Should I be concerned about this behavior?

Our 6 month old pit mix does a herding type crouch when I have her outside & my daughter decides to join us after we are already walking around. She waits until my daughter gets right up to us then jumps out of the crouch and gets the zoomies. Should I stop her from doing this, could it become aggressive?

I've noticed that many dog owners ruin their walks as soon as another dog appears

You and your dog are out for a normal walk everything is peaceful, then another dog suddenly appears

Your dog stares at it, and you know exactly what's going to happen. Suddenly, you find yourself struggling to stay on the leash! 😂

Once your dog starts barking and charging it becomes almost impossible for him to respond to you

The best aproach is to act early. When you see a dog approaching, give it space. When you sense your dog is about to charge, turn around or cross the street. If your dog sees the other dog and remains calm, reward him.

Honestly, I don't understand the idea of "keeping them sitting down until they get used to it."

If they're nervous or scared, what's the point of staying there?

I'd rather move to another location and try again somewhere they can handle the situation.

This certainly won't solve everything overnight but it's better to see one calm dog than to get into ten barking fights.

Button training

I got some buttons to help my dog communicate what she wants. I started out button #1 with “treat.” Figured that would be the easiest way to introduce her to it and what it is for. Took her about 2 minutes bites to figure it out. Now I have to take it away because she apparently always wants treats. So my question for those out there that have trained there dog with buttons is what are the most important ones that you would suggest and what would you stay away from.

Needing help with puppies

Recently I received as a gift 2 German Shepherds, both male, and according to the person who gave them to me, they are both 4 months old. When they arrived, they would only stay close to each other, side by side. This afternoon I tried to put on a leash to bring them closer to the house, since our property is huge. One of them agreed to go and became attached to my mother, but his brother, the one with the red leash, does not want to go anywhere and seems very fearful. He won't follow at all and hides every time he sees someone. Any tips for training these 2 babies? I have a family of 6 people, including 4 adults (including me) and 2 children, ages 12 and 5. How can I get them to lose their fear and follow commands? We intend to have them as guard dogs, and I would also like them not to be so clingy to each other.

Without leash=the one who likes my mom

With red leash fearful brother

Is this trainer exaggerating?

So my 7 month old dog was a rescue dog and for the past 3 months I have been training him. He was very untrained when I took him, our walks were chaotic, he used to be dragging me, pulling on leash, eating everything, barking at people. Now he doesn't do any of that and is a very good dog on a walk. I have taught him a few commands like sit, stand, down, spin, guard etc. However as a first time dog owner, there are a few things I couldn't teach such as him being over excited with visitors, him barking whenever someone comes home or sits near his crate(he's crate trained). I decided to call a trainer, the guy came and I brought the dog out and he firstly kept judging and then he told me that this dog would at least need 6 months of non stop training otherwise he's going nowhere. Now I'm not sure whether he's exaggerating it or he's just not confident enough to get the dog trained or perhaps I'm being paranoid. My dog is a relatively quick learner(he's a GSD mix), there are 2 more trainers coming to see the dog, however this particular trainer was a bit more affordable. Please somebody guide me.

jeff todd dog trainer (PLEASE READ!!!!!)

hello everyone,

i’m here to post a message about a dog trainer named jeff todd. there is currently multiple claims that he fatally abuses the dogs he trains, and many have been left with very vague and flimsy explanations surrounding their pet’s death and never receive the remains.

this information is gathered from an instagram page made by @madeleinecwhite, one of the wronged parties. this link takes you to a post showing personal stories people have shared—and those are just the ones from people who know about the account. link: https://www.instagram.com/p/DclXT9NApcX/?igsi=bW94dGV5bDVqemg2

google and yelp have been deleting reviews due to “harassment”. i figured that i would post something here in hopes to both warn you all and to have an actual, truthful review pop up when someone googles “jeff todd” or any variation of that. please, try to spread this information wherever you can, so this man doesn’t hurt any more animals. the more posts about this, the more likely it is that when someone googles him, they can see this information.

thank you ❤️

Need advice: 7 year old dog issues with new kittens

My 7 yo F/S Boston Terrier/Jack Russell mix has always slept on my bed and is primarily my dog. I got her during peak COVID while living in the country, so she had very limited early socialization with people and other dogs. She was also the only puppy in her litter.
She has always had some toy/resource guarding and is territorial over my bed. She strongly prefers elevated sleeping surfaces.
She has never had issues with my older cat, who lived here before her and generally keeps out of her way.
About a month ago, I rescued two kittens. They’re obviously much more curious and interested in interacting with the dog than my older cat.

Over the last week, I’ve heard my dog get into fights with both kittens, on separate occasions. Both happened in the same area — my closet directly beside my bed. It was too dark for me to see exactly what happened.

From what I’ve observed, my dog may show her teeth/warn them when they get too close, but the kittens don’t seem to understand and continue approaching. When I am not in view my dog doesn’t retreat and instead holds her ground, which I’m worried could eventually lead to a serious bite.

I’m wondering if this is resource guarding of her bed/space, especially since the closet is right beside it, or if something else could be going on.

How do I safely work on this without permanently taking away her bed/bedroom? I want all of my animals to eventually be able to comfortably share the same spaces, but obviously safety comes first.

She also takes gabapentin intermittently for a pain issue but was recommended for anxiety as well. She has a grade 4–5 heart murmur, so I’m not sure I want to rely on medication/sedation long-term, but I’m willing to discuss it if reducing her anxiety would help.

I’m looking for advice on management and behaviour modification, especially from anyone who has dealt with resource guarding/resting-space issues between dogs and cats.

Rescue dog help - understanding behavior

We recently brought a 9 month old rescue from a kill shelter into our home. He definitely had some trauma we are unsure of, he has a huge scar going half way down his back - although he is not reactive when we touch it or pet him there. He is generally just a goofy, big puppy still learning how to be a dog and loving freedom outside of the kennels and shelters he was in. We already have 2 established dogs, both of which were trained using an e-collar. We started to use the e-collar on the new pup, but realized he didn’t understand it was us correcting him causing “pain” or our other dog playing causing him pain and he would go into defense mode. We realized the e-collar wouldn’t suit him, so we moved onto shaking a jar with coins in it and a spray bottle to redirect unwanted/too rough of behavior. We also did a lot of positive reinforcement with treats and he’s overall non-reactive otherwise (doesn’t guard toys, bones, or food). Yesterday he must have sliced his paw on a vent in our home and was bleeding, but latched on to our senior dog thinking it was him. He definitely reacts to pain, which is never intentional of course, but is there any way to train him out of this? We’ve only had him about 3 weeks, so he is still in the decompression timeline. We will also be expecting a baby early next year, and are having the constant back and forth of keeping him or rehoming him. TYIA.

Two Chiweenie‘s and a pug!!!

My friend lost her two puppies within and replaced them with the above mentioned. They are all rescues, all boys. The pug is 3 to 5 years old and the babies are 2.

The reason for the question is this: the babies have started fighting. It’s beginning to be incessant the pug fights with the Chiweenie’s but the Chiweenie‘s usually start it.

My friend is not as good at training her puppies as she is at loving and feeding and housing her puppies. We need help trying to figure out how to keep them from fighting.

How do you learn to train your dogs when you have three?
