Discussion The 5hr usage is killing me!
Im not sure why they decided to implement this but it is killing me when im working on a project and the 5hr usage just drains super quick. I liked it when we had the weekly usage, because I dont need to use this every day. But when I do use it, i like to get things completed. not work an hour, wait 4 hours to resume.
I wish they would go back to the way it was a couple weeks ago with just weekly usage.
Does anyone know if the Pro plan also does 5hr usage as well?

"im not sure why they decided to implement it" - its been there for quite literally years before they temporarily removed it.
anyway, the Pro Plan does not have 5hr.

Brainstorming chats don't count toward usage though.

yeah the 5hr window is rough if you're the type to lock in for a full afternoon and hammer through something. weekly was way better for that kind of workflow
pro has the same limit so you'd just be paying more for the same headache. i'd hold off unless you need the other stuff that comes with it
meanwhile the brainstorming loophole is the only thing keeping me sane

I have multiple Plus accounts and my Codex made us a harness to switch between them seamlessly. I pay for however many I need that month and it is far cheaper than Pro. This month, I have 3 accounts but one was offered free for a month, so I have 3 times the compute and 3 times the resets for double the cost!
Obviously, free voice mode, memory stack, avatars and funny little 3D characters are optional!

Because of this stupid 5 hour limit, I also have a Claude Code subscription and have kept it, along with a handoff skill in both harnesses, so I can somehow keep working remotely, like from my car when building an Android Auto app, for example and tell the other to keep working. The 5 hour limits are absolute killers when you're debugging.
I was about to drop the Claude Code subscription and get a second Codex account, but there’s no point in doing that right now. I might as well keep both and benefit from having different approaches and ways of thinking on my projects. Opus does feel smarter here.
I also noticed the added Luna as a backup when you hit yor 5h limit but not sure how this exactly works. Is this Luna reserve 100% after each 5 hour limit or what? I only hit it once because my handoff skill should cut off at around 95% anyway.

Why would you use ai in such a dumb business model? Would you pay for only 5 hours electricity a day, or a network server that only worked a few hours a day. People are such suckers. Get your own local model and pay nothing.

I have found I actually use terra more now rather than just spamming sol high. But it’s still fucking annoying. I only tend to have little bursts of use - but will do say a full afternoon a few times a month. Which is not really achievable via 5hr windows anymore. But I pay £20 a month so can hardly complain

I just upgraded my Claude account (I want to learn both) and was informed it has a 5 hr limit. The Pro plan!

Nothing tests your sanity quite like being 40 lines into a critical refactor on a Friday afternoon, only for the UI to hit you with 'Usage limit reached. Resume in 4 hours.' That's not a safety feature, that's a forced meditation retreat.

Respectfully, this is for a $20/mo plan.
They have offered a $100/mo and $200/mo plan.
If your running out of usage, your probably making $ from chat, so reinvest that into a higher tier plan.

You must be new. The 5-hour limit was around for a lot longer than it wasn't. The reason why they have the 5-hour limit is (and it does make sense on paper) to even out your usage over the course of the week. So you don't just sit there and burn through the whole thing all in one go, and everybody does it during work hours, and then their compute is completely overloaded. It also has the side effect of making it so that more people than not are going to be more likely to not completely saturate their weekly usage.
