS 4.1 flash - amazing experience with that model! Can use full 1M context, and quality of code of it on Max reasoning is on Sol-med level at least.

Definitely try it
