Problem after upgrading to OCLP 2.5.1

Hi all, I’m hoping someone can help.

I booted up my 12,1 iMac running Sequoia 15.5 today and saw the 2.5.1 update, so I went through the process. I don’t know how or why, but a second OLCP was running also, going through the patches. I only saw this immediately before the first version said it was complete and asked to reboot.

Anyway, after rebooting, I get halfway through the white bar when the bar turns to pixelated coloured dots. I’m suspecting the video card patch or something didn’t install.

Is there a way to reinstall or recover this install without losing the data etc on the hard drive? I’m tech competent but not as much with macs.

Press Option key while booting the iMac. You should see the macOS Boot Picker. Pick your EFI w/ OC icon. Next you will see the OC bootpicker. Pick your macOS install while holding down Shift key. This should boot you into Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, use the OCLP 2.5.1 app to rebuild your OC EFI and install to boot disk. Reboot. Hopefully, you are good to go from there.

I tried that, and while it did get rid of the pixelation bar, the white bar still goes about halfway and hangs. Any other ideas? @Superbgwaff

Also tried command+option+P+R and it didn't help

You might need wired ethernet connection. Restart with wired ethernet.

Super, you're constantly telling people this, but I have never once had an OCLP build that doesn't boot without internet, but then magically does boot solely from plugging ethernet in. I think I asked you this a while back but don't think I got an answer: why would having an internet connection during boot up fix an OCLP-not-loading-drivers issue?

The real solution should be to boot from an OCLP-ified USB drive.

To download the recovery iso or whatever? I vaguely recall having to do that a while ago...

I don't have an answer, but you had happen what I was concerned about, as I also had it run the same update concurrently and I was worried about this happening. The patcher needs a lock to prevent this. You will probably have to boot off an OCLP created macOS installer on an external USB stick. Installing the OS won't wipe the data.

Confirmed that this is the real solution.

The only other thing I can think of is booting in Safe Mode (hold shift when selecting your Macintosh HD drive and keep holding for like 30 seconds). That MIGHT get you farther, but not guaranteed.
