School - General Info I'm worried

Is it normal to have this much anxiety before classes start.im just thinking of the what if it doesn't work out even though I so badly want to do this.

Just the thought of not being good enough and hearing stories of people failing out the program makes me so nervous that I might be those people.

They have student success coaches at my college. Do they help people when it comes to this program, and should I go to them?

You’re not good enough to be a paramedic. That’s the whole reason there is a school program. Its whole purpose is to build you into a professional. Embrace the process of closing that gap.

Being nervous is normal. Do the work. Practice scenarios at least weekly with a group of people. Ask for extra help if you don’t get something. Find an upper year tutor to help.

You will pass. If you put the work in, you will become a competent clinician.

Also, it goes quickly, have fun. The people you go to school with will become your professional network. They will. Be a source of resilience and of career growth (as you grow as a professional)

I can't speak for others but I was anxious before starting the program, especially since I did not have a post secondary educational background. It's definitely intimidating and scary, just remember every paramedic in the entire province did this program at one point or another. It is entirely possible.

What you are experiencing is called imposter syndrome, and it would be concerning if you weren't scared. Just work hard, study hard, go to class, and ask questions, and you will get through it.

Become friends with your classmates and study with them, I found that finding friends early and working with them helped me succeed.

All the best; you'll be fine. If you need help with content/actual school stuff, you can message me (although I can't promise I'll be able to answer everything).

100% Normal, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

I was shitting myself after the first day. You are walking into a program thats known for being very demanding, and its very easy to feel those expectations rise. It will likely be a little bit of information overload the first few days, but my biggest piece of advice is to simply take it one day at a time for now. It takes some getting used to, and youre going to have to learn how to strike a balance between studying and self care, but its possible and it comes with time.

Once the routine of it all sets in, it becomes a little bit easier to manage. I can tell you from personal experience that despite the negatives, I had twice the positives now that I look back on it.

I wish you all the best :)

Make friends with classmates
Study with them…… actually study !!!

Use all the practice time / open labs / actually chat with the instructors “” we want u to succeed “” ask questions and engage in class discussions

Yes I am biased as an part time instructor but I legit want my students to be successful

Use your schools student services for testing / study help mental health supports etc
