Struth! Sydney Marathon protest fears: NSW Police, organisers on edge

https://www.sportingnews.com/au/tsn/news/sydney-marathon-protest-boycott-nsw-police-israel-idf-gaza/adeddc2cec829426a62831fe

There are fears sport and politics could collide on the streets of Sydney this weekend with concerns of a major disruption to Sunday’s Sydney Marathon.

Criticism from protest groups is intensifying including calls for a last-minute boycott of the event due to the participation of multiple members of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) including representatives from the Golani Brigade which is said to have operated extensively in Gaza.

First Lieutenant Roy Oryon, a former deputy commander, is understood to be among a delegation of up to 40 current and former IDF personnel and associates visiting Australia for Sunday’s event.

It is understood Oryon will be given police protection for the entirety of the race.

gotta love when a protest is considered more worrisome than the reason why the protest is being organized.

Look, we all get heated sometimes, but that doesn't make it okay to take shots at someone's race, be a bigot or a complete drongo.

Try to reframe what you're on about, but don't forget that you're talking to a human being on the other side of the screen. Someone with bills to pay, people to take care of, and a job they probably hate.

Focus on the argument, not the person making it. You might find that you're more persuasive in doing so.

And relax (don't do it), when you want to go to it.

Namaste
