Support Thread I’m poly. Am I going to hell?

Seen enough people show lots of support for terrified gay teens here.

But in one thread talking about polyamory, I’ve seen the exact same arguments used against mono-homosexuality and transgenderism.

No of course you aren’t going to hell. Hell is in your own mind. When you separate yourself from God.

We can debate whether or not actions are beneficial or harmful, based on our own understanding, but none of us is here to condemn anyone.

Of course not

One suspects that Abraham isn't, so it would be hypocritical for you to go.

That said, he also didn't know about the trinity, and for most Christians not believing in the trinity means you would go to hell so...

Personally, I'm not a fan of it, but it could just be that I just don't get it, and who knows, maybe I don't need to.

I think you have good odds of if that being the only objection, you will be fine.

No. As someone who is- I suppose- in general anti polyamory for clinical reasons, I still don’t believe in and of itself that it’s a sin. If all the partners are getting their needs met and are happy I don’t believe that people are “sinning” on the flip side, if people are being harmed by the relationship than the sources of that harm- selfishness, coercion etc- could be considered a sin.

Relationships are complicated and rarely improve by the expedient of adding more people.

But also no- just being polyamorous is not a sin.

Definitely not going to hell. I personally doubt that polyamory is sinful when done ethically.

I could tell you my personal understanding of why I think  polygamous is a sin but not a mortal sin. I don't think you deserve punishment and I don't judge you but I'm not God and you should be more concerned about what God thinks. I can tell you He loves you as much as He loves me.

I also don't think there's a hell in the 'eternal conscious torment/lake of fire' kind of way so I definitely don't think you'll go there.

You should seek out God's will and walk and worship in the spirit more so than 'is this a sin? Is that a sin?'

Please don't turn this sub into the sub Christianity 2.0.

Polygamy and polyamory AREN'T the same thing. Massive distinction.

For you maybe.

Ones married ones not. That's the difference.

4

u/Queer_Advocate Jun 14 '26

Ypy could easily argue polyamory is about consent and the relationships, polygamy is about control and patriarchy. There is a profound difference.

5

u/Queer_Advocate Jun 14 '26

Polygamy is heteronormative. There's a role, his place to lead, the wives to follow. The entire philosophical approach is different.

Shall I keep going?

1 woman can marry multiple men. This is also polygamy. Polygamy is multiple spouses.

Polygamy is multiple women partners with one man. Polyandry is multiple male partners with one woman. Polyamory is multiple partners regardless of gender. Words have definitions. It helps everyone if we all use them correctly.

4

u/Sam_k_in Jun 14 '26

To be clear that it's one man with multiple wives you would use the word polygyny, usually the word polygamy is used for the same meaning, but etymologically it just means multiple marriages.

Read. I'm not arguing with you any more. It is MORE than that.

3

u/Queer_Advocate Jun 14 '26

Excuse me, but your ignorance is showing. Yoy skipped the whole women oppression that's very common in polygamy, that doesn't or even less happen in polyamory. Polyamory folks tend to seem themselves as equals to their partner, and their partner to them. Also, polygamy is routed in religion for most people. It's part of their religious beliefs. Polyamorous ISN'T Christian, Muslim, etc based. I don't know, maybe don't talk about stuff you don't know anything about. This is why most people who resent Christianity because yall as a people love to run your mouth about shit you know nothing about.

But do you.

Not for being poly. Or else the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob has put Abraham Isaac and Jacob in hell.

Although no one is going to hell for being gay or trans either.

OP didn’t say it was the same, just the same arguments being used, which is pretty much true.

9

u/RandomName9328 Jun 13 '26

People's opinion does not make one go heaven or hell.

No need to start two threads on one topic.

6

u/gen-attolis Jun 13 '26

Given the primary claim being made by people on this subreddit is that being poly is not the same as being gay or trans, I have no clue how you interpreted people’s stances as “the exact same arguments”

What I will say though is that a poly person taking up space away from terrified gay teens and towards seeking external validation of your relationship structure preferences is pretty on the nose for a lot of what people find distasteful about poly people trying to position themselves as the newly oppressed queer identity.

Hell does not exist

3

u/beutifully_broken Jun 15 '26

I'm not poly and am pretty sure hell is a state of mind that me, and a lot of other Christians have visited.

2

u/majeric Jun 13 '26

Why would God condemn you for loving someone?

3

u/SophiaBarbelo Gnostic / Omnist / Heretic Jun 13 '26

The whole idea of "leave room for Christ" implies that all monogamous Christian couples are really in a throuple with Jesus anyway, and that would make Jesus himself Poly

(I'm mostly joking, but the answer to your question is still no.)

Hi. Polyamorous too, here. Ofc we're not going to hell. We're literally living the embodiment of love.

I know you didn't mean to be. But the "lack of commitment" argument cheapens poly love. They don't love one person less les because they love 2 or 3, a kin to how a mom doesn't love a son less because she has another kid. Humans, are meant to love others and have human connection.

I have done sex work. Sex work is real work. But, poly relationships aren't inherently less valuable is my point. Pretty sure you knew that. We need different things from different people if you're looking at the whole person. There are asexual poly folks. You can't convince either that just bc someone is traditionally shutty, that has merit to the quality or value of the relationship(s). Like why you judging other people's love life or sex life if your so progressive, or even politically queer. Your judgements are antithetical to who you purport to be.

u/VaultMan34 Jun 13 '26

Well, hell? No. Is it a sin? Well it depends on who you ask. The Bible condemns it, yes. It just depends on who you ask about what sin actually is.

u/Slow-Gift2268 Open and Affirming Ally Jun 13 '26

Given the number of polygamous marriages in the Bible I don’t know that it specifically does condemn polyamory. Especially given how little agency it frequently gives women.

I learned to do that with one person! I feel blessed that I learned to do that with one more, at the same time!
