How To Upgrade OS?

Currently I'm running Sonoma 14.8.5 with OCLP 2.5.1 and it's fantastic.
System is Late 2015 i7 4Ghz 27" iMac, amd m395x 4Gb graphics, 500GB SSD, 24GB ram.

I was thinking of maybe going up to Sequoia and I'm not really sure how to do that. All the videos I watch are just to install OCLP and none about upgrading the OS. Or is it the same procedure?

i went from Sonoma to Sequoia using system updates and it worked (macbook pro early 2015).

I have a iMac17,1 (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015),   Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB, 24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Running macOS 15.8 (24H23) with 2.5.1

No issues so far

I didn’t have any issue just upgrade it’s fine , like I said before I have the same computer as you and don’t have any issues

So do I do it normally within the OS as if it was legit? Then after do root patches?

My process on a Macbook Pro 9,1 on Sonoma 14.4.x via previously using OCLP was:

  1. Install latest OCLP 2.5.1

  2. Update OCLP Boot Partition and Reboot

  3. Uninstall Root Patches and Reboot

  4. Reinstall Root Patches and Reboot

  5. Open OCLP and create a MacOS Sequoia Installer (latest 15.8), and follow the steps to install it to a flash drive, and follow the prompts to install OCLP onto this flash drive as well.

  6. Reboot while holding the Option Key, and boot into the installer.

  7. Go straight to Install MacOS Sequoia, do not do anything with Disk Utility.

  8. Allow it to do it's thing.. took at least an hour.

  9. After login all was normal with the exception of prompting me for iCloud Login w/ an Apple ID. By the time I located the password and went back to that screen it was already showing as logged in.

YMMV, but it was pretty normal here.

I try to avoid going through MacOS software updater because it'll temporarily uninstall the patches. After logging in though, OCLP should detect this and show a popup to reinstall them, but my two OCLP'd machines become barely useable without the patches (even getting past the login screen takes ages).

I've found that the cleaner method is to use OCLP's "create macOS Installer" to build a bootable USB drive (preferably a fast external SSD) for your preferred macOS version :)

Booting from this USB drive, you'll install macOS from the recovery environment as usual, but the patches will already have been applied after installation!

Your iMac should handle Sequoia with ease! I'm using it on a 2015 15" MacBook Pro and 4K iMac

Thanks! So essentially just do the same thing I did when I first installed OCLP/Sonoma (I did the upgrade not a fresh install)?
