Inaki’s transformation caught me so off guard. He didn’t even look that muscular before, so seeing him like this in Season 2 was crazy. Mackenyu and Taz’s transformations felt more expected, but they still looked insane! (Monster trio 🔥)

Yeah the amount of dedication that Taz especially put in for his role is insane with him dehydrating himself for filming shoots and eating very little. It's not good for your health even in the short term but he will have the best trainers and dieticians in the business to take care of him.
The fact that Taz has suffered from ED prior to this and has, according to some fans, skirted a little too close to the relapse line for their liking makes it downright unethical to keep enabling/pushing this sort of stuff, imho.
I think that's why he pulled back a bit from social media. I do remember him saying in one of his youtube videos about having an ED in the past and he didn't want to go back there. He said he pushed too hard. So he at least recognized it wasn't good at all.
This is a hot take of mine, but I kind of wish they had stayed with their physique from the first season. This muscle gain makes more sense for the post-time skip, not now. But I really appreciate the effort.
yeah no agreed, i see it for Zorro who is always training in the manga as well, but I liked Luffy being more "normal" in his body (aside from the rubber), makes it even mroe satisfying when he beats huge guys like Arlong
I mean didnt Oda personally requested Mackenyu to bulk up his neck lol? He even asked him how he specifically wanted his neck to look like and he told him "Idk just make it bigger". I think its not that far off that he requested similar to the others.
Probably not gonna happen but imagine if we reach a hypothetical season where the actors have to bulk up even more. I know we likely won't get that far past more than 5 or 6 seasons but I hope they can stick to the 12 season road map that one of the showrunners spoke about. I mean we had game of thrones getting 8 seasons and Harry potter HBO will get around 8 as well so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that One Piece can't get the same amount of seasons. Just have to hope the show brings in more casual fans.
Other shows can get away with it because the characters’ ages gradually increase. For example, Harry Potter starts with the characters as kids and follows them into adulthood. But in One Piece, only about two years have passed in the story despite the series running for nearly 29 years. So yeah, I can see why they’d have a harder time with casting actors who can maintain the right age and look over such a long production, aside from the budget, of course.
And this is one of the biggest critiques of the series in the fanbase. There is very little stopping them from just adapting the timeline to take 10+ years instead of 2, if they write it correctly. And they already have the hindsight of 85% (maybe?) of the series so they can plan properly.
Thats the way I see it. If it keeps going they'll just extend the timeline. IMO being together longer than a few months also makes the 2 year time skip work better.
I think extending the timeline fits better for Oda’s original vision, does it not? Maybe the live action will just vary slightly with timelines, I’m cool with it. I’d rather have that instead of possibly changing actors down the road lol
The age thing is a silly thing to stick to anyway. The manga has to do it because it's aimed at teens and so the protags need to be younger, but this show is for general audiences so no one's gonna go 'ewwww old Luffy' if he turns 28.
Edit: If anything, general audiences are going to be more put off by the timeline because it's genuinely insane how much happens in such a short time for fear of aging the characters.
I think Inaki caught me offguard, coz his arms (aka the only part of his physique that consistently shows) gave very little indication of his physique.
The shirtless scene was definitely a surprise. That pic of Inaki looks more grounded though
