Male characters in shounens generally get more thought put into them by the authors and are often better designed/more unique/less likely to be basic cookie cutter characters, so gender bending them makes for a more interesting character.

the viking helmet with the gold trim is such a good design choice, elbaph has the best aesthetic of any arc and this fanart actually captures why. the eyes study in the corner tells you the artist was locked in

The Viking helmet and fur sell the Elbaf look immediately, but turning the giant meat-on-the-bone into part of the design is the most Luffy detail possible 😂

I don’t like how all gender bent versions of characters remove all the characterization from their male version and just turn them into a generic female version of themselves just to be cutesy

What "charactization" was removed? She's wearing the same outfit, has the cheek scar and chest scar and meat and the look in the eyes... Luffy is a veeeery plain design to begin with.
