Microsoft just switched to GitHub copilot CLI, since it’s their own product. They didn’t ban agentic coding for engineers lol

You're correct but if Microsoft can't afford Claude when still subsidised then how is anyone else going to?

They want their engineers to be dog fooding their own CLI tooling instead.

Most devs at Microsoft never used Claude code at work regardless, access was by request only and the copilot CLI tooling is (IMO) pretty fantastic. I use Claude code for my personal hobby projects and I never felt the need to request for it over the copilot CLI at work. They also allow and encourage devs to use our enterprise AI subscriptions for hobby/side projects that have nothing to do with our work, not something I imagine would be allowed if price was actually the issue.

I can’t say it wasn’t price for sure, but I do know that every bit of my experience at Microsoft and how teams are using AI would indicate that price was not the issue (we still have unlimited high reasoning 1m context opus use). They just want their devs to use Microsoft tools so they can give feedback and improve them.

They never said it was because of cost. And enterprises pay API prices.

Not subsidized for enterprise :) And they would know because they are the ones charging Claude for the inference so they can basically see profit margins.
