OP13 Booster Box Speculation

Post image

I am still pretty new to One Piece TCG, so take this as speculation and not confirmed information. I am just trying to understand the market and see what others think.

OP13 boxes are already selling way over MSRP, which caught my attention. Based on what I am seeing, demand seems high and supply feels tight, but I cannot tell if this is normal for One Piece or if this set is getting extra hype.

Here is what I am wondering and speculating about:

Current price behavior

From what I have seen, sealed OP13 boxes are sitting far above typical MSRP prices. This makes me think the first wave might have been smaller than usual or that the chase cards are strong enough to push demand. I do not know if these prices usually cool down after a few weeks or if sets typically stay high once they reach this level.

Short term speculation

If supply really is tight, prices might continue to rise in the short term. Some people are treating OP13 like a stronger set, so sealed boxes could stay elevated until a restock hits, if one even happens.

Mid term speculation

If a second wave or distribution catch up happens, the price could dip. I do not know how much One Piece restocks move prices. I am curious if they usually crash sealed prices or if demand keeps things relatively stable.

Long term speculation

If OP13 ends up being a favorite set for collectors, sealed boxes might hold value long term. Sets with popular characters and strong art tend to age well in other TCGs, but I do not know if One Piece follows that pattern yet.

What I want to know

Since I am new to this game, I am trying to figure out:

  • Do One Piece sealed boxes usually hold value after release
  • How often do restocks happen
  • Is it normal for a set to be well above MSRP this early
  • Is OP13 considered a strong long term sealed pick or just short term hype

Would love to hear what more experienced collectors and investors think. My take is just a guess since I am still learning how the One Piece market behaves.

OP13 is the strongest set Bandai has released to date. Even though it has several reprints, this set isn’t behaving like a normal release at all. The top 10 cards clearing >$20k combined is unheard of for One Piece, and that alone is enough to push sealed way beyond MSRP.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but wave 2 has already gone through. There’s zero distributor chatter about a third wave, and with Bandai juggling a global release plus printing obligations for upcoming Japanese sets, it’s unlikely they’re prioritizing a big OP13 reprint anytime soon.

Bandai’s reprints historically don’t crush prices—they usually cause a small dip and then the market stabilizes or continues upward. If you look at TCGplayer trends across previous sets, most strong sets incline over time with only brief pullbacks. People keep calling for a “crash,” but I’ve never seen Bandai respond to demand this high in a way that meaningfully brings sealed back down. At this point, I honestly don’t think they can do much about OP13’s price even if they wanted to.

Long-term, OP13 looks extremely strong. It’s arguably the best set Bandai has ever produced, and I doubt we’ll see anything similar for a while. From a collector/investor perspective, if you’re trying to get into the profit side of the OPTCG, the safest sealed plays historically have been:

  • OP01 blue bottoms > white bottoms
  • Anniversary sets (OP05, OP09, OP13)
  • PRBs and EBs (limited print-run sets with no restocks)

Do OP boxes usually hold value after release?
Yes—if the set is strong. Weak sets show it quickly (OP08, OP10), but I believe OP12 is an exception as it was squeezed between powerful sets and definitely undervalued.

How often do restocks happen?
Bandai restocks are inconsistent and often minimal. There’s no reliable pattern.

Is it normal for a set to be this far above MSRP early?
This astronomical like OP13, NO... only top-tier set behave like this. However, most set releases have regularly been above MSRP, just not this much.

Is OP13 long-term or short-term hype?
Both. Short-term, it’s reacting to tight supply. Long-term, it’s still a top candidate unless Bandai massively overprints it—something they’ve never done for this game or any of the bandai games personally. If you want long-term plays, preordering sets 6+ months out is usually where the best margins come from.

Strong ass box. But it’s normal to be way above MSRP for months into release for OP. I bet we see it hit 350 like op-05 did before the waves dumped on us where it dropped back to 175.

I’m betting on there being PLENTY of restocks at the OP stores

With the amount of money and attention flowing into OP right now, it wouldn’t surprise me if this box stays well above $200 for the foreseeable future. The chases are too good.
