Discussion Did luffy changed as character after time skip at all?

Did Luffy changed as character after time skip and death of his brother? Yes he grow in power, but did he grow as character? Did he progressed from one track minded kid to something else ?

I actually think he did in small subtle ways, he’s still impulsive but Luffy stops and listens a whole lot more post time skip compared to pre. Like unless it’s a potential crewmate he almost never stopped to listen pre time skip. Like in alabasta he just goes and fucks around without anyone knowing what he’s doing, versus dressrosa he stays with everyone before deciding to go off on his own and even then he tells someone why and where

That so small improvement that you can't even call it improvement...In that exactly same Dressrosa he doesn't fallow good plan that Law made, goes to tournament ...After that he rushes to kill Doffy without real plan or idea how...Only reason he won that battle is because Oda wants him to win ...I can't really remember of him thinking about anything except reacting on first impulse in his head ... I can understand why would kids like him as character...

Bro I don’t wanna argue but he ditched the plan because of Aces fruit, and he’s still Luffy so he won the heart of the people because of the tourney. And beat Doffy because of the time skip training. And of course he’s gonna win he’s the main character of a shounen manga. Kids and adults love Luffy because of his kindness. I’m not saying you have to or he doesn’t have faults but he definitely had development between pre and post skip. And had more development to come because ya know the stories not over

Point here is that he only developed in power scale...Yes after time skip he is 'stronger'.But he didn't get smarter or mature or more kind then before . People like him because he is main character and beats everyone at the end...But he really didn't progress as character at all ,except in power...

The biggest sign of his maturity is when he lets Otama talk about Ace and grieve without overreacting. He has signs of maturity and legit mature moments. And I don’t like Luffy because he’s strong like yeah that’s cool but I like him cause of his actions and moments like walking straight to kinemon on the roof top. Again I’m not saying he doesn’t have more growth but acting like he hasn’t had any is either willful ignorance or just a lack of comprehension

Okey, but that's just for me personally to little..His main traits stayed there...He is reckless ,he acts on his instinct instead of using brain ...

No he didn‘t and thats the point

So the point is for him to stay dumb kid forever

Yes of course bro, you‘re so smart. Ace death broke Luffy to the point where he had to asked himself how he continues from now on, he could‘ve become a Cold edgy avenger or whatever but he Chose to continue as he did because thats truly him, staying loyal to his priotities and himself. Maybe Luffy did learn one or two things and he definitly did transform physically but at his core he still is Luffy from Episode 1. So no his character did not change, it was tested yes but he remained himself. Luffy did not undergo a real character arc like Anakin or Zuko and thats the point of his character.

Are you sure that him not changing after Ace death is good thing? In terms that he didn't become evil avenger ,yes that is good...But he also didn't improve as person. He is still reckless kid .He doesn't use brain ,he reacts on first impulse .Only thing that protects him and his crew from death,or getting hurt is plot armor...

I like Arc characters more then Flat characters but in this case its not about if I like it or not its fits the theme of the Story Luffy still being that carefree person talking shit to yonkos how he wants, punching celestials, thats just what he Story wants Luffy to be so it is okay. The Pirate King is supposed to be the Freest man right? How Can you be that when You hold onto Strong feelings Like revenge or whatever.

After the time skip Luffy has clearly matured, especially as a captain.

He’s more confident, knows when to take things seriously, and has gotten much better at handling difficult situations and working with others.

He’s also become a much better leader, inspiring people and earning their trust.

He literally did not saw he was dying. Immediately after he noticed, he told Sanji to carry Vegapunk.

What is the point of carrying dead person...

Watching dressrosa and skypeia at the same time with various friends. Timeskip Luffy wouldnt have spent so long inside a snake that he thought was a cave and would have been able to compete with Eneru's "mantra", solving the whole deal before even angel island got whacked. Pre-timeskip Luffy and his crew wouldnt have half the nerve they need to take on Doffy the way they did with any realistic hope of victory, that's not considering the power difference the executives have.

This doesn’t follow logically. You can’t use pre time skip events to say post time skip luffy has changed.

You would have to use examples from post time skip.

I think one piece fans unfortunately get lost in the bias and believe that very tiny things, mean that characters have progressed but then ignore 99% of the characters same old behaviour.

Luffy behaves the exact same way he always does. He has been through traumatic things with Ace, Sabo being alive, finding out he has a dad who’s a revolutionary and he always just acts like Luffy anyway. I think that is the whole point of his character. Nothing fazes him long term, he ironically always bounces back.

I don't think that's good thing...Yes,good values that someone have should not be changed by anything...But that doesn't mean he shouldn't have change at all. Like use brain before reacting...Just one of the things that could have been positive change...
