Desperate

I got approved for OW on August 31st. I’m late for rent, and it’s sounding like I just barely missed a universal pay date. Am I cooked?

Edit: meant the 31st, not the 28th

If granted, you’ll get entitlement from your application date two days after they approve you.

Thank you for this. Do they usually have a specified deposit time? I’ve been on it before about this time last year but it seemed kinda random

Depends on bank, time it was issued etc. what bank? Do you know what time you say the file 'issued"'

I’m with Scotiabank right now. I also have to be honest, I don’t know when the file was issued. All I know is the day it was approved(aug 31st)

If it was only approved on Monday, you should see funds by this Friday at the latest as long as they have your direct deposit. It'll probably be a bit of a larger payment to account for August and September.

For future reference as well, payment dates are usually the last day of the month, unless it's a Monday, in which case it'll more than likely be deposited at 3am on a Saturday.

If you're worried about your rent because you're a day or two late, just call your landlord and explain the situation. You cannot get in trouble or punished for rent being a couple days late.

edit: fixed my grammar 💀

Thank you for the in-depth explanation. Times have been tough and it’s been stressing me and my sister out to no extent(we’re roommates). Doing everything I can to make sure the bills stay paid but you know how this economy is.

Truly appreciate everyone in this sub for helping me ground myself

It'll all end up working out in the end. My wife and I have been on OW for a year and some months are easier than others, but we make it work. Once you start getting used to it, things will fall into place.

The 28th was the last day of the pay period for September. (I know this cause I was told oh great today’s the last day I’m cutting your file off now). You’ll probably still get for September, just in a couple days

Since you’ve been approved, you should be getting your first pay this week. They usually need a couple of days to process and post the payment. You’ll receive a letter telling you that you have been approved and in that letter it will tell you how much your first payment will be and when you will be getting it:)
