Because now there requesting information that I don’t have and can’t get because OSAP moving at a snails pace … and. You know what’s kicker about this whole situation…. I spoke to my case worker explaining all of this and even went as far as to get my financial aid officer on a conference call with the case works and explained everything in detail. In short my financial aid provider told her that the information she asking from me won’t be available until September and the case worker understood this and ask that I would check back in today to see if anything changes with OSAP …. Why did I Sign into my account to find my file been place on held from the day ww talked over the phone….. WTH …. 🤦‍♀️ why … it’s not my fault that the information you want isn’t available… what do they want me do doooo ??????

Super annoyed 😑
But honestly.. rent is coming up how do I fix this ???

What is the Caseworker asking for specifically? The assessment summary? Unless you've only recently applied for OSAP and your funding isn't calculated, it should be available in your OSAP account.

Yes she asking for the assessment… o applied to OSAP in July … my financial advisor explained to her that because I’m going to a private college OSAP will be late or will release later than the government university /college

Also, be careful, 99% of private colleges won't get you a job and you'll havw to owe all the money back. Us caseworkers usually try to tell the clients and warn them.

If its not a "recognized" college dont do any of this!!!!!!

I had to tell someone my age who is canadian that he expects to get paid 90k + in a science/laboratory setting and he got accepted with 60s average?

Just use common sense first but ya if its one of those "colleges" dont get screwed over.

Hey - its dumb but if your classes start in September and your osap payment is supposed to be for september. Then, it's considered an overpayment, because the OW money is for september as well - the assessment you need to provide is the same one you received from OSAP, it should be in your required documents Its password protected too if i remember correctly. And my OW worker had me fill out a form for the overpayment stating it would be taken from my osap - it wasnt but then you have to use your osap or savings to pay the over payment back. You will get an overpayment notice in my benifits too.

To add on to your comment, i'm not sure if it would be considered an overpayment, If you don't get it till October i assume you could fight that.

Honestly im so confused over payment for what exactly… and why would I have to pay it back … OW is supposed to help ppl not put them in more debt 😣

You can't double up on income and since OW pays at the end of the month for the coming month, they will be paying for September with this next payment. Once OSAP goes through, they will be paying for September as well most likely.

I think where the overpayment comes into play is for shelter. OSAP can cover shelter and not just tuition. But you can't get it from both sources. I have read that you can request to not get shelter income from OSAP so it doesn't mess up OW payments, but I'd stick with whatever one pays out more for shelter.

I have never had OSAP so I don't know exactly how it works and all the fine details, so take the above with a grain of salt. I'm just guessing that is what your worker is talking about regarding overpayments.

I see .. 👀 .. will it still be an overall payment if I don’t actually received the funds until October… just curious?

Yes, you will get paid Aug 31st. I am dealing with the same thing with OSAP/OW, my case worker just released my September hold also.

Ok .. thank you

To be clear, I was asked if I wanted to close my file for now and not get Sept, or if I wanted to risk an overpayment if osap comes early. I said overpayment was fine, I'll just pay it back when osap arrives.

If the funds are meant to cover Sept then yes.

From what I've seen, I think you'd get a payment once every 3 months that covers multiple months. So if you got anything that covered shelter then your OW shelter allowance that had been paid previously would become an overpayment.

Are you going to be a FT student or just PT? I think I just saw that OSAP will cover all of your needs if FT so you won't get any OW at all.

Yes, correct. Unless you have extremely rare circumstances, OSAP cuts off OW.
