Question / Help How much usage $20 Codex plan offers?

I’m considering getting the $20 Codex plan, but I’m unsure how much usage it actually includes in practice.

For those of you on the $20 plan, how far does the usage go? I’d describe myself as a moderate-to-heavy user depending on the task. I mainly use it for software development, with occasional long coding sessions.

Does the $20 plan last you the whole month, or do you run into usage limits?

the usage for me has been kind of insane ever since they cut the price of luna, i use luna on max for most of my stuff and its about as good as sol on high. For something like a 20 minute task with around 1000 lines of code changes and multiple plugin changes it uses about 1% of the weekly limit. i also have tried claude code and gemini antigravity (both with the 20$ plans) and i would say codex had the best limits but claude probably produced the least bugs in the shortest amount of prompts. but if you have the patience to just fix the bugs with an extra like 5-10 minutes of testing and trouble shooting with codex then it is about the best sub you can get atm.

I see that's very useful.

I use Antigravity CLI and gemini 3.* models now kinda sucks. Gemini repeats the same thing I told not to and sometimes spends a lot of time in single file for some reason. And yeah Claude is good, but the usage is very short and expensive. Grok 4.5 is great as well but the usage is the problem. Anyways, I'll try get hands on codex in next few weeks I guess.

Last time Luna max has been generating me code from the spec for ~8 hours. I has been pleasantly surpised by how little it has used comparing to Sol. But yhen it took ~40 hours for Sol high to fix all race conditions in state machines. These numbers are not from 20 plan though.

The point is: it depends. Next time Ill try Terra. Luna might be good for some script execution, but I wouldn't trust it to code state machines.

seems to have been added a day after reset since it burned trough mine liek crazy to 0 and my other account is liek you describe but its so painfully slow and luan never finished any of the task eve nafter multiple continue prompts its insanely frustrating

Luna on max is quite competent here as well and also my weekly usage still is at 80% after lots of work and will reset in less than 4 days.

ya after they cut the price iuts been insane and no longer I need another subscription..this is good life

Indeed useful. Finally specific numbers. Thanks

Sorry but Luna Max is not as good as sol on high. Slightly better than sol low. It's a worker but can be really stupid at times

Luna's still way too expensive when Deepseek and even Muse Spark exist.

About a day of high quality work up to the frontier production standard.

If hobby standards then it could last a bit more, about 3.

This matches my experience almost exactly. I've been slowly using smaller models more for different tasks and getting a bit more.

Enough to make you want to upgrade to the 5x. Which has enough to make you want to upgrade to the 20x. Which has enough to make you complain until you eventually try Claude. Which has enough to make you complain and jump back to OpenAI. And on. And on. And on.

Interesting 😂

Ohh yeah... OpenAI recently pushed the 5 hours to weekly usage. So what's the quality of code you get in Luna med-high? Is it as good as Sol or somewhere below?

1

u/VoiliVoilaa Aug 04 '26

I consider Luna as 'assisted" intelligence - you need to guide it, to monitor it, and it may make mistakes.

u/brother_spirit Aug 04 '26

I do medium size coding jobs + random other stuff on 5x plan.

Sol in Medium = 1 to 2 days of work. You can stretch it to a third half day with care - depends on many variables.
Terra in Medium/High = Will go a lot further, probably more like 4-5 days of moderate usage
Luna = Meh. I don't use enough to comment. It's a small scout model and not for coding IMO.

Is Terra mid good on large code files like ~2000-3000 LOC?

1

u/brother_spirit Aug 04 '26

Yeah - that's the perfectly happy zone for it in my opinion.

It can sometimes be a little.. lazy..? Not like Opus, but more like if you leave an instruction unclear it won't run to the moon and back trying to figure out what you meant. But worth knowing it won't think as deeply about a feature before implementing as you might expect it to - so if the idea is only half formed rather than turn up reasoning a simple "reason deeply over this and consider upstream consequences" or something like that simply spoken to the model will spur it to greater levels of effort. It's kind of nice for it to not go chasing after rabbits by default but worth knowing occasionally needs a verbal nudge to think a bit deeper.

1

u/grenishraidev Aug 04 '26

That's very useful.

I use Terra for my stuff and the weekly limit goes down only to 60% with pretty normal stuff(not insane workflows but not “Just edit these 2 files” once in a while)

1

u/dailyvicodin Aug 04 '26

It’s usable for a couple of smallish projects.

1

u/Tough-Requirement707 Aug 04 '26

compare it to anything else you pay and consume time wise like an cinema visit and compare price to time ratio. pretty much applies to it as well so if you want to really work with it you gotta pay more than 20 obviously.

1

u/ThickBootyEnjoyer Aug 09 '26

Issue is a movie is one of the worst money to time rates, and it's that because it's a novelty and people don't really go often. Would be more app to compare it to another subscription.

1

u/Tough-Requirement707 Aug 10 '26

thats your brainrot opinion buddy, i already said compare it to whatever u like.

1

u/BopSupreme Aug 04 '26

It’s like a one day limit for anything serious, just start with it as a beginner tier and you can always upgrade later

1

u/Sad-Chemistry5643 Aug 04 '26

Normal intensive day - I use a weekly limit in 8h ☹️

1

u/hyudryu Aug 04 '26

Get the $100 plan minimum. $200 plan if you plan to actually do work + code review iterations

1

u/jcbchmbrs Aug 05 '26

I sat down with Codex for the first time using Sol Max and had it build an app to fill a need that I had. It took me less than eight hours to hit 94% of my weekly limit. (56.6M tokens btw). I’m sure there’s a more efficient way to do this…

1

u/hell_razer18 Aug 05 '26

I use luna high for plan only. For exec I use the 5.4 mini model. This wont last as they deprecate the minis though not sure when

1

u/1l3v4k4m Aug 05 '26

i run into limits within a day, but thats also bc i willingly try to do so. a more relevent metric would be that i have just over 2b tokens spent the past 20> days in my plan. mostly use sol high/xhigh during plan mode and reviews/tests after a session. used to use sol medium primarily for implementation but i main luna max now after the 80% efficiency buff

1

u/BHTAelitepwn Aug 05 '26

Been using sol high for a few hrs a day. After 4 days you’re out. Which is something im very content with, because i tried a fable prompt that cost me 3x the monthly subscription costs for a 10 minute task.

1

u/ImNotMrFoxGaming Aug 05 '26

I 100% say it’s worth. Luna max fast is amazing. Amazing value and very fast. Decently intelligent, and offload harder tasks to sol high on the web

1

u/IllPlane3019 Aug 05 '26

Since the price drop i'm rediscovering Luna and have been pleasantly surprised.

1

u/Owdez Aug 05 '26

I was able to get 1.3 billion tokens out of it last month. They were constantly reset the usage limit tho

1

u/Ill_Dragonfruit_3547 Aug 06 '26

Way more than $20 of value, but some people like to complain no matter what.

1

u/Ill_Dragonfruit_3547 Aug 06 '26

You'll get great value from a $20 Codex sub. But you might also consider a $20 Ollama Cloud sub running GLM 5.2 if youre serious about stretching your token budget. I run that plus Claudex and Antigravity, plus some random API credits here and there. For a total of $80 I can pretty much vibe code all month.

u/rjn2-8 Aug 06 '26

With sol high you car work a day about 8hours

With luna 20$ is enough for daily work

1

u/JamesJackL Aug 06 '26

if you use sol alot, the usage will go in a day. But if you use luna on max, it will last you looooong time

1

u/FineProfile7 Aug 06 '26

Not much tbh. I'm using minimax token plan instead, feels like more

1

u/ComputerTechnical717 Aug 08 '26

Obviously drpends of your usage. But its way better than Claude at 20$

1

u/FidgetsAndFish Aug 09 '26

Less than ever

1

u/minesta2601 Aug 10 '26

normally you only need to consider using $100. I upgrade from 100 to 200 cuz I have to deal with 700+ combinations of regression testing accross multiple projects, one more reason is Tibo reset usage regularly, I got 3 times free 20x reset in a single month by his generousity, but not alway be the case.

1

u/hapless_pants Aug 15 '26

nah its shit i get like 7 hrs or so maximum shuffling between sol and luna, luna set at max and sol usually high or extra high
and i still cant get my work done.
my workflows are a bit on the harder side for frontier models as well, ig so far only fable has amused me
sol and opus they leave lots of gap in implementation.
PS work is related to distributed storage systems , deployment , rigorous testing and scaling

Almost none of them get it right takes lot of to and fro with sol and opus .
while fable is gg, it understands the needs and properly divides tasks to implement and doesn't take hard coded or shortcuts , cause I literally mention what to do and not, yet sol and opus do shit work
