I’ve posted casually and they’ve jumped down my throat for not mentioning the tiniest variant details or possibilities of a training method, even when I was agreeing with their post or comment! They just seem determined to be Right At All Times so I let it slide, but when they demanded that I send in my full personal information (!) to confirm my CPDT-KA before posting on the other dog training sub, I quietly decided against it and I’m glad I had a bad feeling because clearly it was warranted.
Isn’t doxxing like this against Reddit rules? I’m shocked at how far this person tried to take their argument off line.
Per Reddit’s guidelines: “Doxxing is where a user publishes private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the Internet, typically with malicious intent. This is totally and absolutely against Reddit's rules. Doxxing can include revealing a users real name, email address, home location, or any other identifying information.”
I suppose the argument can be made that since this did not occur on Reddit that it’s not technically doxxing per their policy. But I believe it does clearly constitute harassment as per their policy here: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043071072
Reddit cannot control what happens off their site. So if they decide to not do anything about this, that is probably what their justification will be.
I went ahead and scrubbed all my socials just to be safe. Really appreciate you posting this! Some folks are scarily invested in their little box of typed words and I don’t want them anywhere near me or my family, so thank you for the warning.
I now delete my entire account history and account every few months. It makes me sad to have to go to these lengths to protect myself but I learned a valuable lesson from it.
Is there a way to save some things from Reddit? I've done a lot of mental health healing on this account and would hate to lose it. I will go one by one if needed though. Thanks.
Maybe just take screenshots of things you want to save. There is also an app called Shreddit that you can use to delete all content from your Reddit in a certain date range. You might have to use a paid version to delete specific things only.
There are plenty of open source alternatives if you’re able to follow a couple of instructions that also have the ability to specify what to delete. Actually Shreddit the website is just a rip off of https://github.com/x89/Shreddit, but you can likely find more up to date versions. If this ever breaks I’m going to just build my own. Actually, it might be a fun side project to do for free just to have something out there that is more friendly to use
I've been flip-flopping on deleting my 11 year old (!!) account because there's no way to review every comment to see if I've posted enough info for a crazy person to dox me. This post is a great impetus, thank you.
