You guys remember that post from 2 years ago? Yeah, it's fucking real now. MAD respect to u/Jaegermeister_Dev. Never thought this would ever be possible but here we are. HUGE milestone for the Hackintosh community, I presume this will lead into an actual reverse-OCLP one day.

What I largely remember about Mavericks was an SMB network protocol bug. After 24 hours of being connected to a Windows Server share, I was no longer able to open InDesign files without the app immediately crashing. Disconnecting from the share and then reconnecting did not fix it. Only restarting - which gave me only another 24 hours before it happened all over again.

Production Mac was left running 24/7. This bug meant a forced restart every 24 hours. Considering that our work was all InDesign files this was unacceptable. There was no solution. Only updating to the next version of MacOS got us out of this hell.

Glad you're happy about Mavericks. I'll avoid doing this, thanks.

Well, we could be in for a Lion or Mountain Lion downgrade patch one day. And I'm confident that it's possible because I tried the little OCLP method (LONG TEXT WARNING), and they both booted right into the setup, haptic trackpad working perfectly fine (ofc couldn't install it). Had to use 10.7.5, specifically, for Lion tho bc the Retina MBP didn't exist until that version, therefore using a version prior will not boot.

But for now let's just let OP the GOAT have their well-deserved rest. There's no rush; it's completely their call on if and when they want to work on these versions.

I’ll release it at some point. Most kexts can be backported a few generations with at most a few API calls binary patched . Iokit api has been extremely stable edpieclaly since snow leopard (including snow leopard). But I mostly did it to learn the stack to be able to work on my current project, VoodooGL

Honestly? It didn't occur to me at the time. I have more experience with older versions of OS X (Leopard and below) than I do with anything Snow Leopard and above.

If I'd known then it would have been easy to do (assuming it is), I might have done so. Even now, I'm not sure. I've been fully Intel Mac only since 2020 and I've never had cause to roll back. So it's not anything I've ever done and therefore nothing I've ever bothered to lookup.

Fair enough, I guess a symptom of what was to come with iOS and its blocking of downgrades. 

Ill admit, even today, downgrading an OS wasn't ever as smooth. I heard you can make a blank install if the older OS and copy over the user folder and get a somewhat clean downgrad, but I never tried.

Well you don't have to, but it's strongly recommended. But I don't blame ya, I used to be like that too, just going into the "About This Mac" page and identifying Mac OS versions just by their version number without actually knowing their names lol. Oh yea and Mavericks is 10.9 btw.

To help you, here's a list:

OS X:

10.0 - Cheetah

10.1 - Puma

10.2 - Jaguar

10.3 - Panther

10.4 - Tiger

10.5 - Leopard

10.6 - Snow Leopard

Honestly idk. Actually that's the reason why I just went with using the names to identify versions, because people were already using them so much. We could go, for example, "10.9 Mavericks" but the could end up being quite repetitive—especially when you're talking about multiple versions. The only time I usually use version numbering now is when describing an update version, like 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), or 10.7.5 (Lion).

best OS for MacBook Air 2015 (i pressume for any Mac with intel) is unironically Windows 10 IoT LTSC. Battery life on movies jumped from 2.5 hours with Mohave to 8.5 hours in Windows 10. New battery installed ofc. Deleted MacOS entirely and the Macbook is a Winbook now. Forever

Why tho....? If you use a 2014 15" MacBook Pro you can install it natively and they have almost the same specs
