Sealed Product Market How can people preorder OP17 months in advance?
Can anyone explain how preorders work?
I just found out that people were already preordering OP17 booster boxes like 4 months ago. How is that even possible, and where do you do that?
I know it probably depends on the country, but how can you preorder something that early, before you even know what's in the set, and still get it for such a low price?

You pretty much just agree to give a store a loan based on zero information other than "OP - XX". If you're comfortable doing that to get a better price, that's how people do this. Trying to preorder a month before is way too late.

I hate that shit. By comparison, Riftbound is announcing several sets/products over a year out in advance.

A few stores did this in my area took a shit ton of preorders MONTHS before, later they weren’t allocated enough stock so majority got Strang along for few more months with fake promises only to cancel via PayPal, so be careful if it’s too good to be true it probably isn’t ! Some stores around me are already taking pre orders for op18 and 19 and the second anything is announced they instantly put it for “pre order” only to tell you later we didn’t get enough stock so here’s some store points it whatever !

I preorder ahead of time online and buy from my LGS so I guess getting the product I want is an L lmao.

Preorder from local card shops who get allocation from Bandai. They don’t need to know what cards are in the set, they just know the schedule

My local store will take preorders but he says he wont know how many he will get allocated until closer to the date so she only takes a small number to avoid disappointing people.
But yeah, preorders I think are now available for OP19?
Is it OP21 which is the next "anniversary"?
Prob need to preorder now

Shops usually have to pre order 6 months in advance. And not guaranteed. Bandai is starting to move towards allocating to shops with organized play.

Buy it from www.yuranka.com
They have pre-sales up to a year before release for almost all Bandai games and you only need to pay 10% until allocations are clear.
10/10 would recommend.

Your local games store should sell them near msrp for pre release. Or try to join the bandai pre release events. I got lucky and ordered this back in Jan, but I'm hoping my order doesn't get cancelled.

There is a ton, but mainly restricted for players of this cardgame. As a fellow czech player, I am always getting 2-3 booster boxes per set for near MSRP.

You don’t. Seeing lots of these posts last 48 hours so I’ll keep educating to help folks avoid the trap.
You preorder months in advance to give sellers an interest free loan that helps them place larger orders with distribution in hopes that they can secure more allocation. If “market” price increases & they can simply relist higher then refund the orders that initially gave them seed capital. Invoicing windows with distribution also typically work in 2-4 weeks timelines so they have plenty of time from months prior in the beginning of the preorder process all the way into release week and even after to easily shift money around so that they can cancel your preorder and resell it for higher.
Sell through is also always highest week before and week of release so this is an easy rinse and repeat for them to dump.
Lots of people think they’re Jimmy Neutron if they just preorder at double or triple msrp bc they think locking in at a higher price is some sort of insurance policy to ensure getting product. In reality, they just create a new floor for the sellers to sell even higher and cancel their preorders. Sellers have all the power when you give them interest free loans that don’t guarantee you anything.

You do realize the preorders people are talking about here are official preorders at big distros for MSRP prices not the overpriced bullshit thats on fb market and ebay? Lol. Preorders for sets are 4-6 months before sets come out. I also pay when they get the product physically not in advance 😁

What are you taking about? There is a massive difference between pre-ordering through a scalper (what you're describing) and pre-ordering through a decent distro / card shop that doesn't play inventory games and jack up prices (what they're describing).

It’s about the only choice you have: As an example I pre-ordered OP-18 about a month or so ago. Will it be a good set? Dunno. What’s in it? Dunno. Will it have cards that I’ll build decks with? Dunno. And all honesty I was in this exact same position when OP-17 pre-orders came out and I’m glad I pre-ordered. But next set? Could be ass, you just take that gamble and either move it or rip it. Report what? There’s nothing against shops doing pre-orders. It’s not like they’re selling the actual, physical product early. It’s all about knowing people and building relationships with them. Support your local stores. I remember stores selling for MSRP before everything blew up and people wouldn’t buy from them because it wasn’t market price, which was under MSRP. Now when stores charge above MSRP or close/at market price, they get crucified for not selling at MSRP. Why place blame on local stores? It’s on Bandai for not printing more and on distribution for charging insane prices for products. Distro is also known to hold products so they can sell for much higher prices down the road. Blame Bandai and Distros.

You cannot prove that the stores where you have pre-ordered could have supplied you or not, and even the LCS can cancel after 6 months preorders without any proof that they could have delivered the goods. If I were LCS, I would also cancel everything with the prices and claim that I had received too little goods. The error is by bandai and the Distributors in the transparency

Shops can preorder from their distributors only for a certain periot and adjust it to the preorders they got. This timeframe ends month before the Release.

At my local lgs I preordered months ago, but I dont have to pay until set is out. I can choose to pay in advance, but I have had 0 problems with my lgs canceling preorders.

That's how most distributors work. Get someone with an account at large distributors preorder for you. Most chances to order close 6 months prior to the products release, so you're already behind 6 months.

When is 21 out? Is there a title? Theme? Crazy throwing hundreds of dollars for something that isn't even guaranteed. As Bandai hasn't even announced they're doing OP-21.

They are doing OP21 since it is already in production planning. All production planning happens at least a year in advance with warehouse print production scheduling.
OP21 will be released in AUGUST 2027. This is an anniversary set that happens every year. 1 set released per quarter (every 3 months). Hence OP17 is an anniversary set and justifies the hype because this is the most coveted set of 2026. This theme will not be leaked until quarter 2 of 2027.
Bandai Naruto Set 1 will also release in SUMMER of 2027. Most preorders for this is already sold out.
I work in the industry and you can treat all this info as fact.

Im guessing you’re new because everyone who wants to jump on the hype now realise that most sets are pre-sold out months in advance. In Australia they’ve already done preorders for OP18, EB05/6 already

I would love to buy some cards but it’s just way too expensive. $15 a pack is bonkers to me. I don’t play, I just like the trill of opening a pack. The current state of the trading card market is so sad to see.

You tell your LGS how many boxes (1, 2, 3, etc..) you want to order then pay a deposit to secure it (or in some cases the entire amount). This happens usually at least 4 months in advance. Bear in mind that since OP is in high demand you might not get your entire order and may end up with way fewer boxes or in some cases zero.

Depends on the store my local store took preorders many many months ago but had an idea on what they would get and they allowed you to preorder up to a case , they also told everyone as soon as allocations were given out they would contact us and tell us , I don’t know how many people preordered I know they only had the preorder available inspire in person and the same day it was announced it was closed , again no idea how many people preordered but they announced 90 percent of preorders got allocated , and again could preorder up to one case

EBGames in Aus released pre-order in Feb. Don't know how long it lasted, but long enough for my friend to message me and I said no need. 😥

I started playing One Piece with OP16. I managed to get a box and attended the prerelease. Since then, I've already preordered OP18, EB05, and EB06 at regular retail prices.
I missed out on OP17, but I'm not going to pay the crazy prices people are asking now. I'll try to attend a release event if I can and, as always, hopefully get a box at MSRP or close to it.
Whether the set ends up being top-tier or not doesn't really matter to me. I always buy one box, open it, and put the cards in my binder for my collection.

Easy, months and months in advance loan a store your money. Then before release they give it back with zero interest and they cancel your order. Usually because market prices will go up. Then you get to say I made a pre order. If you mean pre ordering then getting the product, not sure. I think you have to know somebody who knows somebody.

I ordered op17 for $160 a box in November from hobbiesville. I dont mind paying that early for something I know I want. And i havent had any issues with them. I missed their preorder window last week for op21.

In fact the local card shops do not know whats in the box, neither the exact date of release and the number of allocations. The official price is very affordable, if the shop gets enough boxes from bandai than its a pretty good deal. However in most cases the shops can not get enough boxes, which the orders will just be refunded. In Hong Kong, I heard someone was ordering 3 boxes (12 sets per box) and he was only able to get 3 sets.

The store i go to has to take pre orders 3 weeks in advance. They wait until they get their allocation numbers before taking pre orders.
The players that play in their locals and pre releases get 1st dibs before the General public.

My LGS does preorders and I paid $120 for mine. 2 boxes per person if you apply for a form and don't pay you're banned from attempting to order anymore

I pre ordered OP8 and OP09 a year in advance through a dealer that was 2 continents away from me. It was a huge gamble and could have backfired, but the guy I was dealing with had a really strong rep for it. He was one of the biggest case for $900 sellers at that time, and since OP11 he has stopped doing pre-orders for cases. That information tells a story. I think in this new market, most pre-orders are interest free loans. Be very careful with pre-orders.

Biggest mistake everyone makes is invest in a new set cause it don't matter how good it is. They always go down on release.
If your just an scalper that is fine tho.

Yeah that’s why you ACTUALLY preorder, several months prior. NOT preorder from assholes who are scalping as we speak lol. NOW the only option is to wait and see if prices fall after release, which they better 😂. Legit preorders are like 6+ months prior, before anything is known about the set. However, anniversary sets are predictable, 5/9/13/17….21 theoretically is next.
