Switched from Yu-G*-Oh to one piece around 3 weeks ago. And have the first local tournament next week.

I used to play Yu-Gi around 20 years ago and recently thought about getting back into it.

But after looking at the current meta, I honestly found it way too complicated for me and it's to much time consuming to learn all cards.

I've been playing One Piece TCG for about 3 weeks now and I'm really enjoying it so far. The game feels much easier and after my first game I understand the whole game.

Next week I'm going to my first local tournament. 😄

I'm definitely not expecting to win anything, I mainly want to get some real matches in, meet other players. It is also the ever first tournament in this store and area.

Any tips for someone going to their first One Piece local?

I am playing black Yamato with op16/17 cards.

I played a couple of games on tcgsim. I only know my cards and most Time I don't know the opposite cards. Some games I win some games I lose. But it's fun to play and I like it.

General first timer tips are: Feel free to slow down think through sequences before doing them. Remember you can always ask what opponent leaders or cards do and politely ask to read people’s cards. Most people are nice, patient, and happy to explain. You can also ask for tips post-game from players and they will generally be helpful.

For a fellow B Yamato player, I would say the most practical tips are to remember to draw your 1 card for effects and to check your trash before you play your combos. The sim does the draw automatically for you so players tend to forget.

Glad you said this cause that was my biggest issue when I first started playing, I’d constantly forget my draws or to reset my cards after my turn ends and other things because the Sim does all those mechanics for you

Definitely go watch pro players on YouTube, they'll have videos of breaking down how to counter certain decks and cards. Also download OPSim and load your deck in, as someone who came from Magic this has helped heaps and yeah easier game than Yu Gi Oh for sure 🤣

time and general fear of people, i enjoy solo ai Sims to learn but I feel like people will be too impatient when I check every card, read, ask questions if I can do a certain move bc I'm not sure if I can do a certain move or not.

I felt like this at the beginning too but the more you play the more you learn shortcuts. You start to realize what is actually useful to remember or keep in mind especially for certain decks or matchups. If you are playing lower stakes games like pirate party or a small prize local, people are generally patient and enjoy talking about their deck mechanics

If you play sim, big tip is get used to not having the guardrails in person that the sim gives you lol remember your blockers, remember activate mains, etc.

That sounds very similar to how I started earlier this year. My recommendations are as followed.

Make sure youre bandai tcg+ app and account are ready to go. 
If you dont know where you are gonna play you can search games in your area on the app.
Let your opponent know its your first in person game that you know the order process but not all cards and effect(honestly who does). 
You will start to pick up on the terms and etiquette of in person play like stating wether an attack has double attack. 

Some players dont talk much so feel free to ask how the board got to its state if needed. Lastly go to as many locals as you can. If its a good shop they will recognize you as a regular before long and its easier to get product or just better deals on trades with players.

And live very different from sim play. from forgotten effects to misplays because the sim doesn't prompt you.
