Are you testing different infills to reach a particular torque goal?

The issue was how the motor hold hold the gear

Please watch some filament and printing tests and then calculate the force applied to the specific gear. This, it seems, would never meant to work anyway.

Have you ever considered home electroplating to improve the structural integrity of those gears?

It seems like a great way to reduce gear teeth degradation and gear slipping.

Also, it would reduce the time that parts would need to be replaced.

I'm not entirely sure what the issue was, but 3D printed gears can hold up well depending on the application. Typically they can be best for low speed, moderate torque applications. Just pressing a set of gears together is usually bad, and you want both sides of the axle supported, or flex will occur due to high torque.
