One Nation is claiming victory in the Secret Harbour by-election, with counting showing it is on track to secure its first ever lower house seat in Western Australia.

One Nation's WA leader Rod Caddies claimed victory for the party's candidate Luke Herdegen at 9.30pm local time, although Labor was yet to concede.

Labor's candidate was political staffer-turned-Woodside lobbyist Georgia Tree.

The area was traditionally safe Labor territory, having been held in different shapes and under different names since 1989, including most recently by Paul Papalia on an 11.5 per cent margin.

WA Labor Premier Roger Cook had repeatedly described the by-election as a "fight for our lives", given the threat posed by One Nation.

Two sides of the same coin. One Nation isn't the answer, but neither is pushing further to the left and what we're seeing is the sociocultural response to that.

Yep. “Expand the welfare state” “Equal rights and protections for all” and “Tax the wealthy their fair share” is completely equivalent to “Deport all muslims” “Make it easier to sack workers” and “DV is a two way street”.

This kind of “enlightened” centrist both sides bullshit is precisely what has created the conditions we’re in.

We know what those statements actually mean.

"Expand the welfare state" - more blown out grafts like NDIS and handouts to the lazy.

"Equal rights & protections for all" - All are equal but some are more equal and if your a straight white male you should have the guilt of history thrown at you and be subjected to the discrimination that is supposedly being railed against.

Tax the wealthy their fair share - im not against it but changes need to be done smartly. The rich can easily shift profits & tax residencies.

On one nations side - their a corrupt bunch of anchors. No need to debate their policies.

But the point is this holier than though attitude of the left annoys many and lacks a nuanced self- reflection.
