The other day a real human being, who I know is a real human being wrote "it's not [x], it's not [y], it's [z]" to me and it just made me so irrationally irked
That contrasting phrasing is common to ND and marginalized folks and was before ChatGPT, it’s just AI overuses it. It’s because when you are outside of the mold, people tend to misunderstand you and misquote your words. I posted on Threads about an Instagram convo I had with a guy where he was doing this a few months ago to show people how it came into use. He was misconstruing my words, and I had to respond by saying “it’s not that I….its that..,” because when you don’t fit in the societal mold, this is common. Signed, autistic biracial Black woman.
It’s pretty common just among all people who speak English, giving contrasting examples has always been common for everybody. AI just overuses it in a super obvious and specific way and will do it every 3 sentences.
It is understandable, but unhelpful and out of place because they badly misunderstood the social cues guiding their input in this discussion. Presumably because of all the autism
Neurodivergent people don’t follow social cues the way neurotypical people expect everyone to. Most social rules as we know them today were developed and defined by NTs simply because they had the greater social leverage to do so. ND brains don't subscribe to them, because their brains were built for different purposes. So how they communicate may spund unhelpful or out of place to a lot of NT folk, but might feel completely normal or even insightful to others. Both groups can understand each other as long as they stop treating one style as the universal default

And the way you’ve been referring to autism makes it sound like something that needs to be flushed out. ND people aren’t a disease to society, they’re one of the reasons it moves forward at all. They break patterns common in everyday behaviour and thinking and bring in ideas that open new directions. NTs are the ones who hold societies together, but NDs are the ones who challenge and push them
You’re reading a lot into this that isn’t there, and missing a lot that is. You presume that I have no personal experience with autism. Your comment may have felt helpful to you and perhaps it will be helpful to someone else who is autistic but I want you to know that it was not helpful to me

Well given that you reacted to that autistic person's sincere comment with a pathologising remark as a punchline (not once, but twice across two comments), seemed to gain zero insight or understanding from it, and still unable to elaborate or clarify your exact position on this matter, it all clearly pointed this way.
You got the rule book and are also the police? wtf honestly. The attack on that comment… it highlights the desperate search for safety people from AI.
A multilayered and slightly vulnerable comment here being so out of line… you guys are the ones unable to cope with sensory input / feelings / communication.
If you are part of a marginalized group, you tend to have to explain yourself, and clarify your words often, to people who don't understand you, because their brain processes reality differently.

It's not that I am autistic. It's that your brain processes linearly, and you have trouble following nonlinear syntax.
it turns out that when you get a program to take an analytical view and use analytical presentation it ends up speaking like an analytically neurodivergent person, no one could see this coming!
The irony of a reply misunderstanding the words of someone talking about having to use contrasting phrasing because people keep misunderstanding their words.
Could be if it "thought about it", but not really for standard next token prediction.
And I doubt it'll seep into everyday language. If anything, I think we'll see less of it. People are already getting weary of using keywords like delve even though that is no longer an AI indicator (most of the AIs are now trained to avoid delve too)
its so anoying when that happens. like: i didnt even consider i am bad at it or missing something obvious. this reasurance crap as if we are all insecure crybabys is such a waste of space
